biggrin Good morning. smile I don't know if there is anyone here that has an interest in reading this, but I just love them. I read a daily devotion from the Portals of Prayer each day and it is very calming and reasuring. It has become the perfect day starter for me. I've shared them with family and friends and many enjoy them as I do. Maybe you will as well.
heart *hugs! heart lots of love runs

More Than Conquerors
In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. Romans 8:37
On those spring days when my husband and I work in our yard, we can see and hear airplanes in the sky, roaring over our home. The planes are beginning their descent to land at nearby Metro Airport. I often wonder about the passengers: tired business travelers returning to their careers and homes after a busy trip, excited grandparents eagerly waiting to land so they can greet and hug their grandchildren and enjoy a visit, and people with tears in their eyes as they prepare to attend the funeral of a loved one. All carry their crosses; all also have moments of joy. What about us? As we journey through life, we have our bits of gladness, our bits of sadness. In glad times, in sad times, and in bad times, we have this precious promise of the Gospel. Romans 8 says, “In all these things we are more than conquerors.” Did you catch that? Through Christ, we are more than conquerors. Our victorious Savior, by His death and resurrection, has defeated and conquered sin and shame, death and decay for us. His victory over them is our victory. And we belong to Him.
Our heavenly Father, even as we struggle with the obstacles of life, we thank You that Your Son has conquered all our trials, that our hope in You will never be disappointed. Amen

Walk as Children of Light
At one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light. Ephesians 5:8
Sports fans get upset when their heroes get themselves into trouble. Headlines scream with the athletes' antics and excapades. Sadly, many of them walk in darkness. Then again, there are examples such as Cal Ripken Jr. In 1995, he broke Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive Major League baseball games played by playing his 2,131st consecutive game. Ripken was given a standing ovation. Ripken came out of the dugout, tipped his hat, waved to the crowd, and said, "Thank you; thank you". What a humble example for us to follow. St. Paul notes, "At one time you were darkness." There is darkness in our world: terrorism, war, crime, and immorality. But we live in the light of God's love. In Baptism, He brought us out of darkness into the light of Christ. He graciously keeps us close to Chist through His Word and Supper. He leads us to repentance, chasing away the darkness of sin. In humility, we live under the cross, watching and witnessing as Jesus, from Calvary's grim cross, pours out His lifeblood upon us. In this world of darkness, Jesus is the true ligth of the world.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the light of the Gospel. Renew us to reflect its light in our lives. Amen

Don't Fret about the Future
In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man maynot find out anything that will be after him. Ecclesiastes 7:14
Friday the 13th. This day strikes terror in the hearts of superstitious people who know it as "bad luck day." Some also fear that doom will befall them if they walk under a ladder or if a black cat crosses their path. Others consult psychics to disclose the future. The Bible warns about using satanic arts, including calling on fortune-tellers, consulting the dead, and other practices. As God says in Ecclesiastes 7:14, the events of our lives reveal nothing about our future. Jesus has walked with us in the past, He walks with us today, and He will walk with us in the future. Our eternal salvation is not magic; it is mercy. In love for us, God sent His Son, Jesus, to be our Savior and our peace with God. Our sin is canceled by the blood of Jesus. Daily, He comforts us in hope by the Gospel. Someone has said: Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, and today is God's great gift to you. That's why it is called the present. Enjoy your day.
Heavenly Father, leaning on Your everlasting arms, we face each new day in Your courage and comfort. Amen.

Hang In
[Elijah] sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, "It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers." And he lay down and slept under a broom tree. And behold, an angel touched him and said to him, "Arise and eat." 1 Kings 19:4-5
Elijah the great prophet of old was depressed and discouraged. He was hunted by wicked King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, and the people of Israel rejected his message. Then God strengthened Elijah, and he went on proclaiming the powerful Word of our mighty God. "I have had enough!" Ever felt that way? Ready to give up and give in? At the end of a busy week, you may feel like giving up. Perhaps you had a tough week. This weekend, God offers you His strength and comfort in His Word and Sacrament. Don't hang it up. Hang in. Jesus did not give up. Like Elijah, He was rejected by many of His own people. Isaiah says, "He was despised and rejected by men" (Isaish 53:3). Jesus did not back down or back off. He was persistent. He went to the cross for us. He defeated for us the evil of the devil and the sickness of sin. He is our Suffering Savior and our substitute. He died and rose again that we might have abundant life in Him.
Our heavenly Father, strengthen our faith by Your Word and Sacrament so that we hang in. Amen.

Prayer for courage
Jesus, often we feel like the men on the Emmaus road, confused and frightened. As You opened the Scriptures to them, draw us to Your Word and fill us with courage so that like the Emmaus pair after they met You, we may boldly proclaim Your saving work. Give us confident faith that remains unshaken by this world's events and that testifies to Your resurrection power in our lives. In Your name we pray. Amen.

Sunday April 15th
Death and Taxes Jesus said to them, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Mark 12:17
You hear it often. Two things you cannot escape—death and taxes. In the United States, today is the deadline for paying our taxes. We complain, but part of our duty as citizens is to give to our nation. Taxation has been around for generations. Jesus paid His taxes to the Roman government. He also said, “Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s.” Everything we have is a gift from our loving heavenly Father—including the blessings of good government. Think of them: police and fire protection, roads to drive on, schools to educate our children, and many more. Taxes are the means by which God brings these gifts to us. The Father’s greatest gift of all is our eternal salvation purchased for us by Jesus on Calvary’s cross. This gift He gives freely, generously, and graciously, without any payment from us, that we may live in Him. It is our joy to respond to this great gift, the Good News of the Gospel, by giving thanks in joy.
Heavenly Father, “My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine. Now hear me while I pray; Take all my guilt away; O let me from this day Be wholly Thine!” (LSB 702:1). Amen.
