Iris fluttered about above one of the wide fields of Eden, swirling in circles and doing aerial cartwheels, giggling happily to herself as she watched the trails of glitter follow her everywhere. "Wheeeeeee!" she squealed, chirping happily.

Uriel flexed his wings and tested the wind. He was still not up for flight. His wings were dry but unlike the butterfly within hours of bursting from its cocoon, he could not yet fly. Not yet, but soon he reassured himself. Walking was such a hassle when flight was an option ...or at least supposed to be.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
During one of her loop-de-loops, iris noticed a little tricoloured shape moving about on the ground. One with insect wings, like hers. "Well, abviously not as pretty as mine", she thought to herself. She decided to speak to this foal, as a foal bug-wing Equus was something she hadn't seen in a long while. Twirling delicately in a ever-decreasing circle, she landed gracefully near Uriel, her hooves touching the ground lightly, as if she were afraid they'd break. She smiled and greeted the young stallion "Greetings young foal, it has been a long time since I have seen a foal of your kind, may I enquie as to what your name is? Mine is Iris" she said, her voice light and graceful.

Dr Umeda
The heavens burst asunder and a company of angels rode forth on golden wings, trumpets sounding. And in their glory... Uriel snapped himself from his vision. It was an Equus similar to himself. His face revealed awe, the type of raw facination when one sees another do what they have long thought to be impossible. And she was a beautiful array of pastels ...but Uriel was suddenly overcome with feelings of mistrust. How often had such looks accompanied a shallow personality? Often enough. He pushed back such feelings, although not shutting them away completely.

He dipped his head in respect for one older than he. "In reply, I must say that you are the first of my kind that I have laid eyes on. My name is Uriel."

Dark_Queen_of_Death
"Really?" gasped Iris, surprised that he had not had a family member or friend of his own kind. She fluttered her rainbow-coated wings, creating a small cloud of glitter around her. "Surely you must take after one of your parents?" she asked, tossing her head to move her silky mane away from her face. "Or were you found, like me?" she added quickly, afraid she may have hurt his feelings. She herself knew it was upsetting to not know one's parents, especially at his tender age.

Dr Umeda

He was quite confused by what she was saying. His mother had mysteriously died soon after he had been born. He had never even got an education on how babies were made so he didn't know he should have a father either. Uriel certainly wasn't found either ...unless her meeting him was considered "being found". He decided it would be best to come out and say so.

"I never knew my parents. Lived out here by myself." If he had known that this wasn't normal, he might have been cocky about it. Considering he didn't, he was quite indifferent about the whole ordeal. He pawed nervously at the ground and cast a glance at the sky. "Is it nice? Being up there, I mean," he said with a guesture towards the sky.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris nodded her head, he was like her, of unknown heritage, but it didn't seem to have had any adverse effect on him, which was a good sign, at least superficially, as she had no real idea of what was going on inside his head. "Up there... yes, it is very nice indeed" she smiled, her wings fluttering again at the memory of flying. "The gift of flight is truly a blessing to those who have it. " she paused for a moment, pondering his question Have you never learned to? Or have you still to train your wings?" she asked, tilting her head to one side.

Dr Umeda

He nodded at her statement. It was a blessing, a blessing he wished he had learned the tricks of. He started at her question. Uriel was on the verge of being embarrassed. But after calculating the possibilities of seeing her again, he decided to go ahead and tell her. After all, maybe she could help him. "Well, you see, I can never seem to get very far off the ground ...or for very long. I haven't mastered the trick of it, whatever it is."

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris smiled kindly at the foal, trying to ease off the embarassment that was everso slightly hinted on his face. "Well that's completely understandable, if you've had no-one to teach you how to, it's not as easy as some would make it seem, especially when you're young." she giggled "Gosh, I remember the number of times I crashlanded when I was a foal, I was a complete air-klutz, always falling and crashing." she wiggled her antennae thoughtfully. "Would you like me to help you?" she asked, having taken a liking to the bug-winged foal.

Dr Umeda
Her smile made him feel more comfortable and at ease. Perhaps that was why he was able to become so excited, because he was no longer tense and wary. He had been more or less told he wasn't a failure and he wasn't alone. It was the reassurance the foal had perhaps been lacking in his lonely wanderings.

"Please," he answered with a nod, smiling happily.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
She smiled again, this time because she felt privileged that a foal had agreed to let her 'teach' him. She had never had any foals of her own and had previously been rather useless with children. It was then she realized she had no idea how to teach. 'Oh well' she thought to herself, 'I suppose I should start from where I begin when I fly'.
"Okay" she said, moving her wigs up and down in a flapping motion, "Now, can you do this?" she asked, not because she thought he was stupid, but to make sure it wasn't due to any wing-muscle problems that he was unable to fly well.

Dr Umeda
It felt slightly redundant that she was asking him to flap his wings as if he couldn't. Afterall, he had already stated he had managed a little bit. But he knew he wasn't going to get anywhere unless he tried. And attempting to fight with her wasn't going to do that for him. ...not to mention he wasn't even good at fighting, any sort of fighting even though he should be.

And so he flapped his wings for her.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
"Ah, good" she beamed, giving his wings and back a quick look over to make sure everything was in order. She began flapping her own wings a tad faster, bending her knees to brace herself, before she leapt upwards, her wings suddenly gaining speed and holding her in place mid-air "Now try this, just staying in one place for a little while. It's just like learning to walk, you have to 'train' your wings to hold you up for a while, just like you have to do with your legs to let you stand up and walk." she slowed fluttering and landed again, "you can do a running jump or just jump right up, whichever you find easiest."

Dr Umeda
He watched her critically, trying to pick up every movement she made to help her "take off". He bent his knees and held them for a minute like coiled springs, and leapt. He was high up ...but then he fell. To his happiness, he didn't fall back onto the ground, managing to catch himself just above the ground. But it took a lot out of him to stay that way.

Perhaps she was right about the whole training business. Uriel just needed to find a lot more patience than what he had already.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris noted the energy it had taken Uriel to get himself in the air and nodded "You're trying too hard, and making yourself tired before you begin. You don't need to jump super-high to fly, and starting to move your wings faster before you jump means you don't have to go so fast trying to stay up, like this" she flapped her wings and jumped again, staying in the air at the highest point of her jump, which was about a foot off the ground. "You see? The jump only has to be small, so long as your feet are off the ground you're flying, so to speak, you can work on getting higher once you're in the air." she landed again, "And your body isn't used to it yet, so your muscles will probably get tired pretty quick, but with a little practise you'll be a pro in no time!"

Dr Umeda
He had to assume what she said was true. She could fly and he barely could. She could do tricks. He could do none. And he'd follow her advise. The sky looked so inviting and the ground had rules and limits to follow. The sky was more free and open. There were adventures he could have if only he could fly. "I hope so," he replied to the "pro" bit.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
"Of course it'll happen, look, you've been in the air for a couple minutes aleady and you haven't fallen once!" she beamed, nodding at the foal's fluttering wings. "It's not so bad once you get the hang of it, you just need a little confidence and a little practise." she swished her tail and fluttered her glittery wings, nickering happily at the foal.

Dr Umeda
"Yes, I suppose so," he agreed and landed back on the ground tiredly. He was definitely glad he had met someone willing to teach him rather than someone who would laugh and poke fun at him for it. "Thank you," he said with a bob of his head.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris blushed, someone had actually thought her advice useful enough to be thanked for it? "You're more than welcome" she bobbed an equine curtsey which was mostly just bending all four of her knees a little. "All that flying's made me thirsty, i'm gonna head over to the river, you wanna come along?" she asked, tossing her head in the direction of said river.

Dr Umeda
Uriel, who had little interaction with other creatures, only assumed her blushing was polite and thought nothing of it. At her offer, he thought about it. All that exercise did make one thirsty, now that he stopped to let his body scream its needs at him. "That sounds like a good idea." he said and plodded along next to her.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris trotted happily along to the river, feeling proud of herself at having given useful advice to someone. When she reached the river she knelt down beside it and bent her neck down, taking a long drink of the cool, refreshing water. When she had slaked her thrist she shuffled forward a little and dipped her forelegs into the water to about knee depth and began wiggling them around. "Aaaaah, so refreshing" she sighed happily.

Dr Umeda
Uriel followed, his step not upbeat like Iris' but neither depressed and dragging. Mane rippling in the wind, breast jut forth gently caressed, hooves against the gentle clouds... No, he was not having an erotic daydream. He was envisioning as he had many times before what it'd be like to fly. His dream was so much closer within his grasp he was having a hard time even paying attention to where he was going to the point that his feet were already in the water before he even realized he had reached said water. Quickly covering for his foolish act, he dipped his head and drank his fill and when she made her comment, he nodded and smiled. "Such a nice day too."

His conversational pleasantries were slowly coming back to him.

Dark_Queen_of_Death
Iris smiled and dipped her face into the river, blowing several bubbles underwater before re-emerging, her wet forelocks hanging over her eyes and dripping water onto her nose.
"Hehe, yeah it is" she said, parting her hair out of her eyes with her antennae and peering up at the bright blue sky. "Hardly a cloud about in the air" she pulled her hair up behind her ears and moved her antennae back to their 'sitting' position. She giggled as she watched the river carrying away a twinkling stream of sparkles, standing up and shaking her forelegs to get rid of the excess water clinging to them.
"So, do you preferr red or blue?"

Dr Umeda
The equus whose company he currently shared seemed such a free spirit it took him by surprise. What childhood innocence most youths might have been offered had trickled out of him over the years so to see the lightness with which she saw life was rather refreshing. Had he not already come to this realization before she asked her question he might have been wierded out. But it had not turned out that way.

"Um... well, blue I suppose. If you think about it, it's a rather calming color, not as fierce or as demanding as red. I suppose blue's a much more rational color too. And of course, my coat suggests a natural bias towards the color blue also." After a pause he added, "What about you?"

Dark_Queen_of_Death
She giggled, something she did quite often, and nodded her head, causing a lock of hair to fall from behind her ear and land square in the centre of her face with a small slap. She pulled it back again with her antennae as she answered the foal "I suppose so, and I must say your coat is a very lovely shade of blue. I, on the other hand, am mostly purple, which is a mix of both, so I have no such bias. However I preferr blue, because it's the colour of the clearest sky and the sparkling sea, although I have no qualms with red, as it's the color of the beautiful sunset and the warming fire." she seemed quite happy to talk on about such things. Beauty had always been something she loved, colours and sparkles delighted her, which was handy as she was, herself, colorful and sparkly. Though she most loved seeing different beauty from her own, as there was only a limited amount of time she could sit and stare at her reflection before she got bored (admittedly this was quite a long time, but it had a limit).
"So..." she said, realizing she had gone off on a small tangent. "Have you ever seen a fire opal?"

Dr Umeda
Uriel didn't mind the conversation. It was a healthy discussion about something. All too often those had occured with himself. The conversation was new too but then again, it fit. Afterall, the lady he was with had more colors than he which gave a reason to, he assumed as if one needed a reason to talk about something. He nodded at her response. There was little he could say back. Afterall, she was stating her opinion.

However, he had to, yet again, admit a negative in response to a question. "No, I haven't seen a fire opal. What is it?"

Dark_Queen_of_Death
She smiled and stood up, shaking her wet mane a little. "It's a gemstone, and such a very pretty one at that! As you can see, my hair is like a regualr opal, mostly blue, but with lots of other colors inbetween! Now a fire opal, instead of shining a rainbow of colors, burns like a fire within! It's a most amazing stone." she turned around and nodded her head in the direction she was now facing, "Come and see for yourself, my friend Queenie has one in our little home." she said, trotting along at a slow pace towards her abode.

Dr Umeda
Uriel, feeling as if all of this was some sort of adventure in itself, followed after. "Sure, I'll take a look." Lacking much of what is considered fun and enjoyment, he was slightly more practical than others. He also couldn't imagine what could be that interesting about a stone. He could only assume there was something fabulous about it if she felt the need to show him.

Iris approached a round hut of pretty average size, large enough to home a few Equus, but not so large as to seem out of place. It's roof was covered in leaves and straw, and it had several little windows with sparkling gem-covered strings hanging in them. Iris stuck her had through the brightly colored curtain that was the door of her home, turning to beckon Uriel inside before waltzing on in, the curtain falling closed behind her.
The inside of her home was very neat, containing three straw beds, one covered in red sheets, one strewn with various color sheets, and one, seemingly out of place, plain straw bed with no sheets or decor. There was a red-painted heart-shaped chest in one corner, which she approached, opening it by nudging it with her nose. It had many little sections inside, each containing a single precious gemstone. Diamonds, rubies, opals, and ores, some set into jewellery, some cut, some uncut. To most it would seem like an impossible treasure, but Iris was totally unfazed by it, having seen it hundreds of times already. She picked one gemstone up with her antennae and turned to show it to Uriel. She set it on the floor and gazed at it happily, it was only about the size of an acorn, rounded and smooth, but it shone with a dozen shades of red, yellow and orange, dancing and burning like a flame.

Uriel was amazed by all that he saw within Iris' abode. The beauty that it contained made him feel ackward and inadequate, like by beholding it, whatever beauty he had was forever deminished. Looking at the fire opal, he felt no different than he had entering the home. For doubting that it could be interesting or something worth withholding, he felt a pang of some form of guilt although he couldn't quite pin-point it. It was something that was worth his time.

Although upon reflection of this moment, he might have laughed at himself for seeming so feminine but he could not deny it ...and he could not find any words worth saying.
