If a city could be defined as a family, the Backroads would be the deep, dark secret, the black sheep that the gleaming pristine other family members try to hide with a forced laugh and a smile.
It's a shady area, not as bad as people make it out to be but not a good place to be, nonetheless, with trash and sewer water running in places. It's a home for the homeless, the victim, the criminal--or it could just be a place for people to go to when they need it. Akagane was glad she had such a place. She sighed, huddling into the little blankie her master had given her that day when she had left for class. She had whined and cried and begged her not to leave again, what if the mean people came back? Her master had only smiled sadly. "I'd never let anyone hurt you, she'd assured the poneko, and smiled. "But why don't you go out and make some friends, luvly? You can't hang out in here all day. Aren't you curious about others? Well, she was, not that she'd admit that. So now she was sitting here, shy, with no other place to go except...here.
...Well, what now?

 Kacy walk down the dirty water with trash lining the walls. She made a discusted face as the smell of sewer hit her noise. 'Ewww.....' she thought as she continued walking along. She had spotted a little poneko child run down this alleyway. The child had dropped a bright red ball and she wanted to return it. She sighed as she looked around but spotted none in sight. "Where could she have gone?" she asked herself as she walked on.

Akagane's ears pricked up as she heard someone coming, and she grew terrified, her ears flattening against her head. With a terrified whimper she scrambled behind a nearby dumpster and watched as....
She was shocked. This person. It was...like...like her? Saltski hadn't said anything about there being...others. Others like her.
She had no idea what else to do. Except watch. And...wait.

Kacy looked around and still didn't spot anyone. She sighed and kept walking. "Hello? Is anyone here?" she called out. She felt better talking out loud. At least it took her mind off the fact that she was in a dark alley by herself with noone else to see if something bad happened to her.

Akagane sighed. It was true, then; she'd get nothing out of being here, out of hiding. Maybe if she did come out it would scare bad people away.
"I'm right here," the poneko called, padding out from behind the dumpster a little and pressing herself against the wall shyly. She held her hands to her arms and rubbed them, as though trying to be rid of an almost permenant chill that sent ice through her veins and made her cold.
"...Who are you?" Why do you look like me...?

Kacy looked at the poneko in shock. "My name is Kacy." she quickly said. "You are a poneko right?" she asked as she saw her rubbing her arms for warmth. She quickly took her red top of and handed it to her. "Here. You can take this since you are cold." she said with a warm smile as she handed it to her. "What is your name?" she asked.

Akagane almost didn't take it, almost said she was fine--then suddenly a gale blew and she shivered, taking the top without hesitation, trying to fight back enroaching hysteria. "....thank you."
poneko..."....Is...is that what you're called?" What...what I am?"
She snapped back to attention quickly. "Ah! M-my name...it's Akagane," she said shyly, averting her eyes a little to the side.

"Nice to meet you Akagane." Kacy replied with a nod. "Yes....We are poneko, but your tail is different from mine." she said as she showed Akagane her tail. There was just a round circle at the end. "You must be a very special poneko since you have a heart on your tail." she voiced with a smile. She looked down at her hands and still found the ball there. She had almost forgotten why she was here in the first place.

"...Your tail...." She smiled a little. "It's just like a little round ladybug beetle," she said, looking cheerful for once, and taking the bauble in her hands. "Or like a little daifuku cake," she mused, a small smile blossoming on her face. She wondered if her master had wandered down to the Japanese grocery store--they were running low on the sweets and she was beginning to hunger for a little bit more.
She looked up, though, at Kacy's reply. "No, I--I'm just the same as you all--! I mean, I look a little bit different, but--I...we...." Great. She had met one of her kind and now she was acting like a child. Way to go, Akagane.

"A daifuku cake?" Kacy questioned. "Are those good? I have never had one before." She stated. She smiled as she saw Akagane in a lighter mood. She giggles as she heard her try to protest the statement that she had made. "It's alright I understand." Kacy replied.

Akagane's face brightened tellingly at the mention of her favorite sweet. "You don't know what daifuku is??! It's...oh, it's like--you have to try it!!!"
Without further adieu she took Kacy's hand and started dragging her along the streets, brightly telling her of the happy things and delicious treats the Japanese made--the best of all being, of course, the daifuku cake. "It's made of mochi and anko and covered in flour and it's soooooo~delicious~!" she trilled, mouth watering at the mere thought.

Kacy let out a little squeek as Akagane grabbed her and dragged her off. She tried to avoid stepping on trash as much as she while Akagane told her about the different Japanese foods. "It sounds yummy by the way you describe it." Kacy replied with a giggle. Akagane seemed child like to her, but in a good way.

Akagane nodded tellingly. "Yup! My master introduced it to me! That's why she named me Akagane, because she likes Japanese culture and food! She even studied Japanese for a little while, and--oh! Here we are~~" she trilled as she stopped in front of a Japanese foods vendor. "Ohayou Gozaimasu! Chotto...two daifuku, onegaishimasu!" She squealed as the man handed her a pink and a white rice cake. "Arigatou gozaimashita~~~" she squeed, and held the two out to Kacy. "You try them!" she offered. "Choose one!"

"Your owner sounds like an interesting person. I'd like to meet her sometime." Kacy said with a nod. She looked at the daifuku cakes in deep thought. "Alright." She sadi and grabbed the pink daifuku cake. She took a bite into it and smiled. "This is really good." she said. She took another small bite.

Akagane was halfway through her cake when she finally registered what Kacy said.
"Myuu?" she asked, cocking her head. "You sound surprised!" she exclaimed, leaning forward with a pout. "You should not be surprised! Daifuku is a delicious and sweet and nutritious sweet that is very good!"
Then she blushed. "I-I'm sorry," she said, averting her eyes. "That was uncalled for."
