Once we ACTUALLY had a serious discussion in the guild sometime ago (NOWAI! O: ) and it had something to do with whether we were fans of their music before being fans of just the guys themselves. We kinda had come to a conclusion that by our Western (or culturally different) standards, although we love it, JE singing in general isn't all that up to par. Well I think we should branch off from that: Who do you think actually has the singing ability to be considered good or by Western standards (if they were able to sing in English without an accent XD)? So basically, who would "make it to Hollywood"?
*listening to Care* Jin is definitely up there.... he has such tone and control with his voice. Definitely one of my favorite voices in JE. I don't think the high note would go well with everyone here but the boy definitely has good range.
*switches to Pain* Tego is definitely up there. His voice has taken him far considering his age. I'm mean, he could still be a Junior. *hears him hit a high note* That boy can belt it out.
What is Yamapi's solo in the recent NewS concert? Oh well, I'm listening to it. We always think about Pi and his MANY MANY dramas so we don't typically think of him as a good singer. It's a different tone but it's really good. I rarely hear him get out of tune.
*switches to Top Secret* Ohno IS Arashi's voice. Without him they would be so.... empty? (Sho is awesome rapping love that would also make Arashi empty as well though.) His voice is higher than the others I've mentioned but I think that's good. He can rock (well not necessarily "rock") out with his voice! 8D You can never really mistake Ohno's singing for anyone elses.
(Just because of... my hatred... for Junno...) *switches to Seishin* He like others such as.... Ryo, Kame, etc seems to be on that middle road in my opinion... If they sing a certain way they would "make it to Hollywood". In the case of Junno, I didn't notice until recently how he has two sides to his singing voice. One can be high the other low. Very different sides actually. I prefer his low Bokura no Machi de/Special Happiness voice. He does wonderfully live usually. He gets pitchy sometimes but that's usually when he's trying to sing a turn (the decoration stuff singers do). What I love about his lower singing voice is that he has a great vibrato which really makes his voice distinct (and, it might be just be me, you are able to hear it in their songs even if he's not singing a solo). So yeah... that may be my pathetic bias... yeah, really is probably XD, but there are others with that case.
Whaddaya all think about it? 8D

Okay well, I'll just start with KAT-TUN and move to the other groups later. I haven't really listened to their voices in Arashi or anything like that...or I just don't know whose voice belongs to who sweatdrop
So first...Jin. Out of all the members of KAT-TUN, Jin definitely has the voice. I mean, he does a great job with all this solos, whether those show his voice's true talents or not. Like Sai said, he has lots of control with his voice. And that high note...that famous high note... ~_~ I can tell you the first time I heard that I was just amazed. Yay for Jinjin. heart
Kame...as much as I love his singing, it doesn't compare to some of the others in JE. He does have a distinctive voice though. If I heard him in any song, I'd know it's him. I don't confuse his voice with anyone else's. That's one of the things I like about his voice. ^__^ heart heart
Okay, switching to NewS. Yamapi. Gah, who doesn't love his voice? He has one where you can tell it's him as well. You know when Yamapi is singing. I love that about him (same as Kame). He holds out his voice well too...nice control Pi! ^_^
Subaru from K8. As soon as I heard his voice, I knew I'd love it. His has that...gah that Japanese voice. What is it called? I know Jin-hime said it once. sweatdrop While many would find this to be annoying, I find it unique. I'd like to see people sing like Baru! xp I love it in Naniwa Iroha Bushi and Oh ENKA!. It just gets to me every time. I love it! heart
Umm...that is all for now until I learn more voices to faces. 8D;;;

I'll just list them and so briefly why I think that way:
Tego: Tego has a soft strong voice that anyone can love. He can sing certain notes better than any JE boy and his voice is better than most Western singers in my opinion.
Jin: Jin falls under the same catergory as Tego. Jin has a lovely voice. I love when he sings Kizuna in Dream Boys 2006.
Baru: Also same Catergory as Tego but I like Baru's voice more. its more mature but at time his voice is to high when he sing certain songs live and it sound bad but he has improved with each concert. When he sang Maru Aonamida, I just want to melt. He swoons me with his voice. No JE boy has that effect.
I like Hina's voice. When he sang during the Eito Ranger skit at the Heat Up! concert he shound really really good. Surprised me.
I think they could make it in America although they probably would still have to train a little more. They are up to par in my opinion.
Other people who I think are up to par:
Massu
Kame
But I was a fan of JE music before the person itself.

Okay, personally, I think the only ones with voices that would really MAKE IT in Hollywood are Jin and Tegoshi. Their voices obviously blow pretty much everyone else out of the water.
Baru is pretty spectacular too. But his voice is, well, more suited for enka. He has great vocal chords, but they aren't what Hollywood wants to hear...you know what I mean? Traditional enka and stuff. Gah he's so talented though. He sings, plays guitar, writes music and lyrics...
I'm not saying the other guys have bad voices or anything.
Jyannis are definitely talented, no doubt about that. But a lot of the guys are kind of on middle-ground when it comes to singing. They aren't bad so as to embarrass themselves, but what can I say, they don't always wow me. I like how their voices sound, but that doesn't neccessarily mean they sing extremely well. I don't know how to explain it. OH. Well. Their voices make me go "Ohmygah he sounds so hot" rather than "Ohmygah he sings sooo good". Do I make sense?
((For example, Ryo in Osaka Rainy Blues, I love when he sings in that song, it sounds really hot and everything, but I don't necessarily think WOW he's such a talented singer! I just think it sounds really good. Tegoshi, on the other hand, I'd listen to Zutto over and over again because I can't get over how beautiful his voice is, with the vibrato and clear strength of it.))
Then again, who knows. A lot of singers in America make me wonder WHY. They don't necessarily sound good, but they do it anyways. So if you take into consideration the slightly lower standards these days, then yes, these guys could definitely make it (minus the boyband factor). Put in a competition like AI though, just Tego and Jin.
Of course, when I say just those two, I'm speaking from my limited knowledge of specific voices from other bands like SMAP or TOKIO or V6 or whatever. WHAT CAN I SAY, I AM VERY PESSIMISTIC. I MAY SOUND LIKE I HATE JE MUSIC BUT I DON'T I LOVE THE SONGS TO PIECES I REALLY DO!
Also, out of the juniors' voices I know, I like Hikaru's. 8D

Yeah definitely, I can say that I'm sure Jin could make it. Tego as well.
I honestly think it's alright to be pessimistic with your opinions of them. We're from a different culture and we think differently about the entertainment business. That and like we said, they auditioned and made it not because they could sing but because of other factors. (Especially looks... really off topic but have you ever wondered HOW Johnny-sama knows that certain boys will grow to be incredibly hot?! ~.~ He has some sort of super power, I swear... ANYWAYZ...) But then again, don't you think that there are singers here that we can also me pessimistic about? Like, when you ignore the awesome beat of a song or something, you sometimes realize: "Hey, if they ever auditioned for American Idol, they wouldn't make it event to Hollywood." Do you think that our standards are changed not only by listening to music from other countries but also that the times have changed to where we don't appreciate a good voice like they did in the past? (I mean, look at the voting now in AI... sorry to any Sanjaya fans ^^; )

It seems I need to listen to just Tegoshi singing.
I can't spot him on his own in the groups. I only know Pi and Ryo's voices. ^^;; Oh and Massu.

Well I listened to Tegoshi. He has a pretty good voice. Though it doesn't sound like THE BEST I've ever heard. I'm sorry if you disagree with me, it's just how I feel. Though I will say that I love his acapella (sp?) thing of HwM. He really sings well in that even though it's only like 30 secs. And I watched the HwM PV again and tried to just listen to him. He does really project his voice in that song. Bravo, bravo. =]

seriously I think only Jin could make it in hollywood. He's fun,sexy,cute,has the personality and his a voice as gorgeous as his face. The whole package.He could really make it.
The others you guys mentioned are all talented and good singers but I don't think they could make it.
especially Baru, God I love his voice but americas not ready for him.

It's true that Jin does have the whole package; voice, looks, personality, and all. Not many come like that. xD <3 I do think Tegoshi would make it somewhat big because his voice is just major love. It's really good. He has well control and everything. heart

I don't actually think Pi is that good of a singer. Maybe its because of a performance I saw and he didn't so an okay job. Actually I had to stop watching it because he wasn't good. He has a good voice in certain songs but he's not hollywood worthy.

Yeah, Pi has a decent voice, but it's not amazing. It's like, he could make it in a group in Hollywood, but I'm not sure about solo. He's got enough talent as it is as a actor, singer, and dancer.... can we say almost too much talent?.... NAH. XD
