Good day, fellow Gaians.
This threadstarter is being reproduced in it's original format here. The reason for this is simple; it didn't amount to a goddamned thing when I first created it, as it dwindled in the E.D. that it was poised to discuss (probably because it had nothing whatsoever to do with the paradigms I outlined in it) and was eventually moved to an entirely different forum, making it inaccessible to the people that I wished to reach.
So, I present it here again, unmodified and unabridged.
I am a proponent of intelligent argument. Nothing gives me greater hope than seeing individuals coming together and expressing knowledge in a heated debate with no clear solution. It helps me to see that there are human beings in this world who place great emphasis in educating themselves, and it helps me to understand the nature of the human race, one sentence at a time.
Even though I do specifically dislike certain topics when in the context of debate, I will gladly pore over a thread in which such a topic is clearly paramount, if only so that I may read the works of educated individuals who truly wish to express their innermost beliefs and teachings.
However, I shall not be so naive as to say that there have not been occasions during which my fellow Gaians have replied to topics with little more than sparse sentences with little depth and no educational value. Many a time have I seen pleasing topics get flooded with one-shot comments and off-subject posts, most of those being unintelligible and without a true degree of literate value.
The other variety of cases I have observed are comprised solely of threads that contain pejorative topics. For example, there have been noticed instances of threads marked by the sentence "I HATE NIGGERS". To begin to fathom this sort of activity usually requires that I dig deep inside my misanthropic half and find reasoning to prevent me from tracking these sorts of individuals down and mercilessly killing them. However, their rights are protected under free speech, so my hand is often stayed. Similar to such thread topics are topics that are relevant in the context of mainstream subjects (religion, politics, etc.), but are poorly executed. For example, there have been threads in which the first thread is merely as simple as "i belive that god is rael and u shud believ in him 2".
These underlined examples are absolutely outrageous, but they are a startling example of what the Extended Discussion forums are becoming. Maybe it's just a sample of what they have already become? The buck doesn't stop here. It stopped before it got here, actually.
Continuing on, the subject matter of the topics seen most commonly are divided along several overall subjects, but the largest volume of cases all fall into the following categories:
-The rights of homosexuals in Western societies -The condition of the African-American community in Western societies -The abortion debate and all manner of associated minutia -The existence of God and all manner of associated minutia -The relevance of specific kinds of lifestyle choices in society (observations about being "Emo", sex life observations, etc.)
I am really intensely sick and tired of these subjects. So, I have posted here today.
To begin, I would like to first outline my goals and objectives for this thread and the discussions I am sure will follow in the wake of this post.
1: I want to begin to uncover new, possibly popular subjects for E.D. threads that do not follow the normal paradigms of the forum as it exists today
2: I want to address the need to cut the circular arguments being made in the E.D. out of the reasoning patterns of the people (for example, the constant assertion that any person, living or dead, has ever either proven or debunked the existence of a living God, and that it can be done so easily by just anyone*). We've got to get people to stop going over the same damn things over and over again and getting nowhere all the same.
3: I want to be able to help people understand that it is okay to admit that we as individuals do not have the answers to every mystery in the world today and that our viewpoints may not always be right. Also, we do not always HAVE to be right, and admitting defeat when one is stumped or saving face if one is truly defeated is honorable and noble.
4: I want people to understand that their viewpoint is not ultimately right by proxy of it being theirs. What works for one does not work for all, and to assert that one's self is the ultimate authority on a topic is selfish vanity that very rarely has any base to stand on.
These goals underlined, I say we begin the topical discussion and commence the day.
Have at it, my friends.

Hey, don't forget about vegetarianism.
But yes, there should be more varied topics. Not only that, but every subsequent topic made generally gets less and less intelligent.

This topic got hosed.
Like a team of Water-types up against a Raikou. >_>
And I don't usually make references like that. At all.
