Hello and Welcome to the Guild!

There are a few Rules to abide by, but other than that, feel free to have fun and discuss anything that interests you.

RULES

1.This guild is for IN-DEPTH discussion, so please do not post a topic and never reply to ANY of the responses. If you are going to respond, please check previous responses to make sure you are not just reiterating what someone else said. If you have more to add, then quote them and add to their post. If you are the original poster...please check your topic! You are responsible for thanking and talking to the people who give you advice!

2. NO FLAMING. I can't always be on the guild and I don't necessarily read every post. If you find people who are flaming or harrassing others, please send me an email with a link to the post and the name of the flamer. I WILL take care of these as promptly as I can. If you are caught flaming you will be given one warning. You will be added to the blacklist in this thread. A second offence will result in banning, no questions asked. Flaming WILL NOT be tolerated. This guild is intended as a safe place for open discussion. You are more than welcome to share your opinion, but remember...it is YOUR opinion. Not everyone will agree with you.

3. Keep your advice friendly and pertinent, and PLEASE make sure to separate OPINION from fact. If you believe something, please make sure that is clear from something you know. Any links to sites with pertinent information may be included in your post and if I find especially helpful ones, I may add them to the links page. Please do not tell people to check other threads in this guild for advice about their issue. Everyone has unique questions and concerns for their particular problem and I want to make sure everyone has a chance to ask THEIR question.

4. Please make ALL posts coherent, clear, and specific. Any posts that could be thought of as "n00bish", aka "I was wondering what a bf is", will be deleted. This is an extended forum of Life Issues, and I want to keep discussion intelligent. Therefore, no trolling.

5. NO COMP SPEAK. Period. Try hard to make yourself sound educated and intelligent. I understand typos, but no abbreviations or use of numbers in place of words. It doesn't take that much to capitalize, spell correctly, use good grammar, and use punctuation. It will only help people take you more seriously in here anyway. You are more likely to give good advice to someone you have some respect for rather than someone you feel is a complete idiot. So try to make it look good.

6. Please limit quoting. If someone has a very long first message, try to pull out the important parts to quote. Try to keep your quotes to six lines or less as a guideline. And NO page-stretching. It is annoying, I will just delete your posts and it makes it hard to read the posts.

7. DO NOT post links to other topics on this website. If you are interested in reposting something from the Life Issues subforum, please copy-paste it in here. If there are relevant responses you would like to include, feel free to respond to your own topic quoting those. Again...it is a simple copy paste. IF you post a link to another topic here, your post will be deleted. If you have found an interesting and relevant article and would like to post it, please post the link in the Link Sticky, then PM me. I will review the link and make sure it is appropriate for the forum. Links are welcome and appreciated.

8. Sex and other such topics are for MATURE discussion. If you can't handle being mature about a subject, please don't post. And don't post saying you don't know. Those posts are pointless and unhelpful. If you are posting just to earn gold, please take it to the chatterbox. Make your posts valuable to the person who asked for help. If you are uncomfortable talking about sex, please do not go into those posts. You have been forewarned that these topics contain MATURE SUBJECT MATTER. Please follow Gaia ToS when posting, but please feel free to ask relevant and important questions in your post.

9. If you are interested in setting up an "ASK ME" thread, please PM me. Please be a regular poster in the guild (over 25 good, relevant advice posts) before requesting a sticky and PM me links to your advice posts. We will then negotiate setting up your own sticky. The application will be posted in another sticky with further explanations. Please do not post "ASK ME" threads in this guild. This is intended to run similar to the Life Issues Subforum.

10. Donations are gladly accepted to keep this guild running smoothly. Please send any donations to LI-Extended, the guild mule, or feel free to send them to anyone who you think has been especially helpful. Please see the Donations Announcement for more information.

On the Issue of Moderators


I have had a number of people recently express an interest in becoming a moderator in the guild. I am now in the process of looking for 2, and only 2 at this time, people to help me run the guild, take care of flamers, offer expert advice, run contests, and keep up interest in the guild. If you are interested, fill out the application and PM it to me. DO NOT POST IT HERE. Failure to complete the ENTIRE application will result in decreased chances of your being picked as a mod. Inability to use entirely proper grammar and spelling on the application will be an automatic disqualification and it is highly unlikely I will take the time to consider your application if you do not take time to write it. Please do not waste my time and I will not waste yours.

DUTIES OF A MOD

Before applying, please take some time to read all the duties and requirements of the job. Please do not exceed these duties, for I will ban you if you abuse the power I give you. However, failure to complete all the jobs assigned will also result in my reconsidering appointing you for the position.

1. You MUST check in on the guild at least three times a week (three separate days). If you are not able to be on at three different times, please refrain from applying. I need a moderator who can help manage the daily topics that go on and who can help me keep track of people in here. I am hoping for a Monday, Wednesday, Friday Mod and a Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday Mod. Sunday would be an open day. I'm not saying these are the only times you can moderate or that we can't work to accomodate your schedule. But my goal is to have a moderator in here at least once a day. More, obviously, is useful!

2. You will be responsible for helping moderate the black list. You MUST PM me a direct copy of the post after placing a person on the blacklist. I need to know the reason you choose to put the person on the blacklist. You will also be responsible for PMing them to let them know they have been put on the blacklist. I will ask that the first few PMs you send out to members you also PM to me so I may check them.

3. You are responsible for helping stimulate discussion in topics. I am assuming you are already a frequent poster and I want you to start responding to a variety of posts here, not just the original topic. DO NOT delete any topics without permission from me first, but you are responsible for letting me know about topics which do not follow the rules and regulations laid out in the first post.

4. You MUST fill out the entire application. I would also like you to make sure that you read ALL the rules and requirements posted in this thread. Therefore, although I do not include it in the application, I want you to give me a summary of rule number five, briefly in one to two sentences. This is to make sure you not only read these rules before applying to become a mod, but also that you have read the other rules. Further I would like you to submit your application in blue. If you forget, you may PM me to let me know you forgot to reset the color to blue, but you must PM me within one day of submitting your application. Any applications not received in blue, or followed by an explanatory message, will not be highly regarded. Please PM me with any questions regarding this.

5. You will be helping me in gathering more members for the guild. While I don't want you to shove it down their throats, watch for helpful people in LI who you think would make good members of the guild. PM me their username and link to the post you found from them. I would love for you to advertise the guild in your sig, but that is not a requirement. I do want to expand membership though, so your help recruiting new members (nicely) is always helpful.

6. You will be helping me watch for topics where the original poster wants their post removed. If they have posted [delete] in the thread or deleted their original post, please PM me the link to the thread so I may delete the thread.

7. You will be responsible for reading through posts and making sure no one is flaming or attacking other people. I am also going to make a KUDO list for people who have posted highly helpful posts or pieces of advice. If we can get some good fundraising going, I will be possibly giving awards to people on the KUDOs list. As a moderator, it will be part of your job to help me work out ideas for the guild, such as a KUDOs list or contests to spark interest. We will have a PM meeting monthly so you can give me updates on the guild and any ideas you've come up with. We will set a date for you to PM me your comments, not that you can't PM me at other times, but I want an update at least once a month.

Yes, this is a long application, but it is to encourage people to fully understand how important this job is to me, so only people who are seriously interested in the job will apply. I would appreciate if you copy this into a Word document, since I expect exceptionally good grammar and spelling and it may help you. On "Ask Me" Stickies


I've noticed in LI, a lot of people enjoy posting, "Do you have a problem? Come here and tell me and I'll give you advice". While I understand why Gaia does not want this in the LI Subforum, I think it could be beneficial to our members here in the guild. Sometimes it feels awkward to post a topic here, and if you can ask a person who may have a bit of expertise in a subject, it might be more helpful. Thus the reason for the creation of "Ask Me" stickies...or subforums, if this becomes particularly popular.

Duties involved with Opening an "Ask Me" Sticky


1. You must be able to check your sticky at least once a day for new messages. If you are unable to get on at least once a day (or once every two days), I must ask you to refrain from applying for this job. A person running their own sticky must be as available as possible. Obviously, if people aren't posting in the guild that frequently, we'll decrease the amount of time needed.

2. You need to fill out a completed application. This must be submitted to me prior to your being assigned a sticky in which to conduct your "Ask Me" column. Use of proper grammar and spelling will increase your chances of being assigned a sticky.

3. I ask that you not ask people to PM you for your Ask Me sticky. Please conduct all business in the Ask Me sticky. If you do want to conduct further conversation through PMs, please do so, but please do not make it part of your business as a Advisor in this guild.

4. Please be up on some of the latest articles and information concerning life issues, inlcuding, but not limited to, birth control, suicide prevention, pregnancy, cutting, depression, dating, etc. I would like everyone who applies to have a stockpile of good websites to be helpful. For ideas, visit Nikolita's guild, The Teen Sex and Pregnancy Guild. For any controversial topics, I want you to have back-up support, and also good links for pepole to visit to further their search for answers. I know this is a lot to ask, but you will be seen as an expert in the guild and I want to make sure that you have information to back up your advise in case people have more questions.

5. You must write clearly and properly in order to be considered for this position. I will not accept anyone who has a history of writing in Comp Speak or other abbreviations. You need to be respected and seen as an expert in this guild and I will need to see proof that you can act as a professional. In this, I also ask that you separate your OPINION from the FACTS you have read. If I see you spouting too many of your opinions as facts, your sticky will be removed.

6. You must be a constant poster in this guild to be considered (at least 30 posts). I need to see your advice that you give and know that you are responsible and professional in your replies.
