Its spring where I live and in a couple months it will be time to start planting flowers and all. I love this time of year. Although my gardening space is small and I have to do container gardening, I still like to plant with the Faeries in mind. I fill as many clay pots, hanging baskets and windowboxes as my space can hold smile
There is an area in the yard that is left to grow wild. I know that the Faeries like that.
I thought it would be nice to start a Faerie gardening thread and discuss everyones experiences. Anyone doing anything special this year to enhance Faerie or nature spirit activity in their garden? What do you plan to grow this year?

I would love to grow lavender and hyacinths, but where I live, it wouldn't permit. I love orchids, although, they are difficult to grow. I'm really not sure what to grow. I mean, I want to grow something, but it would have to be a small potted plant. Something very colorful. Maybe orange. I'll have to think on it a bit more. heart

I just like the colours and scents of a garden. But my back yard won't support one. It is a very small yard, but big enough for my dog to do his business, but because of the 3 trees that surround it, they absorb all the nutrients from the ground. I have a hard enough time trying to grow grass so my dog doesn't come in with muddy paws lol

Fairy Shamrock, do you have any suggestions on plants with certain...energies? I'm looking for flowers to be in a small apartment (4 people total). I'm looking for something that will promote health, and positive energy.
Also, would you have any simple websites, or other information about the healing attributes of plants and how to use them? I have found the first part, but I have trouble locating how to actually *use* the plant. I know that the most common use is tea, but I know there are some plants that are poisonous to ingest.
Help, please? 4laugh

i have a really good book published by Readers Digest that tells you the different uses for various plants, and how to prepare them. Including things like salves, ointments, and various methods for making Teas and tinctures.
The Encyclopedia of Medicinal Plants by Andrew Chevallier (cost me about $50.00 Canadian)
Other books I have: Encyclopedia of Herbs & Their Uses by Deni Brown (also published by Reader's Digest) also cost me $50.00 Canadian
Health through God's Pharmacy by Maria Treben (published by Ennstaler Verlag, Steyr) cost me $30.00 Canadian, and available in 23 languages.

I'll have to look at that one from Readers Digest. That is EXACTLY what I have been looking for! Thank you!

I know the internet is a good source for looking anything up. Most of my books are still packed away so I started using the computer more. My yard is a work in progress right now. We just moved in 3 years ago and have been in and out between Alabama and Michigan. Big difference, haven't been able to see what flowers grow here yet. Even though in the spring our yard is full of flowers, they are all on bushes. A couple of cute projects are, if you have a small place, layer gardening in a pot and making faerie houses. You use bulbs in the container.. layering first dirt , then working up large bulbs, dirt, etc., to smaller bulbs. If you do it right you should have flowers all year. Make sure you read when they bloom so you will get it right. Faerie houses I read about in an article and thought it was cute. They decorated bird houses to be a faerie house, not only on the outside but the inside too. They left one side on hinges so you could open it up like a doll house to check if there had been any faeries there and the kids would leave little bits of food there for them. It's a fun group project when everybody gets to decorate their own!

Besides gardening, tying a ribbon around a tree branch is sign towards Faerie. I can't remember if it also means healing?
