*Egg 1: Swamp of Hidden Wealth Egg
This egg seems to sparkle somewhere beneath all of the muddy grime that one might first percieve. Any candidate who says, "How ugly. It looks like a swamp," and walks away might miss this elusive glimmer, but to the candidate who watches for longer, they might see a hint of gold glinting beneath the ooze, perhaps? A candidate reaching out their fingers to run their hands over this surcafe might at first expect to pull their hand back and find it covered in moss and dirty mud, but many candidates will recieve a shock when they realize that this eggshell is just as smooth as the others. Is that glinting beneath the surface really gold? Perhaps its the eyes of a predator, watching you. Eyes that glitter malevolently, as if gloating that *it* knows a secret that you don''t... perhaps you''d better walk away from this egg, before you succumb to the stare of that hidden predator...
*Egg 2: Stormy Dusk Egg
A casual onlooker might think that this egg is a beautiful egg, with bright, innocent hues. It''s beautiful, but not as inocent as one might think. The underlying lavender color looks like the color of the sky when dusk is just beginning to fall; pale and pretty, waiting patiently for the stars to emerge along the horizon. But violent slashes of aquamarine and green-blue have seeped across the firmament when Dusk wasn''t looking. As if a storm washing ashore, that sea-green and verdant color seems to be trying to block out the innocence of dusk. In the areas that are open but completely surrounded by the storm, Dusk, beneath, has faded to a darker color... as if she''s lost all will to fight. Both of these colors, the storm and Dusk, are shining brilliantly at anyone observing this silent skirmish. A candidate''s eyes might sting after staring at this egg too long. But who will win when the dragonet breaks free?
*Egg 3: Egg of Stained Glass Shadows
This egg seems pleasantly cool, as if it had been lying in the shade. Any candidate running his or her hand over this smooth shell might begin to dream of a favorite fantasy of Impressing a Queen dragonet and becoming the Jr Weyrwoman, or finding themselves with a King bondmate, leading a wing. However, this egg also appeals to the shy candidates, the ones simply wishing to fight that ancient nemesis, Thread. What might this egg contain? A green? A shadow? A scarlet, bronze, orange? Maybe a queen? The egg, rippling with wonderful hues of every shade, seems to mellow out along the base, becoming darker, as if the colors are blending together. It seems to be a comforting darkness, however, because those rainbow hues shine dully in the background, as if prepared to jump closer to the surface and continue the bright display once more.
*Egg 4: Echoing Dreams Egg
This egg has a band of white across it, the only thing interrupting the plain but pretty background of sky blue. The whole egg seems faintly metallic, as if rubbed in silver. The egg seems to lift one''s spirits and make them soar. Surely such a pretty egg *must* contain a beautiful dragonet! Many candidates are anxiously awaiting the hatching of this egg, convinced that the dragonet inside will surely be theirs, their wonderful, beautiful dragonet. In fact, if you squint your eyes and look at it in just the right way, the white flurry on the eggshell seems just like a dragon silhouetted against the sky, wings spread...
Egg 5: Bright Colors Egg
This egg is blissfully unaware of the attention it is recieving, each candidate petting it and whispering their hopes and dreams. Perhaps this egg is listening to each and every one of them, planning on breaking their hearts as it breaks its shell. No, that wouldn''t be right; the bright colours of this egg seem too cheerful! And yet, the yellow on that bright blue seems slightly discordant... both are bright, beautiful colours, but they don''t seem to like interacting with that ribbon of black streaking across the surface. Careful, because if you watch it for too long, the surface may begin to ripple, or so it would look... Is something unfriendly distorting the egg? ...Nah, it''s just your eyes, tired from looking at this bright egg for so long.
Egg 6: Creamy World Egg
Candidates gazing at this egg may, at first, try to see the pattern that is half-concealed by a milky cloudiness. It looks like their very own planet, Pern, but perhaps rearranged slightly. Beneath the cloud, is a pattern there that''s important? What if it shows Pern of the future? If only that swirling, creamy cloud was gone! Then they could see much better. Yet some will instead look at the cloud of cream-color, thinking that it looks almost green or yellow in some places. Still others, the hungriest of candidates, will be reminded of their rumbling stomach and how they would love to eat a fruit-crme pie, or drink a warm glass of cream-laced klah...
Egg 7: Egg of Rippling Illusions
This egg, such a bright, beautiful violet in shade, stands out from those around it. The little mound it has been placed into to keep it warm, under almost constant gaze of Amarith, seems like a pedestal that this egg has been placed on. Its surface, so... textured, it seems. It looks like it is a clear egg composed of water, rippling everywhere! Ripples that shoot across its surface! But when one touches it, their hands might graze over each ripple and they''d be surprised to realize that it is just as smooth as any other egg. Candidates may try to stare into its purple depths, trying to make out images beneath it. If it''s so transparent, shouldn''t they be able to see the dragonet beneath? Tantalizing shapes may seem to appear on the surface. "I see a staircase!" One candidate may say. "Well, I see a stack of metal trays," says another. Does it matter? Whatever dragon remains in here, he or she is putting up an illusion to hide behind, until the time is right to reveal itself to the world.
*Egg 8: Burn, Burn, Egg
This egg is certainly an egg capable of making the meekest candidates tremble in fear as they watch its fiery shell. Many a watcher may think it strange that the shell doesn''t simply melt and slide right off of the dragon. Then again, many of the watchers would love that, just to know what color rests within the egg. As if sensing everyone''s anxiety, this egg smolders slowly, quietly. Biding its time? Perhaps. It isn''t as attention-getting as some of the other eggs, but it is quite attention-getting in its own right, with the red, sullen fire dancing across it. Many of the candidates feel intensely nervous about this egg, and stay away. But is this a good choice? Perhaps, without that much attention, it can put into plan a devious intention of its own. Only time will tell.
Egg 9: Fall of Night Egg
This egg''s shell is covered in a beautiful, entrancing, swirled pattern. Many artists will try to catch it on paper or canvas before it is too late; before the shell is broken. They will, perhaps, get a chance to jot down each and every minute whorl on the shell as Amarith lovingly rotates it. Its color alone is enough to take anybody''s breath away: predominantly a dark blue, with each "rib" on the surface being slightly off-shade as compared to the one before it, and then a few sections of silvery hue mixing in. Certainly the colors are dark, but an egg this beautiful could *never* be sinister... could it?
*Egg 10: Amber Cola Egg
This egg couldn''t be happier. The world is a wonderful place, the Amber Cola Egg declares. Go have fun! Live a little! This egg truly does seem as bubbly as it appears. For that is what the egg looks like: A giant piece of tree sap, with bubbles in it. A few furtive candidates might try and taste it– on second thought, they wouldn''t dare, not with Amarith watching them so closely! As they run their hands along the shell, some privately think it looks like the shell is an empty recepticle, filled with some bubbling, amber-hued drink. No, not a chance... the dragonet inside seems to be giggling at what you think. Or perhaps it was your imagination, and this delighted egg playing a trick on you.
*Egg 11: Curtain of Concealment Egg
The surface of this egg seems to ripple beneath a candidate''s fingers. It is naturally a pale cream color. One will never quite know for sure, however, because the surface is covered in tucks and folds, as if the smooth cream surface was just a curtain fluttering in the wind. Or, perhaps its trying to hide something.... the dragonet within, one would first think, but looking closer, they might see images start to leap out at them. It looks like a rabbit jumping headfirst at them! And over here is a face with a long nose... Staring at this egg and wondering what its hiding can make your mind play tricks on you and have you see things you hadn''t seen before. Or maybe the surface really *is* rippling, always changing... but now that you watch it, it doesn''t seem to change much. That''s odd...
Egg 12: Burnished Glory Egg
This egg is a bronzy-brown color, leading many candidates to think of the Kings and Queens that might reside within it. Some covetous candidates might even try to pry a small egg shard off of the beautiful ovoid to keep that noble color with them forever, but this egg is unyeilding, and Amarith is watching all of her eggs much too closely for the candidate to succeed. As you run your hands over the shell, you immediately jump in fright. Four slashes run the length of this egg! The very shell has been torn to ribbons! What sort of creature would do this to eggs, or could do it and would get away with t? As you run your fingers over the shell, you realize it is whole and smooth, and the black shreds seem to be under the cool, slightly hard surface. This might be a lurking darkness within the egg, or a warning to any predators. Don''t touch me, these slashes seem to say. You know that everybody will come after you if you hurt me.
Egg 13: Egg of the Silver Web
This egg, a wonderful green color, has black splotches along the sides and running up to the surface. It is very pretty, but it seems that it has been left unwatched for a little bit too long by Amarith, for some nasty spinner has crawled all over it and covered it in silvery threads! Shiny globs rest in the web, like violaters caught breaking the law. As a candidate runs their hands over the smooth, warm surface, he or she might even half-expect so catch their hands in the sticky mess. It turns out that there never was a crawling spinner, but that the web is actually a pattern on the shell. This egg is slighly disconcerting. Perhaps its best to move on, rather than discover the secrets of this egg.
Egg 14: Black As Anger Egg
The air around this egg seems hotter than anywhere else, and a little bit stifling. This egg is slightly metallic, but beneath that sheen, it is a pitch black. When the light hits it directly, it shines red, and the silver reflects the warm sun, causing a golden bead. This red heart seems to swell occasionally, and as Amarith turns the egg, the old heart vanishes just as a new one is born. Yes, this egg is silently seething. Why it is angry, or at whom, is unapparent. Perhaps its merely the fact that the candidates haven''t given it enough attention? Maybe it is simply indignant. Whatever injustice has been dealt, I wouldn''t want to hang around when this egg hatches. It seems that the first thing the dragonet inside will want to accomplish is revenge.
*Egg 15: Egg of Caravaner''s Music
This egg is a whole, warm black color, but cutting through the ebony surface is a few horizontal windows that circle the egg, letting the viewer look inside to see... a swirl of breathtaking color and beauty, one would first expect with delight, but looking closer, one might begin to make out many fanciful Caravaners whirling around, banging the tambourine and swaying seductively to the music. Each color is a scarf, the clothing that these enticing women are wearing. Why would an egg give a whit about any Caravaner? Perhaps its merely trying to present its love for music. If that is so, than this egg is certainly quite the musical one.
Egg 16: Puzzle Pieces Egg
The first impression a candidate might get from this egg is the different shapes of green, each running horizontally across, looking for all the world like a three-dimensional puzzle. We''d better hope that the puzzle was completed successfully, and that the finished piece is a sturdy one! Otherwise, as each candidate touches it, it might topple down. And I''m not sure if I can remember how to fit all those pieces back together correctly...
*Egg 17: It''s A Cold, Cruel World Egg
This egg sits a little apart from the others, looking a little bit lonely... the surface seems almost watery. Is that eggshell really dry? As a candidate touches it, they might feel slightly nervous at first. What if the shell really is as thin as it looks, and flimsy? What if their touch breaks it, sending water everywhere? However, this egg is hard as a rock, or so it would seem. The shell seems slightly brittle, as if this egg put up a cold, hard shell against the realities of life. Yes, it''s harsh, but it''s a harsh world. If that''s all an egg has to protect itself, it had better be well-protected. So this egg sits in cold determination, behind a solid shell, a wall of defense to protect itself from any attacks upon it. But, little egg, you might be blocking out the bad things in life, but how is any good going to get in, either?
*Egg 18: Blinding Lightening Egg
This egg may cause a few candidates to blink a few times as their eyes fall onto it. It''s very bright, a silvery-platinum color that will leave marks on anybody''s vision when they look away. Running through this egg are ribbons of lightening, like the opposite sides of this egg are filled with opposite charges and it needs to be neutralized. If the egg is a giant thundercloud and the black tendrils are lightening, than there''s a big storm of the way when this egg hatches.
Egg 19: Orange Coral Egg
This egg seems like a serene ocean, though the ocean is green. It would be a wonderful day to go sailing... ah, what''s this? A whole reef has appeared suddenly, and you must go quite carefully if you wish to leave these bright orange corals alone. They look slightly toxic, and besides, they are living and they''ll die if disturbed. Well, if you value your life and theirs, you''ll let them rest. Be careful with your fingers... you wouldn''t want to break any of that coral as you touch this egg.
*Egg 20: Bloody Battlefield Egg
This egg is a wonderful green of the fields. It would be a nice day to take a stroll... what''s this? Are these drops of copper and crimson? It seems as if this field isn''t as beautiful as you thought... drops of blood cover the whole thing. Was there a battle here recently? There''s certainly been blood spilled here. It even *smells* like blood around this egg, if you smell closely. Or maybe it''s just your imagination... At any rate, you wouldn''t want to get caught in any crossfire for lingering too long at this egg.
Egg 21: Muddy Waters Egg
This egg looks like it could have been a clear, cool blue, shadowed in some places, but perhaps when it first hit the sand, a lot of grains stuck to it. But as a candidate runs his or her hand over the egg, it turns out that she shell is impeccably smooth, not a mar on it. So perhaps the stream from which this egg seems to reflect is murky and muddy. Some underwater creature is stirring up this mud. The dragon itself, perhaps? Or maybe the water itself is raging and pummeling the streambed, causing clouds of dirt to rise up. Whatever the cause is, the dirt definately looks much too dry to be rising from the bottom of a river... maybe the river is drying up, and all that is left is a drying, baking riverbed.
Egg 22: Cloak of Darkness Egg
If one thing could be said about the appearance of this egg, it is that it is myserious. Almost as if the dragonet inside the egg doesn''t want to be seen, the egg is wreathed in darkness, and a shimmering, livid veil is pulled around it. This egg seems quite mysterious, yes, but as a candidate bends to whisper to it, telling their hopes and dreams and fears, is that a faintly sinister air that the candidate percieves? The egg could simply be shy, of course, but it could also be hiding a secret. Is this a dark secret? It may be something as simple as the dragonet within... but how simple is that?
*Egg 23: Rainbow Streaks Egg
This egg is predominantly a pale silvery color, which may make some think of a regal color it contains. After the cursory glance is done, however, they may begin to see that it is merely a background for a more colorful landscape. Ribbons of red and pink hues flash across this egg, like Threadfall, or streaks of... blood? No, this egg seems much too gay for that. It is rather more a party, with streamers being thrown in the air to celebrate. Each of these streaks is twisted slightly, as if uncurling. Rippling across what would be the outer layer are small hints of tints ranging from cyan to violet. Yes, this rainbow egg seems too cheery to think of the negative things in life. What a wonderful way to live!
*Egg 24: Tarnished Metal Egg
When a candidate first reaches out to touch it, they will notice that this egg seems cooler than the other eggs. Despite Amarith''s constant care and the heat of the hatching sands, it is naturally a few shades cooler than any other egg that has been touched so far. It is tempting to lay one''s cheek on the egg and begin whispering words to this egg, which seems to comfort the talker in a strange sort of way. Yes, this egg listens, and never talks back. That is how the egg provides the comfort: Merely by listening. But will this egg use all of the candidates'' words against them? One day, will the candidates be rebuked for pouring out their hearts? Surely not; just because this egg seems cold doesn''t make it an icy dragonet inside, does it?
Egg 25: Egg of Feeble Appearances
The dragonet inside *really* doesn''t want to show itself to the world, it seems, because its hiding behind many layers. First layer immediately visible to the eye is a red layer, shining faintly golden when the sun hits it directly. This layer seems durable and strong, like a membrane. Over that is even another layer, but it is a rather flimsy one indeed. It is pink in color, but if eggshell was material, then this would be like a spiderweb. This pink veil seems to not have been big enough in the first place, for the dragonet tried to spread it over his or her shell, and it tore. There is now a group of ugly grey scars where this layer ripped. In addition, the material wasn''t that strong to begin with, so the stretching seems to have caused this layer to begin fraying all across its expanse. Why is this dragonet so afraid of showing itself to the world? Is it really necessary for it to hide away? Only on Hatching Day will this be revealed, but for now, candidates can eagerly gaze at the sphere, hoping to catch a glimpse beneath the feeble, weak, pink-hued layer.
