The story of a band of friends as they try to live out their lives as outlaws in the forest. All thought to be dead by their families for one reason or another, they struggle to live out day by day without being caught by wanderers in the woods or search parties. Each has their own reason for staying hidden in the woods.

In order to survive they have to catch their own food, or steal what they can from local villages. It is risky, but in order to stay as outlaws it is what has to be done.

Nicholina ran through the forest, her hands filled with the goodies she had collected in the village. The dark of night had hidden her fairly well, but there had been some commotion, so the alarm had been raised. Lucky for her she was quick enough through the dark woods to elude them.

“Stupid villagers,” she said to herself as she made her way back towards the abandoned village that served as the hideout. “Can’t even spare a loaf of bread.”

As she passed through the walls of the fortress she waved at the young woman stationed behind the wall with her bow and arrow positioned and ready to fire at any unwelcome visitor.

“Took you long enough,” she said to Nicholina. “We were beginning to worry about you.”

“Sorry,” she said. “I ran into a bit of trouble, but it wasn’t anything I couldn’t handle.”

The young woman just rolled her eyes, and Nicholina made her way into the heart of the ruined fortress.

Litia hear the footsteps as they came close to the communal fire that was in the heart of the village. This was the only building that still had a roof, and boards had been put in place over the windows so that any light caused by a fire would be blocked out, and outsiders wouldn't be able to see it. It also helped to keep the room toasty warm during the winter and the cold nights of spring and fall.

Turning around she saw Nicholina come into the building, her hands laden with food. Jumping up she ran over to her friend and stood right beside her. Her posture and her face was mischievous and anyone who knew her could tell what she was about to do. Quickly she moved her hand up and then across and grabbed one of the loaves of bread. Of course the leader was standing close, and had Litia's wrist before her hand could even get close to her mouth.

"I don't think that belongs to you," the leader said as she pulled the bread from Litia's hand, and then tossed it to some girls across the room.

"But, but, I'm hungry," she whined as she looked at the leader with pleading eyes.

"If I didn't know you," the leader said, "I would be convinced that you were really being sincere, but I know you are just faking," she added with a smile. "Feel free to hand out your goodies," the leader told Nicholina, "Just make sure to feed this one last," she said in reference to Litia.

A sigh escaped Isibel's lips as her eyes searched the vast forest ahead of her. Nothing. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, just something to cure her boredom. She sat on a small bit of stone wall, part of a building long ruined. It was the furthest into the woods she could go without being completely separated from the small makeshift village. The bit of wall was on a rising of land, so she could let her legs fall without her feet sitting on anything. She swung her legs back and forth a little, her hands resting on the wall on either side of her.

Sitting there, she soon began to whistle. It was an old Irish melody that just seemed to slip into her head. One of the verses reminded her of a time when her older brother and her got into trouble. Or at least they should of. It was at a party and people were playing that same song. She and her brother were spared punishment by their parents because of the party. Their father was merely in too good of a mood.

She glanced up at the darkened sky, and soon after couldn't help but shiver slightly. She slid down off the bit of wall and quickly began walking back towards the small community that she had become a part of. It seemed like it wasn't too long ago, but she couldn't tell anymore, and she had stopped trying.

She walked past a young man, watching for unfamiliar faces, or anything else that could come from out of the woods. He started slightly when he saw here, but then recognized her and relaxed. She gave him a warm appreciative smile as she went by, continuing quickly towards the warmth of the communal fire.

Nicholina passed Litia on her way to distribute food, and as she did she slipped a small piece of bread into the girls hand. She then quickly went on her way, and started handing out her goods to the other members.

Their numbers had slowly grown, so stealing had become a much bigger part of their rutine than before. They now had to go and take from the poor villagers more than often. It was really starting to bother Nicholina, but she knew her same problems with it were also affecting the others as well.

Litia smiled, and then pressed the bread between her lips before the leader could see. She then chased after Nicholina.

"Thanks for that," she said between licking her lips. "Who are you going to go feed first? Look outs?"

Isibel approached the small hut, in which she knew the rest of the community sat with a fire in the center of the room. As she stepped over a large tree root, she could both feel and hear her stomach grumble discontentedly with hunger. She approached the building with an outstretched hand. Opening the door, she was immediately greeted by the light of the fire. She stepped inside and quickly closed the door behind her.

As Isibel walked toward the fire, ready to warm her hands, she noticed people around her munching on bread and other foods. As she held her hands near the fire, she let out a small sigh, thinking of how the portions handed out had slowly gotten smaller.

She wanted to wait until she had warmed herself thoroughly to set her mind onto filling her stomach, but it would not let her. It let out a growl of impatience, so she looked around for the person handing out the food. 'Let's see...' she thought, as her eyes scanned the room. ’Whose turn was it tonight? ...Ah!' Her eyes had landed on Nicholina.

"Nicholina!" She shouted happily, as she hurried towards her. She weaved between a a few people talking amongst themselves, and took up the side of Nicholina not occupied by Litia. "So, how'd it go?" She asked, her eyes lingering on the food in her hands before flicking up to the girl's face.

Nicholina smiled as she handed Isibel some bread. "They are starving just as much as we are, if not more," she told her. Soon we won't be able to raid villages anymore because there will be nothing to take. We are going to have to start venturing off into the capital," she said. "I don't even know if I will have enough for everyone tonight," she said with a sigh as she looked at the small amount of food she had left.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2007 3:31 pm

"Good luck with that," Litia said as she munched on her small piece of bread. "She hardly lets us go seven miles away from here, let alone the eleven to the capital," she told them. "We are just going to have to get out and hunt more."

"How can we hunt more?" Nicholina asked. "There isn't anything left to hunt, we have already hunted more than we should, if we do anymore then there will be nothing left. You know that."

"Hey," one of the lookouts called from the door, and Nicholina tossed him the rest of the bread.

"Hand it out to the rest of them," she told him. "We are going to have to risk the capital. We have no other choice. It is either that or we start eating each other." She was just kidding, but their numbers had gotten to high. What had once only been six was now slightly over twenty. They would all starve this winter if something didn't happen, and soon. Winter was just around the corner.
PostPosted: Tue Apr 17, 2007 4:26 pm

"Thanks," Isibel said as she took the bread. As she bit into it, chewed and swallowed, she kept track of what the other two were saying. She listened and ate her portion of bread. Though was a little difficult for her, she made sure to eat it slowly, savoring it.

"It's true," she said looking over at Litia. "The forest feels so empty now." She paused, her eyes drifting towards one of the windows. "It's almost creepy."

Isibel cringed slightly at Nicholina's joke. It was true though. The small building was noticably much more crowded than it used to be, and with their current food source fading, they didn't have a choice. She thought of the capital, only rendering a vague picture of it in her mind. She had not been in the capital in so long, that she couldn't be sure what it looked like. The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to go.

"We have no choice," Nicholina said again. "If she won't let us we will have to go on our own. She doesn't own us," Nicholina whispered to the two girls near her. She wasn't sure how they would take this, but she was dead serious. Winter was coming, and they were all going to die if they all stayed here. It was over crowded and as soon as illness hit it would spread like wildfire, and they would all be doomed.
