(Note: If you're a new battler, this needs to be read in conjunction with 'Battle Arena Rules'.)
READ THE 'REF TOWER' BEFORE CONTINUING TO LEARN ABOUT REFEREES AND REFEREE COSTS - YOU NEED THIS INFORMATION TO UNDERSTAND THE FOLLOWING
Initiating a battle
If you have a specific member of our guild that you would like to challenge to a battle, create a new topic in this subforum ('Battle Arena') listing yourself and your desired opponent in the title. (A for-instance in this format: Porygonix vs. Starlurk). If you are simply making an open challenge to anyone (or a battler of a particular skill), state your desire in the post for an open challenge; you have the right to reject anyone who accepts your challenge that you choose not to fight and continue to wait for an accepting battler you more desire.
NEW: State your desire for how many pets both you and your opponent can use. For instance, if you want to just have one of your pets face one of your opponents', say you want a 1 on 1. If you want to use your entire troupe (if you have an entire four-pet troupe), for instance, say you want a 4 on 4. You can also do 2 on 2 or 3 on 3.
Regardless of your target...
Within the first post, list your intentions for how to pay for a referee -- by extension, you also need to pick and state in the first post what referee or level of referee you desire to use. (You can offer to solely pay for it, dutch it with your opponent, or ask your opponent to pay for the ref) You can leave the referee or level of referee up to your opponent, if you so choose.
In my for-instance above, I am challenging Starlurk specifically for a fight, so the challenge, obviously, is only open to the member Starlurk. Starlurk would then have to do the following:
Accepting/rejecting a challenge
In my hypothetical scenario, Starlurk has two priviledges:
- The chance to reject my challenge outright. If the battler you have challenged rejects the fight, report it to the 'Ref Tower' thread in the 'Battle Arena' subforum and the thread you have created for the battle will be deleted.
- The chance to modify the reffing specificities that the challenger stated. For instance, if I beg for her to pay for the referee like the romantic I am, she can ask instead to dutch it (that is, to share the fee).
The two of us would HAVE to reach a situation that we BOTH agree on, and make it clear that both have agreed to the terms. Only in this scenario will a referee be assigned to the fight.
Now, once you've both agreed to the terms of the fight...
Getting a ref
To get a ref, go to the 'Ref Tower' thread of the 'Referees' subforum of our board. The rules on how to have a ref assigned to your pending battle are listed there.
(Note: As the game has evolved, we've decided that this is only necessary if a ref doesn't assign themselves to your battle. If you've been waiting for a ref forever, only then should you go to the 'Ref Tower')
The referee will initiate the battle. DO NOT state any attacks or release your first pet until the referee instructs you.
Now, for the part you've all been waiting for ...
About the points... To quote from __penguin__ on the amount awarded, "For each battle you win, you are rewarded 50 points if your opponent's party has a higher average level than you, 45 points if it is the same, and 40 points if the average level is below."
When a referee announces your victory and the amount you are rewarded for winning, you're allowed to then cash it in the 'Bank' thread.
Anyway, sorry 'bout that. Silly bunch of rules, huh?
Thanks, guys.

Added notes:
As of 4/21, each battler, when making a challenge, needs to decide with their opponent (or state in their challenge) how many pets each will use in their battle.
Every person can have four active pets in their troupe, while the other pets are unuseable until activated, right?
Well, still...who wants to have a 4 on 4 battle every time? That would take too long.
So, now, if you'd like to have a 1 on 1, 2 on 2, or 3 on 3 pets battle, state that in your challenge or decide with your opponent. That way, you can finish your battles a little quicker.
If anyone needs further explanation, PM me!
Thanks.
-Porygonix
However you CAN have a 1 on 2, 2 on 4, etc style battle. Consider it a challenge. Also, who wants to fight a 1 on 1 battle when one of the pets is level 4 and the other pet is level 1?

To those who wish to start a challenge, here's the format of the title(You'll have to edit it when the battle starts)
Start Challenge: Open Challenge, #on#
Opponent Found, Ref Needed: [You] VS [Opponent], #on#, Ref needed
Ref Found, Opponent needed: Open Challenge, #on#, Ref-[Ref]
In Battle [You] VS [Opponent] - #on# - Ref- [Ref]
It helps the ref a ton if you do this for them and it just makes the board more organized. xP It also tells if you need a ref or opponent and about the battle. By the way, it is not required that you do it exactly like this, however if you want your battle to go smoothly it is strongly suggested to at least put your ref's name in the title.
One more thing - Don't forget there are different levels for refs. Not all cost 25sp to ref your battle! If you're searching for a ref and definitely want to only pay 25sp, it might help to add that to the title or first post.
