I would like to make a thread on behalf of one of my favorite genres of music, classical!
Discussion What is your favorite period? Composer? Do you play an instrument? Anything else related to classical music.

Starting us off...
Favorite classical period: Romantic and Modern Composer: Shostakovich Instrument: Viola (which I play, naturally wink ) Other: I play symphonic and chamber music, but I prefer the latter, especially string quartets. Solo music is fun, but I don't really like performing alone. It's so nerve-wracking.

>> Only the blackest of heartsYeah, I avoid solo performance as much as possible, but I had to play the organ once back in... -clicks tonuge- fifth grade, I wanna say, solo. The only reason I said Giuseppe was because he wrote the Violin Sonata in G minor (or Devil's Trill Sonata, as it is better known). Can feel the purest of love <<

My friend is going to music school as a pipe organist. ^_^ She also plays bass, bassoon, and piano...
Alas, I can only claim to play one instrument.

What is your favorite period? Romantic Composer? To listen to, it's a tie between Mahler and Wagner. To play, it's a tie between Vivaldi, Haydn, and Ravel Do you play an instrument? My primary is violin, but I am versed in all string instruments, piano, voice, and some others... I think... Anything else related to classical music. I think I've said it before somewhere else in this guild, but I'm a music teacher in training. I'm currently studying Smetena's "From the Homeland" piece on violin (the intro is a b***h to get in character and in tune at the same time) and a Telemann viola concerto alongside the Bach cello suites for viola. I love rehearsing with the university symphony, but I hate performing solo. I just don't like to be in the limelight like that (which is a shame, because juries are coming up soon). I love helping others out when it comes to music, and if anyone has any humane ideas on how to get middle schoolers to stop collapsing their wrists for violins, violas, and cellos, let me know.

It's pretty and fun to play.

>> Only the blackest of heartsYeah, half the reason I like the Sonata is because of the story - and I'll check them out next time I am out at the store. Can feel the purest of love <<

Favorite Composer: Bach and Beethoven [Bach for pretty much everything and Beethoven specifically for that wonderful piece 'Fur Elise.']
Instrument: I "play" the piano. I can barely say that, though, as I can't read notes beyond the simple right-hand 'e-g-b-d-f' and 'f-a-c-e' concept. I simply memorize the songs I'm able to learn. I wish I could read notes though and also play the harpsichord.
I can only play Fur Elise, Hungarian Dances, Chopsticks, Happy Birthday, La Cucaracha, and part of Moonlight Sonata on the right hand. Not left. I've a light-up keyboard. xD

That's pretty good I suppose, I tend to do that - learn the pieces I like rather then learn everything from the beginning skill levels to the end (the only things I did that for were holiday songs I had to play for chorus - yeah, chorus - go figure).

yeah, that always works. but im sure playing it on the keyboard is much easier than the flute XD to get a high C (i mean the second C above the staff) is easier on keyboard cuz you just push a key.... my flute, however, does not like this note. especially when played in quick succession with the high notes around it.... its taken me two weeks to be able to get all the notes in that ONE MEASURE to come out clearly and to be played at a fairly normal tempo.... but no where NEAR what its supposed to be ;_; this is gonna take a while
