but o my love though our bodies may be parted
though our skin may not touch skin

For me, meeting an author is so much better than if I were to meet an actor or actress. So this is the thread where you can tell us if you've met authors and who they were. :]

I've met:

Gregory Maguire (author of Wicked)
Bret Easton Ellis (author of American Psycho)
Rita Mae Brown (author of a series of mystery novels and Rubyfruit Jungle)

Have you guys met any? What were they like? What authors do you want to meet the most?

Uh...does my Great Uncle count? He has published a novel.

I think it would be interesting to meet Charles de Lint. And Douglas Adams, were he still alive.

Last year I met Neil Gaiman and was so insanely happy about it, I couldn't say a word, but he was very nice dispite my paralyzing fan-girlishness. (He's my favorite author.)

I've met Jonathan Franzen too, who I wasn't much of a fan of, and am even less so now. And also Michael Collier (poet) whose pretty nice, but not my favorite writer.

But when I met Michael Glazer- poet lauret of my state, or he was at the time I met him- I had no idea who he was and we ended up having a nice conversation where he gave me a few book reccomendations.

That's about it. If I could meet anyone, I'd like to meet Gaiman again, and maybe be able to say something this time.

... *cries softly with jealousy*

Actually, my brothers next door are related to Tamora Pierce by marriage. Stevie, the aspiring novelist among them, chats with her on a regular basis about story ideas, and she sends him all kinds of free stuff, like new release books and all.

He gave me her address, as well, in case I wish to send her any love letters or whatever, but I've been too... well, fangirly. XD I may try once I have some time on my hands, though. Tamora Pierce influenced me and my own writings so much, I have to at least thank her for it.

I shall capture your dreams, he whispered.

That's cool! I live in Portland and a friend of mine's next door neighbor is Ursula K. LeGuin, but she's not supposed to tell people that. XD

Capture them and devour them.

I helped fold election envelopes for Science Fiction/Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) and ended up stuffing an envelope to her. It made my day, although I forgot to look at where she lived, but I'm not the stalker type anyway. smile

I only author that I've met is Maria V. Snyder, author of the Poison Study series. She's an amazing person! Read her books if you haven't!

Hmmmm, I would love to meet Sara Douglass (author of The Wayfarer Redemption series) and Fiona McIntosh (author of The Quickening Trilogy).

Most of my favorite authors are either dead or live overseas (J.K. Rowling, Terry Pratchett). I have met Wendy & Richard Pini (Elfquest) and Margaret Weis (Dragonlance). I would like to meet Sharyn McCrumb (St Dale) but she hardly leaves the two or three state area around where she lives.

One of my teachers apparently writes feminist sci-fi novels. But I can't find any of her work in the bookstore. >_>

At my school, we get to meet an author every year who talks about his/her books, writing and being an author in general. This year it was Katarina von Bredow and last year it was Magnus Nordin. I haven't read their works, so it wasn't very special for me. Although Nordin had a sense of humour, so he was kinda funny to talk with.

Authors I would like to meet? I have to say Eoin Colfer, Terry Pratchett, Sören Olsson and Anders Jacobsson (the latter ones are Swedish authors who co-write, so I bet no one of you have heard of them. They write comedy, it's usually very simple stories about teenagers' every-day life, but damn, they're really hilarious! They were the ones who made me want to become an author in the first place). I would add Douglas Adams to the list if he was still alive.

i've not actually "met" authors, we had them at school. But the books they had written sucked, no offense to them.

I want to meet soooo many. Like J.K. Rowling (of course), Stephenie Meyer, Tamora Pierce, Jennifer Allison (Gilda Joyce), L.A. Meyer(Bloody Jack), and soooo many more that I can't seem to remember confused

When I worked at Boarders there were just a couple of authers that came through. No one I was interested in. But the one guy did an entire Civil War report on how it effected Cincinnati (where I live) and it was utterly fascinating. Many people came and sat for that. Another guy came and NOT ONE person bought his book. It was on successful marriage and when he left he was crying. The sadly funny thing was that he had just gotten a divorce.

There is another author that would come in and ask the information desk where her book was and then when it wasn't in the spot where she thought it should be she would reveal the fact that she was the author and then demand to speak to the manager.
