This is the revised version of my thread on Lamb Of God.
Lamb Of God formed in 1990 when Mark Morton, Chris Adler and John Campbell were all floormates at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, though they practiced mostly at Chris' house where they braved harsh cold due to a lack of actual central heating writing and practicing metal songs (Only as instrumental). After graduation, Mark moved to Chicago to obtain a Master's Degree and was replaced by Abe Spear and added Randy Blythe on vocals. At this point they were known as Burn The Priest and became a fixture of the Richmond music scene. Not long afterward Mark returned and began to play for the band again and shortly thereafter signed to Legion Records and released their self-titled debut. A few months later, Abe quit the band and Chris Adler's brother Willie took over as the guitarist. The line up has not changed since. In 2000, they signed to Prosthetic Records and changed their name to Lamb Of God. That same year they released their debut under the name Lamb Of God. This album was called
New American Gospel. After touring for two and a half years gaining notoriety and such, they released the critically acclaimed album
As The Palaces Burn. The album received the coveted Album Of The Year in Revolver & Metal Hammer magazine as well as gaining more notoriety in Rolling Stone and Entertainment Weekly. Later in 2003, the band released a commercially successful DVD entitled
Terror & Hubris and featured videos for 2 of the bands most popular songs: "Ruin" and "Black Label". In 2004 after more touring, the band released their major hit album,
Ashes Of The Wake. This album once again met with huge success and won "Best Album" in Revolver magazine. Guitar World magazine also handed the band numerous awards including "Best Album". The Video for "Now You've Got Something To Die For" won best video on MTV's Headbanger's Ball. The game Guitar Hero II features the song "Laid To Rest" which is found on this album.
Ashes Of The Wake has also been certified Gold by the RIAA. In 2005, the band released a Live CD/DVD combo called
Killadelphia. This album has also gone Gold. In August 2006, they released their heaviest album to date,
Sacrament. This album did extremely well debuting at #8 on the Billboard charts and even spawned the Grammy Nominated single: "Redneck". All band members agree that writing that album was very tough as it deals with heavy issues like suicidal depression, addiction, alcoholism, greed, hypocrisy, and other tough subjects. Lamb Of God continues to tour.
