HearT of DarknessSWhat greatness had not floated on the ebb of that river into the mystery of an unknown earth! Within even the most civilized, docile human beings, there is a latent animal-like rage that can show itself at the slightest provokation. Most teach themselves to surpress it, patting themselves on back for such a show of self-control, calling anyone who gives in to it a barbarian. However, others gladly embrace it, priding themselve on tapping into the ultimate source of human strength, living up to the real potential of humanity, finding the Heart of Darkness.
Though often regarded as backwards war mongers, the Spartans used, even required the use of, that animalistic passion. With weakness and intellectual endeavors frowned upon, strength - in both men and women - was the most desirable attribute. Yet, order was always maintained. It truely was the perfect balance of organized skill and chaotic passion.

HearT of DarknessSWhat greatness had not floated on the ebb of that river into the mystery of an unknown earth! One Do not take the photo in the first post. It is mine, and frankly I don't think it's good enough to steal anyway. Just don't!
Two: I like to keep up a certain degree of quality. I would like one good, well developed paragraph as a minimun. Minimun, that means I would LOVE more most of the time.
Three: In case you haven't noticed, this thread has nothing to do with the Conrad novella of the same title. It's about Sparta. Therefore, please at least have basic knowledge about the culture. That's what wikipedia is for.
Four: Gaia has a PG-13 rule. Period.
Five: Please, use descriptions instead of pictures in you profiles. Not only does it show your writing skills, but linking to pictures without permission is ILLEGAL. Now, you are more than welcome to have one accompany a description if it's something you did yourself, or if you have explict permission from the artist. ^^
Six: I'm thinking of capping it off at ten players. This may change based on levels of interest.

HearT of DarknessSWhat greatness had not floated on the ebb of that river into the mystery of an unknown earth!Profiles: PM these to me! And remember, originality is your friend. This is a cliche-free zone.
Spartans: 1.Username: Beta Pleated Sheet Character name: Audrid Spartan or outsider? If outsider, where from? Spartan Age: 25 Gender: Female Appearance: Audrid seems to be all angles. Her body is narrow, and devoid of all but the most subtle curves. Her feature are sharp, though she possesses a strange, harsh sort of beauty. The only softness in her appearance is a calm warmth in her eyes. Like nearly everyone of Greccian decent, her skin is lightly sun-kissed, and her hair is dark and wavy. Personality: Audrid carries herself with a vinegar aura, marked by a quickness to crticize and a caustic tongue. While far from being a shrew, she does have a bit of difficulty in holding her tongue. Brief bio: Like most Spartan girls, Audrid was raised with the hope of bearing strong sons, but after six years of marriage and not a single child to show for it, she gave up on that dream and silently labelled herself "barren." Understandably, she habors a great deal of envy toward anyone who has a family of their own, a privilege she was so harshly denied. 2. 3 4. 5. 6. 7.

Silence. Audrid hated silence, even in a moment that most would consider serene and calming. Beyond the gentle hills and sharp cliffs, the golden sun was beginning to rise, slowing replacing the inky blackness of night with its warm, orange-yellow glow. So far, the increase in light had been subtle, as if the darkness tried to tarry around as long as it could before it was overpowered by brightness. Beneath her bare feet, fresh dew clung to the unruly blades of grass, soaking her feet as well as the hem of her cream-colored dress. However, this environment was anything but calming. The silence was too complete, too perfect. Perfection was a lie - even in nature - yet nothing disturbed this unsettling silence. No wind, no animals, nothing.
Something would break it eventually. Something had to. Whether it was the call of a wild bird, an animal scurrying in the grass, the approaching footsteps of another human, silence could not be maintained forever. There seemed to be no escaping it. She was unable to sleep the night before, so, acting more on a impulse than reason, she elected to wander out instead of lie awake for hours. Nature, however, seemed to provide no more interest than the deadness of her dark bedroom.
Finally, it came. A sudden, though light, gust of wind rustled through her dark hair, sending it into a whirling mess around her head and making her skirt dance softly around her ankles. It was gone as quickly as it came. A stronger and longer lasting distraction would have been far more comforting, but she was grateful for it none the less. Her surroundings were not so eerily perfect as they had seemed, and that was all she needed to know for the time being.
And the silence was back, though now it wasn't nearly as disturbing as before. Audrid was far from feeling calm or relaxed, so there was no point in returning home just yet. An uneasy mind discouraged sleep, that was nearly common knowledge. Not to mention that there would be no time for it, even if she was in the mood to do so.
Without a single thought about the dew on the ground, she sat down, placing her weight on the side of one leg. As the cold moisture began to seep through the thin cloth of her dress, she once again began to long for a distraction from the silence. Surely there would be another.
