Knockturn Alley is a dingy alleyway where the shops are devoted to Dark Arts items. The alley is connected to Diagon Alley near Gringotts. There are stores selling shrunken heads, live gigantic black spiders, and poisonous candles. Street vendors include an old witch with a tray full of whole human fingernails. And somewhere in the alley, according to Hagrid, someone sells Flesh-Eating Slug Repellent.
Twillfit & Tatting's
This is a known upscale robe shop. Let's just say that, if the Second Hand Robe Shop was for the lower class and Madam Malkin's was for middle class, this would mainly be for the upper class.
[[ In one HP book, Narcissa decided to take her business there after meeting a 'mudblood' in Madam Malkin's, so it can be readily assumed that the main business here is from Pure Bloods who are also rich folk. It could also be assumed that due to this reason, Twillfit & Tatting's is most likely located in Knockturn Alley.]]
Borgin & Burkes
Borgin & Burkes, located at 13B, is the largest establishment in Knockturn Alley. It sells Dark Arts magic items, some of which are very dangerous. The proprietor, Mr. Borgin, buys as well as sells all manner of strange and sinister things.
Many years ago, Tom Riddle worked at Borgin and Burkes because it allowed him access to many strange and powerful enchanted items.
In this capacity he discovered that Hepzibah Smith owned two priceless artifacts: the cup of Helga Hufflepuff and a particularly valuable locket that had once belonged to Salazar Slytherin. Tom murdered Smith, framed her house-elf for the murder, stole the items, and vanished.
