Dawn.is.Dandy Hey there, awesome mod, any ideas? I have a few suggestions, they're a bit vague but have good flexiblity for us creative types. - shame/embarassment (possibly peope suffering from embarassment, something that embarasses you, someone doing something they should be ashamed of, etc) - jump (people jumping, animals jumping, you taking a photo WHILE jumping) - all tied up (somewhat obvious, things that are entangled) - erasing the past (somehow taking a photos that portrays the destruction of someone's/your past) I don't know, they're a bit stupid but I was just brain storming and need a new project.

I have one idea; Far Away Places. (basically a shot from something not from your hometown). It may be hard to tell if it really is from someplace far away, but if it gives the feel of something besides small town USA it should be eligible.
I doubt I could enter it, though, since the pictures apparently have to be taken for the contest, and I can't just take a trip for an online contest. *Maybe it should be legal to use any pic taken whenever for this so long as it's yours and well done?*

I understand your point, Ohki, but that would defeat the purpose of these challenges. The idea is to push members to go out and actually USE their cameras. It would be too easy for them to just dig up something from their archives and post it. You don't learn anything that way.

It would be too easy for them to just dig up something from their archives and post it. You don't learn anything that way. That's very true. I'm just used to the challenges in a 2nd photo guild I visit where that's not the case, I guess x3. Though maybe if this particular one started at the beginning of the summer and ended at the end, it would give people a chance, and summer is the time people go out on vacation ^.^.

Hmmmm...well.
Your photo challenges have a great idea going. I have a cool idea.
It seems all too often that people submit awsome photos, with great use of photographic elements, and some obvious talent, that simply don't convey anything besides how cool or pleasing they look.
I have an idea for a contest where, somewhat like the Photo Challenges, you have a set photographic element to shoot, but you also have a criteria for conveying something, i.e. a mood.
Specifically, I was thinking.
A weekly contest thread. The format would be as such.
"Welcome to the third of our mood series for this month.
Message Conveyed: Sorrow
Photographic Element: Framing
Have fun!"
Sorta like that. Dunno. Might be cool.

Might be cool. i really like that idea. i just want more contests in general! gonk but okay, i'll throw out some ideas. contradiction - two things in a picture that contradict/oppose each other (obviously) freedom - someone or something being set free (or being held captive?) isolation/loneliness - very overdone, i know. but it's a subject i know very well hate/anger/frustration music - very vague but go beyond just photographing people listening to music. maybe what certain music inspires you to photograph, something that has to do with the actual song, and post the lyrics so we understand the correlation (eh?) masks - literal or metaphorical. comfort - emotional: things that comfort you when you're sad or upset or something. physical: things that keep you warm in the winter, cool in the summer...

I second that. I really like Duke.Lychee's idea.
Also, how about a pinhole camera contest? They're pretty easy to make (I can provide a couple of links to instructions, as well), so those without a camera of their own would have no problem. Also, it brings us all away from the typical digital paradigm. Pinhole photography is simple and primitive, and gets us back to the roots of photography.
Of course, a pinhole camera contest would require a far-off deadline, enough to give everyone enough time to build their cameras and develop the film. Also, scanning the negatives and getting the image onto a computer may be a problem for some of us.
Just an idea.
