Komatii Shores:
The Sands of Fire and Ice

The Komatii Shores is a wide expanse of fine sand gathered in an old cove by the waves of the ocean. Large palm trees and grass grow in the soft sands while a small river that cuts the beach in half washes some of the sand out to sea. Komatii sand is different from the sands of your standard beach, possessing a distinctly different composition and possessing crystals that are tinted in a green. The sand is said to be remnant evidence of a great magical war that plagued the land. The most unique aspect of Komatii sand is that it cannot be melted to make glass, no matter how hot a furnace you seem to place it within.

During the day the sands burn blistering hot and the water flows at a freezing temperature in comparison. Steam rises from the shoreline and sometimes the wind blows it inland creating a peculiar fog effect. At night the sand cools and the cool breeze from the sea pierces any traveler with cold. On dark nights strange creatures are said to come forth from the icy waters, making this a dangerous place to pass through. Komatii sand is considered valuable and to hold magical power and so many are led to their early demise pursuing large portions of it.

Trade Road North/South: This road was made to withstand the heat of the sands and allow safe passage across the Shores. Special wards keep the sea monsters away. However, should you leave the safety of the path harm will surely befall you.

Taima stood on the traders path, somewhere between north and south, but definately away from her home on the northern edge. She carried a heavy bag strapped to her back which she set down on the ground in front of her. She stretched her arms up and sighed, feeling the strange, yet familiar fog make ghostly tendrils around her. She knew this place was highly dangerous if she dared step off the path, but she couldn't help picking this road as her first to take on her journey. She supposed it was a last goodbye to her home. She would miss fishing with her family and friends, and sitting on the southern wall of the town and watching the fog roll in and out. But this was more important than a life of comfort. She had to find out what had happened to her.
With a crack of her neck, Taima picked up her sack and set it on her back and started walking south again. Just ahead she could see the bridge above the delta and was hoping that somewhere near by there was a town. It would be dark in a few hours or so, and she hoped she could find a place to stay.

Taima continued south down the road, crossing over the bridge, and further past her home of Kuagi. She kept looking back over her shoulder at the glittering shores which slowly grew smaller and smaller. It absolutely shined in the fading sun and the fog lazily started to retreat back to the ocean. It would be cold there soon, but she was well enough away to leave her jacket in her pack. The weather was always drastically different away from the shores.
Taima turned her gaze away from the glistening sight for the last time and looked ahead at the path before her. The road seemed to get slightly more improved and not as gravelly or uneven. She must be coming up close to somewhere. Hopefully they had a nice inn she could get a warm meal and a good nights rest at.

About two hours later she saw a dim glow in the distance and smiled. Things were good so far. Hopefully it will stay that way.
