If you look in the Character Biographies section, you're going to notice something special for all the Archanum players!

SPOILER ALERT!

Stop reading NOW and check the Character Biographies section if you don't want to spoil the surprise.

First of all, the reason for this post is to hopefully eliminate any possibility of misconceptions of how this new character works.

One thing you will notice right off the bat is that this is a pretty powerful character. In fact, it might seem like suicide to go up against it. Well, even so, it's not a mistake. There is a very good reason for it. 'Nuff said.

The other thing that will jump out at you is the fact that this character's attacks are handled by Gaia's awesome dice system. Again, although some of you may frown at it, there's a very good reason behind that decision. We won't go into that.

What I'm really here to discuss is how these dice-based attacks (and the ones that don't use dice) should be handled by you.

The first thing you should keep in mind that I want to mention, even though you are all smart enough to figure this out on your own, but I will mention it anyway just to cover my a**, is... The dice rolls are done by this character, not by any character interacting with it. (Really?!)

Another thing to keep in mind, the person who is interacting (the next reply) with this character is expected to check the dice results on their own and role-play accordingly! I know this is a hair-thin line between closed action and open action (considering we don't normally RP with dice in Archanum), but again there is a very good reason for it. If you don't like it, don't RP with this character, please.

Now that I've gotten the blatantly obvious out of the way... (This is where the big spoilers come in now!)

Rock Punch, it's first attack ability, is pretty self-explanatory. If the dice lands on 2, 4, or 6, you will get hit. One important thing here to keep in mind is the fact that this attack (when it hits) applies -5 DEF to your defense stat. You should be applying this effect to yourself during your reaction. For example, if your DEF is normally 7, it will now be 2 (it can never drop below 0). RP the hit as if you have -5 less defense, i.e. you will take more damage.

Sonic Blast, is a sound-based attack. 2d10 is rolled for success rate, if the added total of both dice is greater than 5, you are knocked down, no damage taken unless you want to RP it that way. Additionally, if the result was greater than 10, you will also experience temporary hearing loss. I didn't specify a time-frame for the hearing loss, use your best judgment on that.

Demon Breath will use 2d20 dice for the attack. This one is a little more complicated, so pay close attention. We have 3 possible effects that can occur from this attack. Up to 2 effects can be inflicted at once. There is also a success rate dice roll included, so you may not be affected by anything at all if this ability fails. To start, the first dice value determines what effect(s) will be applied. The second dice value determines success. For effects, I'm going to break it down as far as it will go to avoid any confusion (no pun intended).
1-5 dizziness
6-8 dizziness AND confusion
7-12 confusion
13-15 confusion AND disorientation
16-20 disorientation

Now, these 3 effects may seem alike, and really they are quite similar so to clarify here is what each effect means:
Dizziness: Do I really have to explain? Whatever, I will anyway. You're dizzy. You will experience a whirling sensation and be prone to falling down. Your accuracy will also suffer.
Confusion: An impaired mental state where you cannot differentiate between friend or foe and as a result may accidentally harm friend, foe, or even yourself in your confusion.
Disorientation: Loss of sense of direction, position, or relationship with your surroundings, possibly even your identity

So that about covers it for Demon Breath. The success roll is pretty self-explanatory, I don't think I need to go into details.

Paralytic Burn. This one has no dice associated with it for one simple reason: It's based on whether or not the opponent comes in direct contact with the character while it's clearly stated to be defending itself with Paralytic Burn. Obviously it won't suddenly secrete anything a split second after someone has RPed trying to grab it, so I didn't think dice were necessary. If you happen to come into contact with the slime, just RP it accordingly. The most important thing to remember with this is that the information about the slime is, of course, OOC-only. Your character cannot act as if he/she is actively avoiding the slime with even a hint of this OOC knowledge involved. This should go without saying.

Meteor Crush is the most important ability this character has, because it has a chance of actually killing your character. That's right, I said it can kill you based on a dice roll. If you don't want to take this risk, avoid this character at all costs! Now moving on to the details...

Meteor Crush uses a d100 dice roll. Obviously, with an ability like this that can kill off a player's character, I didn't want it to be to easy to accomplish, and additionally made the ability something that the demon wouldn't use on a whim. First of all the description of the ability states that it will nearly always result in a kill if it hits. What that means is, if the dice result is greater than 80 you will be hit. If it's also less than 90, you can decide on your own if you want your character to live or die at that point, but do not try to RP as if your character has only minimal damage. In fact I expect some severe damage. If the result is over 90, you are now dead. Period. The only thing I will allow is a resurrection at that point, but it has to be done immediately. The character trying to resurrect cannot move the body from the immediate area before trying to resurrect, and they have to be in the immediate area at the time of death.

One point I would like to make now, is that most people will not likely be targeted by this attack, except under extreme circumstances. So don't think of it as anyone going out of their way to kill off players characters. The real reason for giving this character this ability is to discourage players from trying to take on this demon without being willing to accept the possible outcome of death. Furthermore, the demon gets some pretty severely negative side effects every time it attempts this attack. Immediately after performing the attack (successful or not), its defense will be reduced by 6 and speed reduced by 1, both for 5 rounds. In addition it will be stunned and unable to attack for the 2 rounds following a Meteor Crush attempt. To top it all off, it has to wait another 8 rounds (10 total from the time of the last attempt) before it can attempt that ability again. As you can see I tried to make it as fair as possible.

The Skills

Accelerated Healing. Self-explanatory.

Immunity to Terra. Terra=Earth, so ground and earth-based attacks are ineffective against this character.

Immunity to Mind. Mind spells are ineffective. This means no "calming" or charming or any other spell that would normally effect an opponent's state of mind or anything similar.

Immunity to Poison. "Terrestrial" poisons are ineffective. This means anything common to Terra, natural or man-made.

The Stats

Last but not least, the stats. Basically, just reference these stats when interacting with this character. Obviously a character with STR of 14 can do a lot of damage. Use common sense and good judgment about the stats. Compare them to your own always and judge for yourself how the difference should be applied.

Final note:
Please keep in mind that abilities are just that, abilities. Not a complete list of everything the character can do. It can still punch, kick, grab, bite, claw, and etc as normal.

If you have questions about the mechanics of abilities or other data posted here, reply here. If you have OOC comments, questions or anything else not relating to the information listed here, please reply to the character's biography!

So can we set up a situation to confront this guy or are you going to?

Characters in Archanum are welcome to try anything they like, just keep in mind you can't force another character (NPC or not) into anything (including forcing it's presence). Search for it, hunt it, call it by name, do whatever you wish. Whether or not you will meet the demon face to face is yet to be seen. I won't give any details beyond that.

Actually, I will say this. If someone genuinely puts in a lot of RP to somehow put themselves in a position to eventually encounter the demon, at some point I won't be able to ignore such efforts. Do not confuse the last statement as "make a few posts about trying to hunt this demon and you will eventually fight it," because in a case where a person(s) searches for the demon, I would expect a LOT of RP on it. Even then it's up to me.

Impress me enough, and I may have to send Gruumar after you. Aside from that, completely irregardless of any character's actions, I have other devious plans for the demon...

No more clues!!

Let's get the party started!!!

Gruumar has been virtually unchallenged for months, so to amp up the quest event a bit I'm offering a FULL SET of Monthly Collectible letters from the month the quest ends to whomever defeats Gruumar. Yes, you heard me right. A full set. That means you get a minimum of 2 letters (possibly 3 if there are 3 items to choose from that month) if you complete the quest!

Again.... Happy hunting!! xd

Sorry about the delays with Gruumar lately. I'll try to be more prompt about it, now that we actually have someone RPing with him! xd
