The sequel that every hardcore Sega fan has always wanted, and at the same time never wanted. To save myself time I'm gonna quote some posts/journal entries I made about this.

My Gaia Journal
Yeah, NiGHTS is confirmed to be on Wii. It's called NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams.

I honestly don't know if I'm happy or sad about this. NiGHTS, along with many other Saturn favorites, are finally being recognized by modern gamers. But NiGHTS is, and has always been something sacred to me, it's a gem that only Saturn fans should be able to play. I'm happy for a sequel, but it has to be PERFECT. I doubt it will be though, Yuji Naka (original creator of Sonic and NiGHTS) is not working on this project. Who is? The freaking team that made Shadow the Hedgehog. |||:

Will this lead to more Saturn games on the Wii's VC? Virtua Fighter 2 for Saturn (Along with Alex Kidd and the Enchanted Castle [Master System] and Wonder Boy [Master System]) is going to be on the Virtual Console.

I really hope they don't bring NiGHTS or Guardian Heroes to the VC. I'm angry enough about the Guardian Heroes/Gunstar Heroes (terrible) sequels for GBA, and I'm still unsure about the Gunstar Heroes port to the VC.

I hope NiGHTS isn't screwed up. ):

Edit: Not really liking the mask idea, LOVING the weather idea.

If confirmation of NiGHTs: Journey of Dreams simply wasn't enough, a few more details have found their way online via Sega of Europe's website. The information originally surfaced on their English page (under the features section) and has since disappeared, but the bits remain preserved on the French version, for gamers suspicious of a conspiracy to trick them (thanks Kotaku, Sega Nerds).

In any case, the gameplay won't be nearly as simplistic this time around (start acting shocked), as NiGHTs can take advantage of three different masks, altering his abilities:

# Dragon mask: Transforms NiGHTS into a huge dragon and makes him resistant to wind effects.
# Dolphin mask: NiGHTS can change into a dolphin and explore under water.
# Rocket mask: NiGHTS takes the shape of a rocket and travels at supersonic speeds.

More specific to Wii, however, is incorporating WiiConnect24, where players can exchange "items" with one another and hook into the Forecast Channel. As a result, the in-game scenery changes based on real-life weather conditions. California and Florida gamers hoping to experience snow will probably have to change their settings!

A post of mine
So there is a NiGHTS into Dreams sequel planned to be released for Wii, check 1Up.com.

I'm really unsure about this, I'm a hardcore NiGHTS fan, and it has always been like a nice secret. I mean, there are very few hardcore Saturn fans out there, and NiGHTS isn't very popular with non-Saturn fans. Most people probably don't know it even exists. o_o;

But anyway, Yuji Naka (Original creator of Sonic and NiGHTS) isn't even working on the project. He made the original NiGHTS a masterpiece. When I was a little kid it was like going into some amazing dream each time I loaded up my Saturn. The team who is making the new NiGHTS is the team who made Shadow the Hedgehog. |:

Edit: So there are some new features to utilize WiiConnect24, like hooking into the Forecast Channel. I guess the game detects your local settings, and uses to Forecast Channel to import those predictions into your game. Like if it's raining outside at your house, it will be raining in the game. Cool feature, yes?

Something I'm not happy about is this new mask idea. (Taken from 1Up.com)

I really hope there aren't any other Saturn gems being brought to Wii's Virtual Console. Virtua Fighter 2 is already confirmed, along with 2 old Master System games.

I don't know if I'll be happy or sad about NiGHTS or another favorite, Guardian Heroes, being on the VC. Part of the fun of being a fan of these games is that it's a secret from most of the gaming world. >> [/rant]

So, discuss your opinions on the new NiGHTS game, or for you Saturn fans, discuss some of your best Saturn memories. :]

I guess I agree with you, not so much I don't want it made, just I don't want Sega to ruin it like the last couple of games they made. either way I'm still going to buy it, I also plan on buying NiGHTS for sega saturn since It'll most likely go up in price. but I just hope Journey of Dreams doesn't disapoint seeing as the only good recent Sega games I can think of are Virtua Fighter 5 and Yakuza (they need to bring the sequel along with that Fist of the north star game, and not screw up on their marketing) well hopefully they can get back on the right path with this new NiGHTS game. heh sorry for going a bit off track there. sweatdrop

You have got to be the worst guild captain about SEGA or Sonic. You have absolutely no faith.

I was once a great Guild Captain, when I didn't feel that my guild was DEAD and so I stopped going to it and seeing no posts whatsoever. As for the no faith complaint... Go ahead and blame that on these guys right here.
However, Nintendo Power seemed to make me feel better about it. It looks good so far. But still, you never can be sure with Sega... emo

IGN - NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams

Check this out everyone. And there's a video from E3 that's up. Looks nice so far. I'm really hoping they do a nice job.
