Der Rules: Posting 1) All posts must be written in past-tense. No exceptions. 2) If you tend to make a lot of spelling errors, use a spell check. 3) This is a *writing* RPG, so please use real words and full, adult-level sentences. 4) No one-line posts. We understand that sometimes you need to post quickly, especially to get things moving, but we'd like at least a short paragraph. 5) Use third person at all times (i.e. "She ate like the Donner Party after the Long Dry Drive," NOT "I ate like…"). 6) If you post a comment in the RPG thread, write "OCC" (out of character comment) before it. Also, for the sake of keeping the RPG thread for the RPG, if you want to make really long comments or strike up a conversation, please do it in the Chatterbox Subforum. That's what it's there for, after all. ^_^ 7) Don’t kill, maim, or move another person’s character without their permission.* If you’re writing a battle scene, instead of writing “Jimmy’s Hyper-Explode-o-Ray hit Billy-bob head-on, knocking him back ten paces,” just write “Jimmy threw a Hyper-Explode-o-Ray at Billy-bob” and let the other person decide if Billy-bob gets hit or dodges. And don’t be afraid to get hit once in a while, everyone! It keeps things interesting. ^_^ (Also, please don’t actually have an attack called “Hyper-Explode-o-Ray,” or Dee will ban you for eternity) *Small Exception to this Rule: If your character does something where death is really the only option (i.e. he runs into Church HQ with nothing but a flaming sword and his own idiocy), then I'm sorry, but s/he is going to die. We'll allow you to make a new character to replace them, but the moral of the story is, if you don't want your characters to die, then treat their lives with the respect you'd treat a real person's. 3nodding * 8 ) Real Life comes before posting, and obviously we understand that. However, that doesn’t mean you can just disappear for a month and leave your RP-buddies stranded. We’d like everyone to post at *least* once a week, and if you can’t manage that, then please e-mail one of your friendly neighborhood mods or write a post explaining that you’re busy, or *something.* If we don’t hear from you for three weeks, then your character will either be taken by another player or will disappear altogether. Sorry, but few-and-far-between posting is the leading cause of death in RPGs, and we’d like to prevent that if possible. 9) On a related note, if you’re going on vacation for any extended period of time, let us know, and put someone in charge of managing your character so the story can keep moving (don’t worry, we’ll try not to do anything extravagant to them while you’re away). 10) Regarding NPCs (Non-Player Characters). Um... we love 'em, so we see no reason why you shoudn't have them either. mrgreen They flesh out stories and help with character interaction. Servants, close friends, followers, family... Have fun with it, just make sure that they don't directly affect the main storyline. If they start to become major characters, we might PM you and request an official profile. 11) This is more a request than a rule, but please read the "World Timeline" and "Odds 'n' Ends" section, before posting. They're both really helpful for figuring out what's going on. Both of those are located in the "Database" Subforum, along with Character Profiles, the Descriptions of Races, and other nifty features. The FAQs section in the Database Subforum is really helpful, too. There's also a "Summary: The Story So Far" thread on the main forum so newcomers can quickly catch-up to what's going on.

Der Rules: Characters 1) No almighty, invulnerable, or annoyingly powerful characters. That isn't to say that you aren't allowed a powerful character or two, but you need to tell us (your friendly neighborhood mods) about the extent of your characters' powers in as much detail as possible. We also really like it when there are "normal" characters, or characters that aren't necessarily very strong. And for the record, it doesn’t matter how powerful you are, everything dies when you stab it in the heart or cut off its head. Everything. 2) To make sure nobody overloads themselves on characters, we’re limiting everybody to an initial maximum of four. If after a couple months you've demonstrated that you can handle those four, and you want to take on someone else, we'll let you do that. If the extra load gets to be too much for you, we'll suggest that you "kill off" somebody or turn them into an NPC or something. And, obviously, you don’t *have* to make four if you don’t want to – that’s just the cut-off point. 3) Your characters do not know everything. For example, unless there's a good, logical reason for your character to know about the inner workings of the Church, s/he doesn't. Also, if your character is a member of the Church, don’t be surprised if one of us sends you a nice little e-mail with some extra information. Not only will you feel privileged, but it’ll keep everyone on the same page, too ^_^ 4) We love physically beautiful characters as much as the next mod (we're certainly guilty of a few), but make sure that *all* of your characters aren't ridiculously pretty. That's just irritating to your fellow RPers. Remember, the world is made up of mostly average-looking people, so it makes the game better (not to mention far more interesting) when everyone isn't gorgeous. 5) If you have a non-human character, s/he MUST be based off of real mythology, even if it's loosely. We'd prefer it if you told us just where you got the idea for the race (the original mythological creature's country/culture of origin). 6) If you are the first person to create someone of a certain race, then – hooray! –you get to outline the specifics of that race. We aren't going to tell you, for instance, that vampires burn in the sunlight and can only drink human blood. You get to decide that. Then, everyone else who wants to create a character from that race will have to follow your basic guidelines. 7) Which brings me to the next rule…if you want to create a character who's a member of an already existing race, your character must follow the rules laid out for that race. If in doubt, contact the person who made the race, or talk to one of the mods. As people create more races, we'll make a file that details each of them. [NOTE: new wolf/dog-type races and new Japanese races have been temporarily banned due to overflow. We'll unban them again once we start getting more of a variety. Sorry guys!]8 ) Dragons are extinct, mostly slain by glory-seeking knights at the beginning of the Middle Ages. So, sorry, but no dragons. We also shy away from pixies, nixies, and fairies, but if you make a convincing argument we might change our minds on that one. 9) We like Japanese mythology, but make sure it's *real* Japanese mythology, not anime or manga. 10) We'd prefer it if your characters were ethnic-looking unless they've mixed a lot with other ethnic groups. For instance, if you choose to make someone based off of Chinese mythology, the person should look at least a little Chinese. Oh, and on that note... 11) This is a fantasy RPG, but it does take place in the real world, so unless it makes sense for your nonhuman character to have unusually colored hair, skin or eyes, keep them to the normal range of colors, please. Hair dyes do exist in this world, though, and certain types of Craft may be able to change eye colors if necessary, so there is some flexibility if you just can't live without a guy with blue hair. Just be aware that he might get stared at. sweatdrop mrgreen

Character Creation Template (Also Entitled: Yay! The Fun Part!) When in doubt, you can always contact a mod. We're nice, really, and we don't usually bite, scratch, or otherwise injure anyone who asks us questions. We like questions. Feel free to omit a section if it doesn't apply, such as the alias section. Also, items in italics are sections that will either be tweaked or omitted from your public profile. In the interest of keeping this as true-to-life as possible, we’re leaving everyone a little in the dark about everybody else. So, when you meet someone, you’ll actually have NO idea what sort of skills they might possess, what their history was like, and so on. Full Name: Aliases: Nicknames: Race: (the sky's the limit on this one folks!) Nationality: (It’s okay to use contemporary names of nations & cities for now; we’ll update the names when we get the profiles) Occupation/Rank: (Does this person have a position in society, or a specific job?) (Note: Sometimes this will be omitted from a profile, or "covered"by a layman's job if the occupation is something intensely top secret like being a Demon Slayer or a member of the Inquisition.) Gender: Age: (put their real age, and what age they “look,” especially if it’s drastically different) Height: Weight: (approximate) Hair: (style and color) Eyes: General Appearance: (build, face shape, clothes, anything else you can think of) (Note: If you’ve drawn a picture of your character, or have a picture on file that looks like your character, you can substitute that for a description. Just put the link here) Skills/Abilities: (any superhuman abilities and their extent, as well as any pertinent mundane skills and talents) Personality: History: (no need to write an epic, here; just give us the basics) Description of Race: (if you're the first to create anyone of this race; basic physical description, range of powers, country of origin, general habits, etc.) When you’re done making your character, please PM or e-mail either Rihga (itsthedee@gmail.com) or Pyskwynn (pyskwynn@gmail.com) your character information. We’ll read over it, make sure everything’s up to par, and then post it in the forum.
Also, so we can make sure that you’ve read all the happy rules, at the end of your profile, hit ‘Enter’ three times and then type “1337.” You may also follow this with a bad pirate joke and a cute emoticon of your choice, if you’d like.
