Not exactly sure how to do this, but since I've written a story about dear Rosie, I figured I'd give her a little space to introduce herself wink
'Allo there mates! I'm Rose Sparrow, or Rosie as most like to call me. I grew up in Tortuga, where me mum, Scarlett, was a lady of *ahem* questionable occupation...reputation...whatever ye wanna call it. It wasn't like I had a bad life; we got by.
I'm 16 now, but when I was real little, Mum used to tell me all manner of stories, about ghosts, goblins, and my favorite, pirates. She told me that me dad was a cad, and a pirate, just like the ones in the stories, and I should be grateful that he wasn't around. I guess I kinda got that 'pirate' thing a little stuck in me head, coz I decided early on that I was gonna be just like him, even though I didn't know him.
Mum wanted better things for me than whoring myself on the streets, even though I knew what I wanted, she dismissed it as silliness. She somehow scraped us out of the muck of Tortuga, and married a rich merchant named Amos Kingsley, whom I personally detested. It was then that I started doing things just despite them.
I took to going back out into town and got a taste for rum at a small, rowdy tavern called 'The Faithful Bride'. It was there that I met a man who was everything I'd ever dreamed to be; a real pirate. I made friends with him quickly, his wit and peculiar ways endearing him to me.
Mum and Amos finally figured out what I'd been doing (and why I always smelled of smoke and drink). Mum took me aside and despairingly asked me why I was doing all of this. Being full of the drink, I giggled and bragged to her about the company I kept now, describing all of the regulars I drank with in detail. She was quiet for a few moments after I'd finished speaking, before telling me that I'd best stay away from the one with the quick wit and beads in his hair. When I asked her why, she told me, "Because he's the no-good pirate father who never knew you were born."
What do you think? (I will post a sketch that I'm working on of Rose when I finish it.)
