because i actually wanted to have a good chat on this philosophy/religion. knee-jerk reaction that many still have from their Christian eras is "oh noes, teh evil". meanwhile, some others might think that a Satanist worships the devil. others would then counter that a Satanist doesn't. while the first is rather speculative as it is subjective on one's perspective of "evil", the latter two are correct. how can a Satanist worship the devil and not worship the devil? there are (basically) two types of Satanism; theistic and atheistic (symbolic). atheistic Satananists don't worship a god, theistic do. personally, i'm not well versed on the many types of theistic, so i will leave you with a couple of sites that i found interesting - [ cite], [ cite] although it's Wikipedia, it seems to cover some of the stuff others do, [ cite]. with atheistic/symbolic Satanism, it seeks to counter the common concepts of Christianity; charity, give until it hurts, abstinance, etc. where Christianity preaches love to all, Satanism preaches only to those that deserve it [ Satanic Statements taken from Satanism Homepage]. what are your thoughts on either of these practices? what experiences have you had with any proclaiming to belong? would you take some of their practices or beliefs and add them to your own? i will speak from personal experience, i have actually incorporated the Satanic Rules and the Satanic Sins in my practice, as they match much of what i believe and represent an ideal i enjoy.

Hi all! Just saw this thread and tought I needed to add... I am Drui Noson of the New Order of Druids. I have been a Neo-Pagan, mostly Druid with some Celtic Wicca and a few other ones, for about 4 years now. I've also been a Satanist for the past 2 years, perhaps slightly less. About half of my time as a Satanist was spent as theistic, but I have become a Laveyan (Atheistic) Satanist. I simply refer to myself as a Modern Satanist (nice term for Atheistic/Symbolic Satanist) and claim the Modern Church of Satan as my Church. I'll state here that because of the two religions, I am very Humanistic, so there are very few disputes between the two religions, with me living a Humanistic moral life, based on both. I will also add my beliefs about the Gods: I 'worship' the Tuatha de Danann, with 7 deities making up my main pantheon. These, I see, as ego projections of personified humanistic/scientific/philosophical concepts that, by self identification with, I hope to further self improvemen. I don't worship the gods, just revre what they represent to me. Sometimes I see them as almost supernatural concepts, but with scientific explination. If anyone has any questions about any form of Satanism, please P.M. me or put it on the thread and I'll answer.
Here are some VERY good links I've seen while searching Satanism:
Modern/Atheistic Modern Church of Satan: www.modernchurchofsatan.com (Laveyan) Chruch of Satan: www.churchofsatan.com Church of Apeiron: www.coa.altervista.org/home.htm
Theistic/traditional: First Church of Satan: www.churchofsatan.org Church of Azazel: www.theisticsatanism.com/CoAz/ A theistic Satanism Page created by Church of Azazel Founder: www.theisticsatanism.com
Luciferian-worship/symbolism of Lucifer: Ordo Luciferi: www.ordo-luciferi.org/ Neo-Luciferian Church: www.neoluciferianchurch.org/ Ordo Templi Luciferi:www.theordotempliluciferi.com/ Google these and see what you come up with: "order of the Black Rose", "Church of Lucifer"
Hope these Help razz

Glah, maybe I am just reading this all to late, but I am still confused v.v ReverendSam I will also add my beliefs about the Gods: I 'worship' the Tuatha de Danann, with 7 deities making up my main pantheon. These, I see, as ego projections of personified humanistic/scientific/philosophical concepts that, by self identification with, I hope to further self improvemen. One question, I thought that the Tuatha de Danann weren't deities but beings akin to the fae? Like, the first beings of the land kind of thing. Now I am confussed on two planes. I need to go read my mythologies again x.x

But Yes I am I mix of Atheistic Satanism, Celtic Druid and Celtic Wicca and I live a more moral life than most of My Christian friends. If you could Come up with more information that would be great.

Yeah, I think if you went around and asked the majority of "down-to-earth" pagans, you'd find that that vast majority of them had some sort of Modern Satanic Philosophy incorperated into their life. I've even known Christians who admit to having a Laveyan look at life!( I'm not sure of their reasoning for this, but whatever works...) Just shows that if a few christians can admit to satanism, one should consider how many pagans would! BTW, everyone should look at the first church of satan webiste...the trad is an interesting mix of neo-paganism and Laveyan thought. (www.churchofsatan.org)
Have fun dudes! razz

A god friend of mine is very interested in satanism. He isn't, as such a satanist, but he likes the idea of it and thinks it'd be a fun religion (overall I think he's just too lazy for a religion, and he doesn't really believe it...).
The gist of it that he gave me was that it was very much based upon instinct and base impulses eg. anger, passion...
It reminded me of the sith code: peace is a lie, there is only passion, through passion I gain strength, through strength I gain power, through power I gain victory, through victory my chains are broken, the force shall free me...
It's sad I know that xp

The Satanic Rules and statements pretty much represent the way I think, though I came across the ideas on my own, as many Pagans have. Um, except for the first one. I tend to give opinions or advice when I probably shouldn't wink . The Satanic Sins are exactly the ones I hold myself as "sinful" (which I didn't know until I looked them up just now). I don't consider myself a Satanist, being a polytheist myself, despite holding quite a few of the same ideals. But, I've long thought that, had I not discovered Paganism first, I might have become a Satanist. It's probably a good thing I didn't. They get more s**t than we do. undacuva_druid It reminded me of the sith code: peace is a lie, there is only passion, through passion I gain strength, through strength I gain power, through power I gain victory, through victory my chains are broken, the force shall free me... It's sad I know that xp Is it sadder that I didn't know that, and now love you for telling me? sweatdrop Go the Sith!

From what I hear there have now tended to be two schools of thought on Satanism.
There's "The Old School" Satanists And then Ther's the New Commercialized Satanism that Antione LeVey has created.
Old Followers say that he's kind of bastardized the teachings to "Try and make them more acceptible to the public."
I don't know, I haven't really studied enough to understand correctly.

I don't know, I haven't really studied enough to understand correctly. I'm not in the subject and I came across it not long time ago, but I heard kinds opposed opinion, that the real (atheistic) are trying to shake of that childish (dark, evil, etc) look of their philosophy. I’m finding it bit funny (or maybe more than bit razz –no offence).
