Ivan sits next to Max in the hospital; Biff and Saikoro walk in with a grocery bag.
Biff: Got the cheesecake.
Max: Hooray!
Saikoro: And a much better tea.
Ivan: What took so long?
Saikoro: Hit a box and the car swerved in the rain; Biff wouldn’t stop nagging me until I checked his precious car.
Biff: It was your stupid singing that made you careless. And I doubt it was a box.
Saikoro: Hmmm…
Saikoro remembers driving the car in the rain singing “Karma Chameleon” with Biff. The car hits an object in the road and drags it under the wheel. Saikoro swerves and hits the gas.
Biff: What the hell did you hit?
Saikoro: I think it was a box.
Biff: Great, you killed a hobo with my car.
Saikoro, back in the present, scratches his head.
Saikoro: Might have hit a b***h.
Biff: Eh, I guess it was a dog.
Max: Biff! You killed a poor innocent doggy!
Biff: No! Saikoro did!
Saikoro: Don’t blame this on me! It was the dog’s fault!
Ivan: Ahem, I don’t mean to interrupt but Chris called about Scarlet…
Biff in his car driving in the rain; he’s on the phone with Chris.
Biff (On phone): I’m going to check my apartment… well; she goes over there when she’s upset. Okay Chris, I’ll call you when I get there.
Chris hangs up the phone in the bar; Alice serves drinks to a few customers.
Alice: You okay Chris?
Chris: She’s hurting Alice…
Alice: Hm?
Chris: Scarlet’s in pain.
Biff turns his key and walks into his apartment. His carpet is wet.
Biff: Scarlet?
Biff walks down the hall towards the bathroom. Biff stops and opens the door; he drops to his knees.
Biff: Scarlet!
Thunder roars outside; the sky is pitch-black. People scurry down the streets; Oliver holding an umbrella stops at a shop window. On the TV screen is a news report of a young Fox Genra killed by a hit and run. Oliver drops his umbrella.
Oliver: She’s… dead?
In Biff’s bed lies Scarlet; a Band-Aid is on her cheek. Scarlet tries to focus her eyes in the dark room. A light is on in the other room; Biff is on the phone with Chris.
Biff (On phone): She’s going to be okay… yeah, she’s staying here tonight. Good night Chris.
Lightning flashes outside; Scarlet sits up and looks at her bandaged wrists. Biff stands at the doorway.
Biff: I’ll have to put new bandages on you soon.
Scarlet: Biff…
Biff: Hm?
Scarlet: Would you die to save my life?
Biff: I would.
Scarlet: Why…
Scarlet looks down at her arms; Biff sits down on the bed. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out a picture.
Biff: It’s because I love you.
Biff hands the picture to Scarlet; Scarlet takes the picture. The picture is of Biff holding Scarlet as a baby.
Biff: No matter what I’ll love you, Scarlet.
Scarlet: I wish I was a child again… none of this would have happened…
Biff: It’s life… are you hungry?
Scarlet: No… I just want the pain to go away…
Biff: You are the Mini-Goddess…
Biff embraces Scarlet; she rests her head on his chest.
Scarlet: How do you always make the pain go away...
Biff: I guess I’m just good like that.
In the morning; Scarlet sits at the kitchen table in a long t-shirt. She looks around the kitchen and remembers taking the bottle of wine. Her thought breaks when Biff walks into his apartment rubbing his head and carrying a bag.
Biff: I swear I’ll never ask another thing from those winches.
Scarlet (In kitchen): Who are you talking about?
Biff walks into the kitchen and places the bag on the table.
Biff: The bitchy one, the little princess, and the dumb one.
Scarlet: Kendra, Shaylee, and Raine?
Biff: Yeah, I asked if I could borrow some clothes for you. That’s when Kendra hit me with a lamp.
Scarlet: A lamp?
Biff: Don’t worry about; Raine gave me a bag of her stuff.
Scarlet: Oh… I’m sorry about your wine… and the bathroom.
Biff: Don’t worry about it; you just remind me how much that bathroom needs remodeling.
Scarlet: Why do you never get mad at me…
Biff puts his hand on Scarlet’s head.
Biff: You had a bad day…
Later, Biff and Scarlet walk into the bar; Chris embraces Scarlet.
Chris: I was so worried!
Scarlet: Sorry, the rain just got bad and I forgot to call…
Alice: You had us all scared. There were quite a few accidents yesterday with that terrible rain.
Scarlet: Seems to be gone now though… where’s Dad?
Chris: At the hospital; Max is getting out a week.
Biff: I can’t wait.
Saikoro appears sitting on a bar stool in front of Biff sipping a cup of tea.
Saikoro: That’s when you going to pop the question?
Everyone blinks; Biff gets a sweat drop.
Saikoro: Hehe, I guess you only told me!
Biff: That’s the last time I tell you anything.
Chris: You’re going to ask Max to marry you Biff?
Biff: What can I say? I love Max.
Scarlet: I wonder if he’ll wear a dress…
Saikoro: With him, you never know. Ah, why has my lovely Alice not spoken yet?
Alice: Nee…
Alice pokes Saikoro.
Alice: He’s really here...
Saikoro: Sorry for making you wait.
In Max’s hospital room; Max yawns lying in bed.
Max: I can’t wait to be out of here…
Ivan: Sure has been a long time…
Max: Yeah… Heh, big brother…
Ivan: Yeah?
Max: When are you going to announce that I’ll be having a little niece or nephew?
Ivan: Whenever it says positive I suppose…
Max: Hmph, you’d think with being a rabbit you’d have a ton of kids.
Ivan: I think I’ll be good with two.
Max: Me too… Ivan…
Ivan: Yeah Max?
Max: Where’s Biff?
Ivan: I’m sure he’ll be here soon.
In Biff’s car, the radio is on. Scarlet is looking out the window in the passenger seat.
Radio: Yesterday a fatal hit and run took the life of a Fox Genra Karma –
Biff turns off the radio; Scarlet looks at her bandages.
Biff: Just keep them covered up…
Scarlet: Should I feel responsible for her death…
Biff: As much as I detest Karma for what she put you through… She sacrificed herself so you could live… so you can’t feel responsible…
Scarlet: It’s all just so strange…
Biff: Life is strange… if it was normal we’d all be bored.
Arriving at the hospital; Biff hugs Max. Scarlet sits on a chair leaning her head back. Ivan hands her a cup.
Ivan: You all right…
Scarlet: Yeah…
Max: You seem sad Scarlet.
Scarlet: I’m fine… just need some air…
Scarlet gets up and leaves the room; Ivan folds his arm.
Ivan: She’s lying…
Biff: I don’t know how she’s going to be after Karma’s unexpected death…
Ivan: Never the same…
Max: Hm?
Ivan: I’ll go talk to her.
Ivan leaves the room; Max frowns.
Biff: What’s wrong Max?
Max: I sense the same sadness he had when Kyo died…
On the top of the hospital roof; Scarlet looks at her bandaged wrists.
Scarlet: Why was I saved?
Ivan walks out on the roof.
Ivan: Don’t do anything stupid Scarlet.
Scarlet: Hm?
Ivan: This place… it brings back memories…
Scarlet: What are you talking about Dad?
Ivan: Do you believe in falling in love again?
Scarlet: Are you asking if my heart will ever heal over Karma?
Ivan: Yeah…
Scarlet: I don’t know…
Ivan: If I was asked that question back in high school, I would have said no.
Scarlet: What do you mean?
Ivan: I was in love with someone before me and your mother were ever involved intimately…
Scarlet: Who?
Ivan: His name was Kyo…
Ivan sits down against the wall of the hospital.
Scarlet: Did you love him more than Momma?
Ivan: Well, Kyo will always hold a special place in my heart but…
Ivan leans his head back and looks up at the sky.
Ivan: This is where he killed himself, right where I’m sitting.
Scarlet gasps and falls to her knees.
Ivan: He thought I was dead and he didn’t want to live without me… I survived though.
Scarlet: What did you do, Daddy?
Ivan: I was depressed but your Mom was their for me and Max. I know I can be over protecting and headstrong but Kyo’s death changed me.
Ivan stands up and holds out his hand to Scarlet.
Ivan: When someone dies for you, especially if you love them, it makes your whole perspective on life different.
Scarlet stands up with the help of Ivan.
Ivan: And people who you knew all along, can turn into something more. You just have to try and never give up hope.
Scarlet: Dad!
Scarlet hugs Ivan and starts to cry. Ivan pats her head.
Ivan: You’re going to make it Scarlet. Just like I did.
