Here is an idea for a new subtype that would certainly be interesting to play. Under this subtype, the person is immune to all spells and special abilities requiring visual sight, but at the same time are incapable of using spells or special abilities that require eyesight. Although a person under this subtype is incapable of visual sight through normal methods, a blind person's other senses increase drastically. Blind by sight persons gain the following abilities:

Sound (Echolocation): This one is inspired by the Daredevil comics and movie. By listening to the vibration of sound off of objects, one can visualize in thier mind thier surroundings. Within 15 ft, as long as something is creating even a faint sound, the person can see. This adds +2 to AC. However, sonic-based attacks deal max damage to this kind of subtype and stuns them automatically for 1 round. Also, the silence spell disables thier ability to rely on sound in place of sight, reducing thier AC by -4 until the spell wears off.

Companion Visual (Usable only to Wizards, Sorcerers, Druids and Rangers): This subtype allows one to see through the eyes of an animal companion. This is a constant effect that lasts until either character or pet dies. If a pet dies, person can only re-establish visual sight by taming (or in case of wizard and sorcerer, creating) a new pet and establishing a mental link (This on average takes 2 weeks). If neither Wizard, Sorcerer, Druid or Ranger is your starting class, learning this ability takes one game month after gaining one of these classes.

Smell (Scent): Blind by birth automatically gain the scent ability with some noticable differences: The ranges one can smell are all increased by 5ft. Also, when faced with a strong or overpowering smell, this can cause the person to become nautious for 1 round (strong) or 3 rounds (overpowering)

Aura Sight (Monks, Clerics and Paladins only) Through the focusing of holy power (or ki), a blind by birth character can see the aura of those around him within 40ft. However, it is only the aura of living beings: weapons, armor, constructs not of living type and golems have no aura, nor do projectiles. If neither Monk, Cleric or Paladin is your starting class, learning this ability takes one game month after gaining one of these classes.

and maybe extend the aura perception to include undead
