“Hey have you heard about the new girl in Zach’s class Carolynn?” Sarah looked up from her book as angel started up her latest gossip. I started swapping books for my next class, not to intent at listening to Angel’s “gossip”. “I heard her hair is the color of blood.”

“I don’t think anybodies hair can be that red Angel. The students at this school tend to over exaggerate much.” Sarah placed her page and shoved the book neatly back into her bag.

“I wasn’t trying to be scientific about it. Like I was saying, she’s only been here for a couple of days but some people are already hating on her. Ill figure that mystery out later.” She unraveled a piece of chewing gum, stuck it in her mouth then offered some more to us. Both of declined at the offer and she shrugged and put the pack away. By that time, I was already down getting the rest of my lovely crap as I like to put it. “But I heard she even looks drugged up.”

“Angel, you shouldn’t talk about people like that if you’ve never even met the person. She’s probably very nice.” I said turning around. “I have to start heading to class. The traffic in the halls still hasn’t cleared up either.” Angel picked up her side bag as Sarah began to walk away.

“Catch you later, Carolynn.” Sarah shoved her way past the stand still crowd and joined the stream of other students, Angel tagging along still talking. I looked over the crowds bobbing heads to find one of the doors not being used at all. I struggled but did manage to get to the other side and take one step outside when a huge boy appeared behind me from the crowds looking particularly mad. I felt a big hand grab my right shoulder and I was suddenly jerked to the side roughly. I stumbled backwards and landed in the lap of the person sitting at the closest table. I heard a soft yelp and I quickly got up of her and apologized quickly without looking back. I didn’t want to lose sight of the jerk that had just pushed me.

“Hey jerkwad, watch where you’re lugging yourself.” I yelled while flipping him the bird. Though usually quiet, when angered I tend to go a little overboard. The big guy grunted and swung around and stomped over to where I was standing. I happened to look at his ID before it slipped back in her shirt. Jason, a 12 grader.

“You got something to say to me brat?” I immediately shut my mouth. If I had known he was a senior I would have kept my mouth shut. I stood there for a couple of minutes before taking a step back, hearing the person behind my stand up briskly. The senior waved his hand dangerously close to my face. “Hey I was talking to you…”

“hey yourself. Just go to class Holmes.” The senior turned to see Zach walking out the door. The senior mumbled something about the crowds being to big and walked off to where he was originally heading before. Zach turned back around and looked at me. “And you. Could you possibly stand out anymore?”

“I could always wear a bright neon-colored yellow hat.”

“Weirdo. But I like that in my girlfriends.” I’d just started bending down to pick up a book I had dropped unseeingly but stood back up and got step closer to him and huffed loudly. I was already flustered enough from the senior.

“GOD, I’m not your girlfriend. I already told you no a couple hundred times already.”

“Woah! Calm down. I’ll change you mind sooner or later because it was love at first sight. You just don’t want to admit to it yet.” He laughed and started walking away. He raised his hand. “You’ll see.”

“No I won’t!! There’s no such thing as love at first sight!!” I shouted back at him. He laughed again and walked off leaving me flustered. I grumbled a bit before I heard a soft cough from behind. I starkly turned around and faced a girl that was just a little taller then me. I was completely mesmerized for a moment. The girls rust colored wavy hair was spilling around her neck and back, still wet from what must have been a morning shower. The hair left a border for her jaw which led right up to her eyes. Her eyes were lit up in such a way that they looked filled with a purple mist instead of the blue they obviously were or maybe it was jut the sun. I couldn’t decide.

“……dropped this.” I looked down at her out stretched hand, not quite hearing her comment. My book was firmly being grasped by her delicate fingers as she reached out to give it to me. I looked at it dumbfounded then shook my head.

“Oh my book! Sorry I didn’t catch what you were saying.” I quickly grabbed the book from her and stuffed it into my bag then blushed. I turned around for a minute or two. I wanted to know why I was blushing so bad. I blamed it on the hot morning sun. “You’re the girl I fell on when I first got outside aren’t you? I’m really sorry about that. I couldn’t catch my balance quickly enough.”

“Hmm it’s okay. You’re lightweight so it wasn’t much of a blow. Not to mention I’m a little bigger then you.” She said laughingly. I started to feel my cheeks fan out to an even brighter red and coughed meekly. I wondered if she was seeing my blush. I adjusted my book bag on my back then turned around to clear my head.

“I…I should get going. Maybe we’ll see each other in the hallway sometime, bye.” I said my lines quickly, almost too quickly, then dashed for the other door across the courtyard. I looked back around and the girl was still standing there. She did so for a few more minutes before grabbing the rest of her stuff and walking through the door. I looked down to the ground , smiled unknowingly to myself for a minute then dashed to my class before the tardy bell could ring.

I started up my homework as soon as I sat down in my seat in study hall. Well tried to at least. After the incident this morning and the meeting with the girl, I hadn’t been able to concentrate on anything but her. How she looked, how she moved or how she talked. Who was she? I wonder if she was the new girl Angel had been talking about. If so her gossip is totally wrong. I would have to talk to Angel about it later. Her hair wasn’t bad it all, in fact h=it was her selling point to me. Sure she looked a little tired but who wouldn’t be after transferring to a new school in the middle of the school year. I know I would be. My thoughts were interrupted as the girl from this morning came into the cafeteria and stood by the teachers at a lunch table. I was sitting in the back so I didn’t hear most of the conversation between her and the teacher. In the end, the teacher nodded and pointed toward the back where I was sitting and let her be on her way. The girl came forward and took the seat directly in front of me on the folding table. She took out a biology book and turned to chapter 2. I hadn’t noticed that I had been staring until she looked back up and smiled.

“So looks like we did meet up again, just like I said we would. Small school.” She nodded her head.

“Small world you mean.” She stuck out her hand and we shook across the table. “My name’s Georgia Sullie. I just moved here from Charleston.” I nodded and checked off on the list in my head about the new student idea. Now to just talk to Angel.

“Hmm mine’s Carolynn. Charleston, huh? What’s it like there?” Georgia sat there for a moment and I could have sworn I saw a flicker of mixed emotions cross her face. If it was, it vanished just a quickly as it appeared as she flicked her head to the side to get some loose strands of hair from out of her face. The sight sent a shiver running down my back. I was going to go crazy around this girl. She seemed to notice and shrugged quickly.

“It’s warm down there in the city, especially during the summer. During the winter we don’t get a lot of snow. Actually I don’t remember it snowing once all 9 years I lived there.” I snuffed a smile at that as she smiled back.

“that’s some Christmas you got there.” Georgia laughed at my expected remark. And nodded her head while she closed her eyes for a moment.

“Yeah. Rain, rain, presents...that’s always a good thing and then…” she leaned in and held her hand up as if to whisper a secret. “More rain! We were lucky that our backyard didn’t flood one time.”

“Jeez, that’s way to much rain for me to handle. Probably make me have to use the bathroom every two presents.” I laughed startling loud and her smile grew brighter. She shrugged.

“Uh huh. But I’m used to all sorts of weather.”

“Yeah you said you only lived in Charleston for 9 years. What about the rest?”

“My mom moved to Charleston a little after a year my parents got divorced. It was a little rough since I lost two all in one.” I winced at the sharp sadness in her voice. I had the sudden urge to make her smile again. The frown she was carrying was making me nervous.

“NEW YORK!! That’s like….snow capital.” We both laughed and she shook her head violently. I smiled inwardly at her lightened up face.

“Not really. The northern counties and Canada get way more snow then my little town every got. Not even a snow capital.”

“Hey it’s more then what South Carolina would ever get right. How do you like here in Greenville?” I went to go doodle on my math home work. I’d already drawn some of my famous characters and some snowmen because of the last subject. She tapped her pencil on the table a little.

“It’s nice weather up her and the view is awesome in some area’s. Then the people are the same as anywhere. Some aren’t nice. Then there are those who are.” She glanced up at me and I looked down to my drawing. “You know…you’re homework is so miserably incorrect.”

“Huh?” She pointed to the last one I had tried before she had walked in. I laughed nervously. “Yeah I really suck at math and it doesn’t help that I’ve been spacing out all day as well.” Of course I didn’t’ tell her it was actually her that I couldn’t get my mind off of, it would have made an awkward silence and I wanted to avoid that.

“Spaced out? About what?” She rested her chin on the tops of her hands and leaned against her elbows slightly. She smirked at me, which sent another wave of shivers running down my back.

“Oh just…I was just spaced out about people and other stuff.” I wanted to lead this conversation somewhere else fast. I’m not the one to change the subjects though because that makes me feel like they know I’m nervous.

“You mean about that boy from this morning? He seems to have the hots for you.” I flinched. That’s not where I wanted to bring the conversation either. I gave a deep- throated sigh and closed my obviously failing math homework. “Hmmm?”

“I know he likes me but I just don’t like him like that. I really do wish that he would get the picture and lay off.” She nodded understandingly. I took that as a sure go on ahead and keep talking so I finished my thoughts. “I n general though, guys are great but I just don’t seem to like them that way. I don’t feel that pull.” She had started chewing on the tip of her eraser but coughed after my comment. She eased the pencil down and looked at me with an emotion I can’t describe with words. Her silence started to fill me with a certain dread. Would she hate me because I just said that? Why had I just said that?

“Hmm. What do you like then…..?” I opened my mouth to let more air in and stared at her for a couple of seconds. Her eyes roamed my face as if trying to read my every move.

“What?” I squinted my eyes at how stupid I had just sounded. I understood her question perfectly. She blinked then leaned forward a little more, making me swallow nothingness.

“I asked what you did like.” The question startled me. Not because she had asked it but that I had no answer to it. I really didn’t know now that I was meant to think about it. Seriousness overtook our little conversation as all I could do was stare into her eyes as I tried to come up with an answer. The answer should have been obvious. I just wasn’t into boys right now. My parents and preacher all but drilled into my head the perfect wedding I was going to have when I grew older. But actually, it was as if I had never actually thought of it before. The thought of being with a guy other then in friend ship just didn’t bring much emotion up within me. I looked away then back at her. When I did, I felt strange. I felt something that I had never felt before. I couldn’t tell her that. In the end, I couldn’t look her in the eyes anymore and told her a lie. “I...I don’t understand what you mean.”

“Oh.” She sat up and sighed outwardly. She sat there looking at me as I was about to burst. She spoke up one more time. “Well, when you figure out my question and you have an answer, just tell me okay?” I opened my mouth to say something but nothing came out. Not even a squeak. So I shook my head in acknowledgment. The remainder of the period was agonizingly long to me. Not only because of the awkward silence that had formed but because I couldn’t stop thinking of an answer for her question. After a little while I laid my head down into the crook of my arm and closed my eyes to try and get rid of the headache that head begun to form. I was so into my own thoughts that I didn’t even notice the school bell ring. Georgia got up and shook me from my shoulder then walked toward the exit. I lifted my head, sat there and watched her leave before sitting alone with my thoughts.

tpo bad I feel out of the story line myself. I got bored with it fast. But the new one I'm writing for sure I will finish. It's just something I need to do.
