Is anyone a fan or open-minded enough to listen to experimental music?

It's sort of what I specialize in. Everything Mike Patton, Devin Townsend, etc, etc.

A few of my favorite "experimental" bands are:

Mr. Bungle
Faith No More
Strapping Young Lad
Devin Townsend Band
Tomahawk
Fantomas
Peeping Tom
PJ Harvey
Radiohead
Skiny Puppy

And many more!

So, what about you? Listen to something you think I've never heard of? Got something you think I'd be into?

Post it up!

I love Strapping Young Lad because they're just so unrelenting, and The Devin Townsend Band because that's where Devy gets really creative.

That's a great list of bands.

Do you like fringe/experimental?

Have you heard "unicorn" or "manisthebastardnoise"?

unicorn is not to be confused with "the unicorn", an entirely different band.

I have not. I'm pretty daring, though.

My favorite band being Faith No More, I'm predisposed to an open-minded view of music. I even listen to some rap. I love Depeche Mode.

I even listen to Venetian Snares and other such "noise" bands.

I <3 noise rock

but my favorite is drone. There is actually an album manisthebastardnoise and Unicorn did together, there is a track on there called kelbaker road, it's excellent drone. you get the right kind of drone track and you go do anything while listening to it on headphones and everything seems really cinematic.

for awhile i was awake only during the night because of my job. when i would go grocery shopping i would have kelbaker road on repeat and listen to it through my headphones while walking to and from the store and grocery shopping. it was really neat. the track is really haunting.

if you like rap have you listened to Aesop Rock?

I've never heard of any of those bands so I can't say I know if this would fit your tastes, but if you're into experimental stuff, try Of Montreal if you haven't, or Architecture in Helsinki.

I've heard of most of those other then Tomahawk. Heh, I know most of them include Mike Patton or Devin Townsend.

I haven't been able to hear much Strapping Young Lad, but I really liked their cover of Judas Priest's Exciter. An ex of mine is really into SYL, so maybe I'll ask them to play me some.

I don't mind FNM, but fantomas and Mr. Bungle sounded too "disjointed" to me. I wouldn't deny that its "interesting" and certainly not "bad" its just not really what im into.

You might like Hella, I have a friend thats really into experimental kinda stuff like that and when he played Hella for me, it sorta reminded me of that style.

Have you ever heard of Godspeed You Black Emperor? I don't know if I'd call them "experimental" but they do have a really neat sound to them you might like, more soft and melodic though.
