Pre-story History:
Born in 1261 on the tenth of April, in Hokkaido during the Kamakura Period. He lived with a few others of the Kako clan, in a den near the local lake. Shigure was well loved and praised by his family for his keenness and intelligence, but was insanely jealous of the better-off Yamakos living nearby, furious at the fact that the Yamakos lived like nobility while the Kakos lived as peasants. He was determined to show them up, and when he met one of the younger sons of the Yamakos, Fubuki, he immediately struck up a rivalry with the other kitsune. They clashed blades when Shigure was 38, and the resulting defeat drove Shigure to the road to seek out a new life – and continue to hone his skills.
He fought as a mercenary soldier in many minor battles, but was exposed as a fox after only eighty years of this behaviour. Shigure was almost boiled alive by angry villagers, and was eventually saved by a squad sent by Kokouko Kako, the head of the Kakos, whisking him to another island of Japan.
Following this, Shigure assumed his old nomadic ways again, but never forgave Kokouko for, as he saw it, ‘sacrificing his dignity’. He eventually joined a small ground of rogue samurai, and quite enjoyed this period of his life, filled with risk and mystery. On his travels and during his training, Shigure encountered many of the other families, suffering more unfairness from the ranking system. By the sixteenth century, Shigure Kako had developed a craving for power and a morbid plan for world domination and conquest of the suppressing higher families and inane humans.
In 1533, Shigure fought Kokouko in the Kakos’ domain. After a full two days and nights of fighting, Shigure was thrown from the realm back into the real world, his face and upper torso torn to shreds. He was sitting on a rock stitching his wounds in the aftermath of this when he met Kokoro, a curious Kiko who had happened to spot him. They talked for a while, and Kokoro left, leaving Shigure on his own. Still with the fury of defeat, Shigure turned his entire body into a canvas, having a giant tattoo of his fox-self, idolised with nine tails, printed into his body.
He encountered Kokoro again a few months later, and they spent much time together, forming a friendship that developed into love. Ten years later, they decided to marry. However, their wedding was put to a sudden end by the Kiko family, who stormed the ceremony, wounding Shigure and taking Kokoro back to their domain. Shigure never saw her again.
Scarred from his experiences, Shigure left on the next trading ship to Europe. By the twentieth century, he had made his way to Rome. A few years later in Venice, he was involved in a brief but passionate romance with an Italian woman, Maria, only to have her fall from their home’s balcony and drown. Agonising at the tragedy of it all, Shigure reassumed his travelling nature and by the turn of the century was living in a small illusionary world attached to an apartment block in Beroborough.
He still wishes for world domination, but knows he can’t even dream of it without defeating Kokouko. In the meantime, he sits and waits; a closet megalomaniac.
During the story:
- annoyed to wits end
- first arc's protagonist
- only person with any sense
- teaches main hero sword play
- attacked by his fiancé and her brother
- sleeps with a cat (she looked like a person at the time...)
- generally unappreciated
- kind of a anti-hero
Uh... that's probably not it, but it'll do since I have to go now...
