While I'll admit I actually like the site in general and have been going there for quite some time, have you checked out the latest Weekend Web? That's just pure bullying and trollishness right there, and I don't know about you, but is seriously pissing me off, because it's a popular site and that stupid review is likely going to have some actual effect on people's ideas of Asperger's Syndrome. Yeah, I know it's not "serious" and they make fun of everyone, but the thing is, you can't ignore the obvious influence it's going to have on people.

So, am I just taking this way too seriously (and no, for the record, I'm not stopping going to the site altogether--I still love the Comedy Goldmine, just that one article's pissing me off), or does it bother you as well? Any thoughts?

Hm? What exactly is the Weekend Web? Perhaps if you could explain a little more, dear?

Go here, and look through pages four and five. Weekend Web's a section where they look at various forum sites and pick out a few choice posts to make fun of.

So you read part of it, and are pissed about the article as well, or are you mad at me for linking? I'm a bit confused here.

The second question was whether or not I'm making a bigger deal out of the whole thing than should really be made.

Weird article, I gotta say. I think these people are some rather serious cases, though I feel kinda related to these people. I have a fetish I won't explain further, I sometimes prefer to stay at home rather than hanging out with the guys, and I used to have difficulty dealing with the other sex until last year (though you won't see me with a girl for a while, because I'm stuck in an engineering career that makes me think I'm in an all-men school).

But I do think this article is good for some laughter. It's kinda like Maddox's page. It's just poking fun at some stuff, and that's just for pure fun, nothing serious.

They're not making fun of us all, they're making fun of some in particular. And I can definitely see the point, especially with the kid who said the forumites were ruining his life because they couldn't suggest how to raise $2000.

Oh my god, this just makes me rather paranoid about where and what I post on the internet. I mean... I was aware that I should be cautious before, but seriously...

I used to be a member at Wrongplanet.net, I haven't been back there in quite some time, though. Partially *because* of all the weirdness that could abound from certain members. I know a few of the posters that were quoted (some of the less odd ones of the group, by the by) and I feel really bad for them, especially those whose pictures were posted : /. Also... I am fairly certain the pictures posted are from the "members only" section of the site, which makes this even more invasive.

So yes, this definitely upsets me! It may not have been *so* bad if they didn't also include the member names alongside the posts (though it still would be rather insulting).

Contrary to popular belief, the internet is not serious business. Please refrain from treating it as such.

For some of us, the Internet is our main source of socialization and the only place we can turn to where we don't feel constantly judged.

Amen to that. God, I hate that meme--did anyone find the whole "the internet is serious business" thing even funny in the first place?

And I already stated that I know it's meant to be "funny" and all (quotes because, come on, it obviously isn't), but just because something's meant as humor doesn't make it exempt from having influence over how people are going to view something.

this kind of made me think about this thread i posted about cyber bullying a while back and it still haunts me to this day. the reason why i went to other post and posted mean stuff was because i thought that people werent taking my post seriously. i didnt want it to become something controversial or anything. i was just mad. that's why i was afraid to post anything the first few days i got back on gaia (i took a little hiatus to cool off because of the people on here. some people are such idiots) i dont even go into certain rooms in towns anymore because of it. but i dont think that people should take things as a joke or take it lightly if the other person doesnt think that way. its like pushing someone down and laughing at them. you cant just do that to anyone.
