Hey everyone, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any Prog Metal songs where the lyrics and/or story of the song/album was based on historical events.

I'm just curious.

Thanks!

It's not THAT historical, btu it will be ten years from now. Dream Theater's song, Sacrificed Sons, is based on the 9/11 event. Really good. They have another one about the Vietnam war, but I don't quite remember the song title.

Yeah, Sacrificed Sons is a good one.
I'll have to look into that Vietnam one.

But yeah, this response (or lack of, lol!), though not what I hoped for, isn't really surprising for some reason. History isn't really what Progressive lyrics are about too often.

Thanks for thinking/looking anyway though. 3nodding

As far as i know there aren't any bands with real historical lyrics.

"Ayreon - The final Experiment" is historical, and tells you about Merlin and Arthur, but it did not happen for real.

Well, talking about Ayreon, some of the stuff on Universal Migrator part 1 are historical.. like that shooting marching band thing and all that.

If you consider Blind Guardian progressive, they´ve a lot of historical (or history inspired) lyrics.

What else... Hmm, Symphony X´s "V" is based on the Atlantis-tale (not really historical but might be interesting anyway).

Can´t think of others now, but I´m sure there´s more. I´ll get back to this once I have some time to think. biggrin

Not progressive metal, but The Final Cut by Pink Floyd is an entire concept album about warfare (World War II in particular, Roger Water's father died in World War II). It's an excellent album and I highly recommend it.

Yeah, that is a pretty good album.

I don't know of the new ones, but at least in the old Angra albums, they deal with some historical topics, ie. Caronina IV.
