 >> Only the blackest of heartsThat is a tough one, my dear, a tough one indeed - I suppose it depends on if you see a spirit and a soul as the same thing, and how you define each. A soul, by the wikipedia definition is essentially the same thing as a spirit - in which case, yes - I do believe in one. However, a soul - as in the essence of your personality and "what goes on to the afterlife" and whatever else isn't in that little mix - I do not believe in. I am fifty:fifty in the metaphysics:physics zone, I am scientific, but I believe in magick. I believe that your personality and all traits of your humanity are held within the brain, but I believe that there is something that makes you... well, you. Call it chakra, call it an aura - but I definitely believe there is SOMETHING there, I just can't say what.
As for if I "have one" or not - well, when people say "They have no soul" in the sense of goodness, hope, and all that jazz - nope, I got nothing. However, in the idea of a magical, life essence of sorts - well... yeah, I do. Can feel the purest of love <<

i agree for the most part with everything alex said above. there IS something that makes us all who we are and while it DOES carry on to your next lives, your personality is subject to change even though at your core you will be the same. for example, i can be a very nice person and seen as having a sweet personality. though im usually thinking something rude about someone or other no matter how sweet i seem. so in a past life, maybe i was as rude as my thoughts indicate. but im still me. just.... not... XD

I think there is an essense such as a soul, spirit, whatever. I don't trust Wikipedia at all. Anyone can edit that. x3
But, yeah, I do think there is something inside us that gives us personality. Not emotion, but personality. I've studied some psychology ( 1 and 2 in highschool and about to take psychology in college in the Fall) and your brain has places where it stores memories and etc. It even has a place that creates emotion. Its located around the back of your head. (Its actually been proven that adults think with the frontal lobe, but teenagers and below think with that emotional lobe. Cool, no?) But I haven't heard of anything that gave personality.
Personality has always been debated as nature/nuture, but I think it has something to do with your soul/spirit. Your soul/spirit can be affected by nature/nuture, but we still have natural reactions to certain stimuli.
I don't know. Its a sketchy topic, cause you can't really prove the existance of a soul/spirit.

Hands down- you have one.
Even, scientifically, the eletrical pulses that made your body move can be called a 'soul'.
Since humans have a higher level of thinking, obviously from the things we deem to be necessary in our lives, we all would like to think that we exist after the big end. After all, life is a big race to die and all that good stuff- but what happens afterwards is any one's guess.
What should be debated is wheither those people who talk to ghosts are really talking to their loved ones or not. I mean, thats too convient. In all of the supernatural world of MILLIONS AND BAZILLIONS of people who have died? And your talking to your boyfriend who died in a crash? How do you know it's him, because, spirits hang around watching what we do all the time. A good number of other spirits are gona know what yall did at the summer house that one time, so...
According to my belief, people who talk to 'ghosts' are usually not talking to their loved ones but are entertaining demons. *shrug*
Wheither I believe it or not?... My deal is that why are you concerned with talking to dead people? If we're all going to get there, we shouldn't worry about it UNTIL we get there. :/... I mean, there are people starving, children dying, wars, and all this bad stuff going on and your trying to find out whats going to happen to you when you die? Thats a waste of life to me.

yup, i agree with what you said XD its always a possibility youre talking to your loved one (though youll only really be able to tell if you can a: see the spirit and b:recognize its energy signature as the same one of the deceased.... even then its not foolproof, some spirits can mask their energy) but again, is highly unlikely. heck, theres a ghost in my room, but i dont believe its "the ghost of a loved one", its probably some lonely, bored spirit that likes playing pranks on me (making things move when im not looking, moving the curtain in front of my closet when it wouldnt be moving, etc...) and it knows i know its there so i just let it have fun....
i just want to know what poor soul died and thought "hey, she looks like a fun person to bother!" XD

Like... the house that my grandparents built?
They also died in that house. So if something happens we assume it's them because:
1: they built that house with their bare hands. And thats a really grand achievement. I mean, have you ever built a house? And not use a crane and stuff like that?
2: they also died in that house, or near that house in the same city? And given the first fact, yea. They could possibly come back from time to time.

no, this is just a wandering spirit that was passin through and decided to become a permanent house guest XD our house was built when i was not even a few months old and we moved in when it was completed. but the spirit has been there a while, i think. (s)he's nice, though, just has one hell of a sense of humor neutral

But um- yea. My next point--
Since I kinda did bring up demons- do you believe in those too? Every culture/ religion kinda has this... embodiment of really bad stuff that is usually trying to kill and or spiritually mame humans.
Do you buy it or do you not? Personally, I do.

Yeah, we tried fixing the wiring once because my parents don't listen to me - but it never worked (and now our wiring is more up-to-date then nearly all of our county, but whatever). As for demons- it really depends on what orgin your looking at? Japanese "demons" are more like embodiments of nature that have coginitive human emotion. Like, they experience greed and jealousy and all that.
Then you got your really nasty, human hating demons in the west, so... Personally, since I am in the west I believe in those. And then, just to explain my belief further, demons are like really bad spirits and yea- they can become apart of people's spirits n such and the like~

I suppose I believe that the general appearance of a demon can exist - but perhaps the only ones that can be classified as demons are the evil ones? I don't know. Can feel the purest of love <<

i agree with you alex. they could all exist or none of them could. tis irritating, isnt it? but your ghost-friend sounds funny XD mine is just annoying. though he proved hes good-hearted the other night because he helped sensei get rid of this evil child-sized presence in my room~ but ill tell you more about that next time we talk lol
