Alright, so... I do not support or practice self-piercing, but I don't go around telling people what to do or not to do with their bodies either, unless I care for them, then I advice them, the either fallow my advice or get ********. xD
Anyway, my best friend, former piercer and now almost 30 came over to my place last night, like she usually does most Fridays and told me she was getting her tongue pierced. I was kinda... confused since it was already 8pm and it was going to be hard to find a piercing parlor open at that time in our town, mainly 'cause most of 'em, or at least the good ones, close at 8 on Fridays. SOO, I asked her about it and she told me that she was doing it herself to... sorta show me how it was done, since I am learning and apprenticing to be a piercer. So, fast forward to 9pm, she goes in the bathroom, puts some gloves on, dries her tongue with some paper towels, marks the area she is going to re-pierce (she had it pierce before, not to mention she already had 2 other inside-mouth piercing, like I like to call 'em) and she stabs her tongue with a needle, twisting it at the end, not only to make the thing bleed, but making the piercing look crooked. It had been 7 years since she last pierced someone or something so she forgot some stuff she was supposed to do first, like use sterile equipment for example and she used jewelry that was a bit too long, making it impossible for her to even talk. After trying to change the jewelry a couple of time and having to force it in, that way re-piercing the tongue with the ring since tongue piercings close up extremely fast, let's say... seconds after piercing it if you take the jewelry out, she started to bleed again like... a whole lot and... after that, she just yanked it out and poof, more blood and a small bruise on her now swollen tongue. Did she learn her lesson? No. She is trying it again tonight. With a loop.
Nope, I am not flaming her, well, yes I am, but... I am not saying anything I hadn't already told her and... well... I just hope she suddenly has an epiphany and decides not to do it. xP

Damn. I don't know enough about piercing to even imagine trying to pierce something like my tongue. I don't think I'd do it myself even if I did know how.
I re-pierced my lobes, but I could still tell where the holes were from when I was pierced as a baby. Plus, I figured I really couldn't ******** up my lobes that bad. ;D

I've done my bellybutton before.
I went about it the worst way possible.
I pierced it with a non-sterile safety pin
and got scared after it went all the way through, so I just closed the safety pin and went to bed xD.
And of course, the morning after, I was still scared to take it out. [I was scared because I thought I wouldn't be able to get the jewelry through]
I left the safety pin in for about...2 weeks.
maybe 3.
I cleaned it and stuff, soyeah.
but when I finally got over my scaredyness, I couldn't get the safety pin open because of all the dried up crusties on it.

I ended up being able to get it out, and insert the jewelry without any pain or blood or anything.
I still have that piercing.
it looks like s**t.

In all my time iv'e been really into body modification, It seems like it's usually only the underage kids that are self piercing on a constant basis. It makes me want to rip my hair out when I hear some kid say "Im going to pierce my own [Insert body part here] tonight!" So I ask if they are using the right tools. "Yeah a safety pin and a earring"... Are you sterilizing the safety pin? "Yeah over some fire"

I wish younger kids could be more informed on stuff like this before they decide to go and shove dirty pins through themselves. Im not going to tell them they CAN'T do it to them self, but I try to explain why they shouldn't. Especially the kids that want to pierce their own tongue or nose or something. If you ******** something like that up, there are risks of SERIOUS infections, then, when they get an infection they take the "jewelry" out, and now the infection is an Internal one.
Kudos to BME for making a little guide about self piercing.

I pierced my ears all except the lowest holes.
But I didn't dare do my other piercings myself.

Yeah, I pierced and re-pierced my ears and stretched the first lobes on my own. I don't really know if that counts though, just around here no one does that. xD
I tried piercing my tongue on my own but my Dad wouldn't let me finish. Thank he stars for his closed mindedness because I really don't want a freekin' mouth infection.

the only self piercing I have done was repiercing holes in my ears, and I learned my lesson, I got a cyst from it, which hurts like hell. No matter how many times I get that spot pierced, I get a cyst, so I finally said screw it after the 3rd time.
I actually know someone who did a self piercing for genitals, he actually didn't mess it up, which suprises me.

Oh gosh.
Self piercings are not smart.
I'm guilty of some stupid s**t though.
me+pins+energy drink=holes in skin...
Nothing serious, although I did get an infection on the back of my hand, it's all good now.
