Who else is eagerly awaiting the remake of Sholay? Who's seen the original? How do you guys feel about Amitabh Bachchan playing Gabbar Singh (the villian, whereas Amitabh played the hero in the 1975 original)?

Here's Amitabh as Gabbar:

Anyone know exactly when this year it is coming out?

That's so weird how he played the hero and now he's playing the villain!

Yeah, I was really weirded out at first when I heard that because I thought, no way, Amitabh's too good to play someone so evil and skeezy! But when I saw that pic I changed my mind, I bet he's gonna kick a** in that role, he's such an awesome actor. Plus, I think I heard somewhere that he had originally wanted the role of Gabbar anyway.

I am dying for it! XD

I read somewhere that Amitabh, after reading the script for the first time, really wanted to play Gabbar Singh, but since that part was already taken by Amjad Khan, he got to play Jaidev.

I don't know about you, but no one can take the place of Dharmendra with "Veeruuuuu." (Or Hema Malini, for that matter.)

Anyone know when it's coming out?

Yeah, both Dharmendra and Amitabh pretty much owned with those roles. They have such fantastic buddy-chemistry. And Dharmendra and Hema are so freaking cute! I just love all of their scenes together. And that one at the end where Gabbar makes Basanti dance on broken glass to keep Veeru alive? Wow. eek

Honestly, this new one might be good and everything, but it can't replace the original. They were soo good in the original. I dunno, Amitabh is amazing in everything, but Amjad Khan was good as Gabbar Singh... it'll do well at the box office, I'm sure, but it can't be better than the original.

Oh, nothing can top the original Sholay, I absolutely agree with you. But I'm hoping it'll be a good movie of its own. I think it's going to be quite different from the original.

I agree! One of the best movies... it shouldn't be too hard to find, neither. Tho I couldn't find it at all online. You'll have to rent it from a store. My university library carries it. mrgreen

It's on Netflix, I thought, but it's at my local Bollywood store, so I got it from them in the end. biggrin

I'm not sure I'd like Amitabh as Gabbar Singh. It takes a lot to top Amjad Khan. I can still remember his rasping voice, saying "tera kya hoga kaliya" and that evil laughter. I'm sure Amitabh can act as a "cold" villain with a quite voice, but nothing like Amjad Khan!!!

I wasn't sure which scene you were referring to, but once it started going, I started getting chills. God, I loved that scene so much. Even after I watched it the first time, the second time I was like hiding under my blanket during that scene. xd
