About The Lomo
The Birth of the Lomo
User Image In 1982, General Igor Petrowitsch Kornitzky, right-hand man to the USSR Minister of Defense and Industry, showed his comrade Michail Panfilowitsch Panfiloff a small little Japanese mini-camera.
User Image He examined the camera, noticing its delicate features, sharp glass lens, high light sensitivity and robust casing.
User Image The two men instantly realised just how great this camera was, gave immediate orders to copy and improve the design.
User Image Their ultimate goal to produce largest quantity possible for the pleasure and glory of the Soviet population.
User Image Every respectable communist was to have their own LOMO KOMPAKT AUTOMAT.
User Image The Lomo LCA was born, and was shipped off to their friends, Vietnam, Cuba and East Germany where the last glimpses of communism were shot.

Discovery
User Image In 1991, a bunch of Viennese students were crusing through Prague.
User Image By this time, the LCA was was coming to a close, weakened by cheap batteries and the fact one could only own one by going to a quirky camera store, it seemed as if it the sun was about to set.
User Image But the Viennese students happen to stumble across one of these quirky camera stores, and bought the funny little contraption just for fun.
User Image They zoomed through rolls of film, shooting through and above legs, from the hip and even through the view finder.
User Image Back home, the developed the film but to find shots which were small, sad, amusing and garish shots fresh from the Czech Republic.
User Image These images were something new, something exciting and given them a feeling of which they had never felt before...

The Lomographic Society
User Image Created in 1992-1993 in Vienna, The Lomographic Society was created with an aim to spread the Message of Lomography.
User Image After seeing the students photos, everyone demanded they get their grubby little paws on one.

Click-Click-Click-Click
User Image {In 1998-1999} Photokina - the largest Photography convention in the world - had just introduced a new camera, THE ACTIONSAMPLER.
User Image This is a camera which seperates one second, into four frames, and puts it back together on a single photo, Creating something totally new.
User Image It had created a Fever that struck all lomographers.

New Baby
User Image At the Salone Del Mobile - 2000 - the massive annual design convention in Milan, the Lomographic Society International presents the first camera to have been developed, designed and patented exclusively by a team of Lomographers: the SuperSampler!
User Image This camera also seperates a second into four parts, but re assembles them, Longitudanaly!(sp?)

Let's Melt some Plastic!
User Image In summer of 2001, Kunsthalle (Contemporary Art Hall) in the Vienna MuseumsQuartier, the Lomographic Society christened the very first Lomography Shop in the world.
User Image It was created with the Lomography's Golden Rule, "Don't Think, Just Shoot."

Pop!
User Image In june 2002, The pop 9 camera had just been born.
User Image Consisting of not 1, not 4, but 9 Lenses
User Image It creates a pop art world at your very finger tips.

The 10 Golden Rules of Lomography

Number 1
Take your camera everywhere you go.

Number 2
Use it any time - day and night.

Number 3
Lomography is not an interference in your life, but part of it.

Number 4
Try the shot from the hip.

Number 5
Approach the objects of your lomographic desire as close as possible.

Number 6
"Don't Think" - William Firebrace

Number 7
Be fast.

Number 8
You don't have to know beforehand what you have captured on film.

Number 9
After wards either.

Number 10
Don't worry about any rules.

User Image

Examples
HOLGA SHOTs heart blaugh

User Image
=> Just a car and hawker stall - as you can see, holgas leave a funny sort of border, which can be good or bad. depending on how you look at it. 8D

User Image
=> The red comes from the little red window on the outside back panel of the camera. its there so you can see how many photos you have taken. so that you can keep track on how many you have left. 8D

User Image
=> This is what happens when you forget to wind the film. orr you just have multiple exposures on one frame. 8D

I have yet to try the 35mm film in a holga thing. but when i do,
ill be sure to put up some examples!!

I assume all 120 is the same..but it really sucks when you have to seperate the film from the paper wrapper. I know when I rolled my first one I thought I killed my film, ALAS...in stead of killing the film in the rolling stage I killed it while developing. Our fixer was old so it ruined it.
