Who here has made an attempt at or completed the infamous "Legacy Challenge"? This thread is dedicated to discussing all things reguarding the LC. Post your stories, pictures, questions... whatever.
"What the heck is the Legacy Challenge?" you ask? This was a challenge posted by Pinstar1161 on the BBS forum on Oct. 23, 2004. The craze spread like wildfire throughout the simming community. The basic idea is to create the strongest family possible in 10 generations based on the rules and scoring system. You start with one sim, either made by you or maxis, your choice. They move into an empty 5x5 lot and start their life. You CANNOT use cheats, and your sims CANNOT marry anyone except NPCs and Townies. One child from each generation MUST continue to live on the lot, the other children may move out.
Where can I find more information about the Legacy Challenge? Pinstar1161 has created a web page dedicated to the rules, strategies, and scoring system. I suggest you take a peek at that! www.LegacyChallenge.com

None of the poll options fit me. xd I just never cared to try it. That's just not the way I like to play my sims personally. If I ever run out of things to do, maybe I'll try it but it won't be anytime soon.

I had that as an option the first time I tried to make the post, but it didn't like me so I had to re-type the whole thing. I guess I forgot that one the second time around. redface I like playing the legacy challenge, but i'm not really doing it to count points, i'm doing it to force myself to diversify. With their aspirations being chosen by the roll of the dice it keeps me from just making them all family sims. And with the quest for 10 generations, it pushes me to play a family past the 2nd generation... I always hated letting my sims die, but that's a part of life! Like I said, I just like how it makes me push the envelope, and makes things a little more challenging.

The Legacy Challenge was originally posted on the Sims2 Offical BBS by Pinstar1161. Since then it has become famous as the most popular user-created-challenge. There are many many MANY versions of the rules and scoring system so I suggest you seach "Legacy Challenge" threads on the BBS by the author Pinstar1161 to get the original posts. He has also created updated versions of the challenge to include aspects from the new expansions. But basically, the idea is to start of with one sim (either from CAS or one of the Premades that only have 20000) Move them into an empty 5x5 lot, and try to get the family through 10 generations without cheats, and only marrying townies. One child from each generation must continue to live on the lot... they may NOT move the family home to another lot. There is an extensive scoring system to rate yourself with others who've tried the task and several threads on the BBS dedicated to listing those scores. I've chosen to document the lives of my legacy family and post them on my simpage if anyone cares to read about them! cool I enjoy comments! http://thesims2.ea.com/mysimpage/mysimpage.php?user_id=19251

It sounded like fun so I started today. Its not as hard as I thought. Though I have already lost some points. My sims husband... keeps having some mental issues because they are poor.
My question is. Is the sim you make the first generation, or is the child of your made sim the first generation?

the sims you made is the 1st generation... and the child he has will be the 2nd generation. and then the game "ends" right after the first 10th generation child is born. At least that's when you add up your score. I haven't been keeping score on mine... mostly because I branched out and for every sim that was born from my legacy sim, Marla Biggs, I am continuing to follow their lives and write their stories. I really gotta get back to playing! I've only played once in the last week and a half or so... stupid fishing game *shakes fist* why must you be so addictive?! gonk

I've never heard about it until now. I'll have to give it a try after/during getting through a couple generations of my favorite sim now. I've had Sims2 for a while now, and I've never actually had any sims settle down into a family setting because I never really stayed with sims for that long. So the legacy challenge will really be a challenge for me (in both theory and time). (X

I'm not scoring because I'd be in the negatives due to my first generations father being a nutcase, and having issues.

As soon as I get internet I will upload my legacy family generation by generation onto my sims page. I would do it all at once, but I don't know if it would let you, or if I'll have the bandwith to do it.

I have a little notbook now that I'm keeping track of the marriages, children, careers, interest, and personalities of each sim in the family. helps me find topics that they both want to talk about... and just helps me get to know my sims better. That helps me develop their stories better too.

I'l send them off to college, but they all wind up being the same age because I don't leave my legacy house. I haven't send any of my heirs off to college because it takes too long. Maybe like the last one or something.

well you could send them there and then go to the university and have them drop out and move back... that's skips that whole pesky teenage stage. i usually send my kids to college the day they become a teen. it sets you up for living great grandparents on occassion though. (which is realistically possible. i knew 3 of my great grandparents as i was growing up... didn't loose the last one until april of last year actually. he was 96! eek anyway) also, to rush things along, i usually grow children up a day early. you can have a party for them up to 24 hours before they automatically change stages. so i am usually already having the party when the pop up message tells me its time to buy a cake. i just take that as, "it's time to blow out the candles". I have missed a few of my kid's birthdays on accident, when things get hectic... babies especially cause you can't tell how long they have left. rolleyes

(darn ghosts... scaring my sims to death). I am sending each one to college. So that they can make more money.
