--Races--

Oaxu is filled with many magnificent races. Each and every one of them is different in their own way. But also, each of them has their counterpart. The dark, and the light. Supposedly a balance, but really it has only brought conflict.

Each race looks different, behaves different, and even has different abilities or sometimes, powers. Here you'll find all of the races and everything that you need to know about them. Each race has chosen the art of an Oaxuian who's appearance represents the appearance of that race very well, and includes information such as their appearance, personality, powers, and more.

--The Crows--

Alignment :: Dark
Most Known For :: Their cruelty and thinking they are the superior race.
Famous Crows :: Lex and Dyn, the Crow duo responsible for many mishaps around Oaxu.

Appearance :: Typically the Crows are born with hair of black or white, with piercing red eyes. They are known to be tall, thin, and fiercly beautiful, but deadly. Physicaly they are very strong. Some Crows are born with wings, though it's an uncommon factor. Usually only powerful lines of Crows are born with wings, and such a thing gives a Crow higher status. But very few are known to have wings these days, though at one point it is rumored that they once were all born with wings. All Crows are born with horns, usually those of a rams.

Abilities and Powers :: The Crows are very strong, both physically and mentally. Their most known ability is that to shift into any bird of their liking. Crows and ravens have been their favorite birds of choosing from the beginning, thus their name. It has been suspected that the Crows have mental abilities, such as controlling things or people with their minds, amongst other things that are unknown to anyone but the Crows. That however, is again only a rumor, and only the Crows themselves know if it is true or not. If it is true, it would only be found in the most elderly or powerful of Crows. It is said that Lex possesses such powers, and her partner in crime, Dyn, is stronger than even the strongest of Crows.

Behaviour :: The Crows are by far the most evil of all the races. They tend to think they are in charge of all, the superior ones. And they have always, always been the most feared. They keep to the forests mostly, and are said to live in the tallest of trees, so far up that it would be impossible to see their homes from the forest floor. But when they do come into towns, they bring trouble with them. The Crows show their evil spirits early on in childhood, almost from birth. It seems the only ones they get along with are of their own race, though they bicker quite often as well. As they grow older, their evil shows through even more, as they try to conquer the other races. This is becoming easier as the Goddess' magic grows weaker.

History :: The Crows came into existance with the other races of Oaxu, born along side the Sarus, their Light counterparts. From the start they were not trusted, for their personalities showed their greedy minds too well. Everyone could see that they would be the first to start the war between Dark and Light. And so they did. Quite often they would drag the Children of Light into their territory, torture them, make them slaves. Sometimes, they would even kill. In time, everyone grew to fear the Crows. These beautiful, but deadly, evil creatures. And to this day they continue to wreak havoc on all of Oaxu whenever an opportunity arises.

--The Sarus--

Alignment :: Light
Most Known For :: Their kindness and their beautiful wings.
Famous Sarus :: None, though it is suspected that the Goddess created the Sarus in her likeness.

Appearance :: Usually the Sarus are born with pale flesh and red hair. They are bulkier than their counterparts, despite the fact that they're named of the graceful cranes. Wings are a very common thing to find a Sarus to have. Usually beautiful white wings. Rarely will you see a Sarus without wings. Like the Crows, they too are very beautiful, and have been described as "angelic".

Abilities and Powers :: Like their counterparts, the Sarus can shift into bird shape. They prefer the crane, obviously, as well as other white birds. They possess no other abilities besides this. Individual Sarus may be stronger or smarter than the others, but there are no abilities or powers besdies their ability to shift into bird form. This can be a disadvantage against their evil counterparts. However, they have used their ability to shift into a bird to change into Crows so as to fool their counterparts and discover their hideouts and the like without the Crows finding out.

Behaviour :: The Sarus are much more interactive than the Crows. They love to be around others and are much more kind. They have always been known for helping people, and usually they are the ones who go out in disguise as spies to help their side when something is at foot. Otherwise they will rarely stand up against the Crows or others of the Dark, because usually it ends in failure for them. Many Sarus live near the water, and so you can often find them in groups by waterfalls or streams.

History :: It was said that the Goddess Oaxu created the Sarus in the likeness of herself, because she too was angelic and blessed with beautiful wings. When they were born alongside the Crows, the Sarus were instantly kind and helpful. When the war between Dark and Light started to show, they were sadened, and many tried to help at first. They tried and they tried to show everyone that the battle was wrong, and pointless, but never did they succeed, and after they began to simply act as spies and partake in inside jobs rather than fight.

--The Anwen--

Alignment :: Dark
Most Known For :: Their extreme acrobatic abilities and stealth.
Famous Anwen :: None.

Appearance :: They are born with ears quie like those of a cats, though longer and flopping down instead of sticking up, and extremely long and very strong prehensile tails. They usually have grey or blue hair and eyes. They are small and physically weak other than their tails. Most are tall but still small and thin. Some are born with fur, and others are completely human in appearance save their tails and ears. If born with fur, their fur could be the color of skin or blue or grey like their hair and eyes. It varies from Anwen to Anwen.

Abilities and Powers :: Their biggest strength is their ability to camouflage instantly. They, along with their clothes or weapons or whatever else they are wearing or carrying, can seemingly disapear entirely as they blend in with their surroundings. To make up for their weaknesses, they are quite fast and acrobatic. Almost cat-like, they are. They are very agile, and have very strong senses of hearing and sight.

Behaviour :: While they are the Dark counterparts, the Anwen really aren't as evil as most of the Dark races. Some of the Anwen have been known, despite their less than cruel behavior, to join up in bands of assassins or theives. This is simply because, with their small bodies, agility and camouflaging abilities, these jobs suit them perfectly. Anwen are actually quite playful and much fun to be around. However you can rarely trust an Anwen you don't know, because of their history of work in less than friendly occupations.

History :: When the Anwen were born, only their coloring told the rest of Oaxu that they were the Dark and the Ehalu the light. They were that much alike in their behaviour and friendliness. When conflict arose, everyone thought that the Anwen would either take no part in the fighting, or team up with the Light. They were neither right nor wrong. Many of the Anwen refused to fight. The others however, did fight, but on the inside. They joined up in bands of assassins to take out important Light leaders, thus giving many of them a bad name. The Anwen were named because of their slight resemblance to cats. Named by the Crows, actually. They were told, when they were born, that they looked like "Anwere". Felines. There was a slight resemblance but because it was only so little, they adopted the name "Anwen" instead.

--The Ehalu--

Alignment ::
Most Known For ::
Famous Ehalu ::

Appearance :: The Ehalu look quite similar to the Anwen, however they are usually born with blonde or white hair and white or gold eyes. They also have flopping ears, but their tails are shorter and less strong than those of the Anwen. Also the opposite of the Anwen, they are more physically strong and somewhat larger, as well as slower.

Abilities and Powers :: The Ehalu, as said, are stronger than the Anwen, but slower. Their senses of sight and hearing are better than many, but not so great as the Anwen. They do have a strong sense of smell, however. They are able to make themselves intangible, so as to walk through solid objects. This is often a great aid when escaping someone of the Dark, because they could simply walk through walls or trees or anything of the like with only a thought.

Behaviour :: They are known to like to have fun, much like the Anwen, and are actually even more friendly than they. They are very trustworthy however, unlike their counterparts, as they have had quite a clean history in the way of likeable occupations. Even so, a great deal of the Ehalu have taken up jobs as shopkeepers, and a good deal of them work in other respectable jobs in the towns because they have always held a great sense of responsibility. That is why their population in towns are in higher numbers than others.

History :: Much like the Anwen, instantly the Ehalu took to being playful and friendly, but with a higher sense of responsibility than their counterparts. They built most of the towns, and that's why nowadays the majority of towns are populated mainly by Ehalu, and mostly all the shops are run by them. Their true feelings on the war varies, because while some want nothing to do with it, others take great interest in fighting the war.

--The Hazuiel--

Alignment :: Dark
Most Known For :: Their pranks, ability to shrink themselves, and mastery of contortionism.
Famous Hazuiel :: None

Appearance :: Hazuiels are, for the most part, very unique from one another. They are normally born not with hair, but with a longer tuft of fur atop their head. They are occassionally born with hair, or sport wigs - but not generally speaking. It is very common for their eyes to be two different colours; generally purple, green, or pink. Their tongues are long and prehensile, as are their tails.
Females of the species have pouches, as well as tufts of fur at the ends of their ears and tails. All appear to be a hooved creature cross-bread with a normal mammal or the occasional marsupial, with something crazy mixed in. It is also very normal for them to sport horns and spikes.

Abilities and Powers :: The Hazuiel are, generally speaking, not very strong. They're not built for battle - but rather pranks and trickery. They're very agile and sneaky, and most are skilled contortionists by the time they reach adulthood. They all have the ability to shrink themselves to very tiny sizes - but not grow larger than their actual height.

Behaviour :: When younger, Hazuiel are very kind and playful. As they mature they grow to hate lights, as they are told to. They play pranks on anyone and everyone who isn't a Hazuiel - including the Crows. Often picking fights they'll never win, they weasel their way out of it by shrinking themselves. They are very animalistic, and usually quite uncivilized - however they absolutely hate to be dirty or smelly and can often be found bathing more than once a day.
They often live in packs, similar to the fashion of wolves. There are, however, the loners and bad seeds.

History :: The Hazuiel don't care much about anyone but themselves, and with good reason. Most seem to believe that the Hazuiel were created for the amusement of the rest of the Oaxuians since they appear to have no 'real' skills. But they are very proud of themselves and who they are - and will gladly deal a swift kick to the chest if you make fun of them. Their heavy hooves will be sure to make it something you won't soon forget.

--The Katous--

Alignment :: Light
Most Known For :: Their skills in Alchemy/White Magic.
Famous Katous :: None

Appearance :: Katous are all anthropomorphic felines with fur colour that matches the species they're portrayed as. Most are of the 'house cat' genre, but there are some 'big cats'. Unlike their dark counterpart, it's fairly common for the Katous to be born with hair. They enjoy wearing very 'sorcerer'-esque clothing, usually very ornate and whimsicle.

Abilities and Powers :: Most Katous don't believe in battling or wars - they're usually the ones cleaning up after the mess, so to speak. It's quite common for Katous to be a town's healer/doctor.

Behaviour :: Katous are very kind and gracious - one of the more noble species. They are also very soft-spoken or generally silent and believe that actions speak louder than words. Young Katous are generally very wild and playful - as most children are - but as they reach their teenaged years, they begin to slow down and study magic more closely. A few may try to study the dark arts in a typical teenaged phase, but it's almost always short-lived.

History :: The Katous were said to be created to be the healers of the world.. There to care for other Oaxu when they fell ill, or got on in years and reached their end. Though in recent years it appears they're more used for cleaning up after Dark's 'fun', and battles that occur.

--The Chordas--

Alignment :: Light
Most Known For :: Their abilities to talk to plants and their family-orientated lifestyle.
Famous Chordas :: None.

Appearance :: They are usually dull colours such as gray and browns, although some light shades of blue and green have been noticed. All Chordas are born with a single pale horn on their forehead, and long rabbit-like ears. They also have cloven hooves much like the Hazuiel. Chorda usually dress quite modestly and use a lot of natural materials in thier clothing. They take dyes from plants and minerals and many female Chordas are quite skilled at making clothes. Chordas also sport a tufted tail like a rabbits or a deers.

Abilities and Powers :: Chordas have a natural ability to communicate with plants. Most are brought up with an extensive knowledge of their natural enviroment. With thier nimble frames they can blend in with forest enviroments well and can merge in with the trees. Even the senses of the Crows can miss a Chorda in its natural surroundings.

Behaviour :: Chordas are quite reclusive and tend to stick to their treetop homes. They value their family life greatly and treat all family members equally. A Chorda may be exiled for a great sin. To which all knowledge of their existance within the colony is removed and forgotten, and their horn removed. Most Chordas are exiled for homosexuality, and once exiled are made to never set foot in any Chorda colony, most take refuge in small towns living a life of solitude. Chordas and Zymphs get on quite well for dark and light counterparts and are both very religious. Nearby Zymph and Chorda colonies will even gather for important religious days of the calendar. True not many words are spoken between both parties but they have their mutual understandings.

History :: Both the Chordas and the Zymph do not believe there is any need for war. They live pretty much inside thier own little bubble for the time bieng sat high in thier peaceful forests. It is the way its always been and they take no interest in the battles raging in towns and cities, although the younger generation are beginning to be tempted by the city lights and the tales of great battles between Crows and Sarus. They believe if they were to join the war it would be to fight for the Goddess. It will only be so long before the battle arrives on the Chordas doorstep and they will have to make a move sooner or later.

--The Zymph--

Alignment :: Neutral/Dark
Most Known For :: Their hunting skills and their masks worn outside their colonies, and their ability to talk to plants. The way that Zymph stick in groups when hunting or when out trading.
Famous Zymph :: None.

Appearance :: The Zymph are slightly Larger framed than the Chordas and have a little more variation in colour, from deep dark blacks to moss greens. The Zymph also sport horns wich resemble a rams twisted horns. Females have smaller horns than males. The Zymph also have cloven hooves and the tufted tails. Their ears also resemble rabbits at birth but some cut the ears of thier children at birth so they resemble the smaller ears of the anwen so that thier ears are not a burden later in life when hunting. Zymph clothing can be more modern as they venture into towns to trade. Whenever Zymph are away from their colony, be it hunting or trading they all wear masks. These masks are made to resemble dark spirits of the forests. They can vary from simple in design to quite flamboyant. For thie reason it is very rare to have ever seen a Zymphs face. Most folk assume they look very much like the Chorda.

Abilities and Powers :: Zymph can also communicate with plants and use this greatly to their advantage when hunting. They also can move very swiftly and unnoticed through forests like the Chorda. They are stronger than the Chorda and are slightly more barbaric.

Behaviour :: For their garish and unsettling image in towns, Zymph are not particularly violent. They keep to themselves and prefer to keep it that way. They are however given a bad image for thier territorial nature. Hunting on Zymph land is not taken lightly, with some returning with their bow-fingers removed or their hand completely gone. Zymph are also quite family-based with siblings forming hunting groups. They also look out for each other to the point of madness. Zymph will give their lives for each other which makes them fearsome fighters. Chorda and zymph can co-exisit on the same territory with no problems. Zymph and Chorda have been known to shelter each others lost young. One of the more uncommon life choices for exiled Chorda is to join a Zymph colony, usually the sin is of murder.

History :: Zymph have always lived in forests and will continue to do so. The war does not interest them as they see it as a battle between outsiders. During trading they have been known to get involved in outside affairs while in towns. Although most of the fighting takes place in towns for now and there is still a bond between the Chorda and Zymph, can it last through though?

--The Wraiths--

Alignment :: Dark
Most Known For :: Feeding off of souls.
Famous Wraiths :: Orriet; Head Captain of the Circle of the Upholders

Appearance :: Wraiths come in many different colors, and in some cases, many different shapes. A noteable trait about the Wraiths are their tails, which were nonexistant while they were Dreids; some are long and prehensile, lined with a combination of feather-fur that matches the color of their hair and wing feather-fur. Their hair, in any form, can come in many different colors and some Wraiths have known to be 'born' with two seperate colors in their hair at once, fading between eachother like a gradient. Most wings on Wraiths are small and illformed, not meant for flying but more for show, though wings vary in sizes just as tails do so there have been some rare cases where Wraiths were able to fly, though none of them have been alive for some time. In total, Wraiths can have from two to three fingers, plus a thumb on each hand; they do have claws, those they are hidden beneath the skin despite how sharp they are, quite unlike the claws on their feet. They are akin to those of something you may expect on a dinosaur, three toes, two large front claws and one slightly smaller duclaw on the inside.

The eyes of Wraiths, on any other creature, might appear dead, but because of the souls they ingest there is a natural glow to them, proving life. There are no pupils in their eyes and they are normally one color, enveloping the entire eye, from the iris to the 'whites'. Another noteable feature is their elongated canines, giving them the appearance of having fangs, those these are nothing more than a trait brought over from the Dreids who were natural hunters and carnivores. Skin color varies from Wraith to Wraith in the form of different blues, greens and, on a rare occasion, purples. Albinos are also not unheard of in this race, them having no pigment in their skin and hair but vibrant, pink eyes. Hair and eye color, however, have been known to come in just about any sort of shade, pigment or mixture with virtually no constraints.

Abilities and Powers :: Be especially careful of kissing these buggers; not many Wraiths do this, but there is always the off chane you'll meet the one that does. Every Wraith has the power to drain a persons soul. It just so happens that the process through doing this, which must be voluntary on their part (so normal kissing is possible) is through mouth contact of the prey.

Behaviour ::

History :: At the same time the other races were created, the Dreid were born along side of them; but with no Dark counterpart to speak of. It stayed the same until the war between Light and Dark began... and then something occurred that seems more to be a rumor now, then anything. The Crows, angered by this "pure" race having tipped the scales by having no Dark, gathered them all up from all over Oaxu and over the course of six years slaughtered them in what can only be described as mass genocide. The Dreid were taken entirely off the world from the Crow's rage... but this mistake in Oaxu's magic was not left unchecked. Because the Goddess had not created a Dark counterpart for these creatures, her magic did the job for her after her disappearance.

The Dreids were risen from the dead, changed, altered, and with a catch--their physical forms are now highly unstable and need to be sustained by a constant force that is in every living creature. They are now Wraiths, feeding on souls to keep their semi-undead bodies intact so that they may not join those which they count as food.

Credit goes to the Spectral Realm for the inspiration of this race.
