Mine is anubis. Firstly because he is a jackal and secondly because he was the guardian of the dead, who greeted the souls in the Underworld and protected them on their journey. I think that's pretty cool

I also love Hathor, because everything about her is beautiful

Thoth. All the way. He's just totally bomb, and soooo underrated.

OMG, (sigh) My favorite Egyptian Gods/Goddesses? (thinks for a bit) well I have to admit Anubis ROCKS! Yeah he has to be my absolute favorite! But I do have other favorites. Such as Ra, Horus, Thoth, Sekmet, Bast/Bastet, Isis, Nemphys, and Osiris.

Have you ever noticed that the story Osiris mirrors the story of Christ (well at least the cruscifixion and ressurection part). See, Osiris was murdered by his brother, just like jesus was crucfied. Then with much help from his wife, Nemphys, he was brought back to life, just like Jesus' ressurection. The only difference is that Osiris had a wife and Jesus didn't... or did he/ That Question is still debateable, it depends on who you talk to.

I truely feel like I'm talking to people who know what I'm talking about!
This is where I belong!
heart heart I LOVE THIS GUILD!!! heart heart

I never saw the correlation before, however I kind of see it now. There are of course a few differences (the wife, the son, the whole revenge thing his son does etc.) however I think perhaps it could have been inspired (or maybe have inspired, depending on your beliefs) by the biblical beliefs there.

It sounds like Hades, and cerberus who guards the gate... but I suppose it's all in the same area and so they sort-of "borrow" eachother's myths.

anyway I like Ra. I have almost no knowledge of egyptian myths, etc. but Ra is a cool name.

There is one problem for the whole was inspired by the bible part that you pointed out and that is that the egyptians believed in this about 1000 years before christ. But I would have to say Isis. The goddess of magik. THat would have to be cool.

Mm.. Wasn't Osiris married to Isis and not Nemphys?

I'll take your word for it. But it's not so so old; the Cult of Isis and Cult of Osiris was mainly a thing of Greek- and then Roman- occupied Egypt. And, of course, the Cult of Isis was also wildly popular in non-Egyptian Greece and Rome. And Alex did his whole Egypt-thing roughly 300 years before Christ. I'm not saying it's not older than that, because it is, but that's when it got its wild popularity.

And before that era of Isis worship, the story you reference didn't really exist. Anubis used to be the god of the dead, but he was later replaced by Osiris, and Anubis got relegated to merely embalming as a consolation prize. And in the early days, Anubis was generally recognized as being Set's son by Nephtys (not Osiris').

And to believe that Anubis is Osiris' son is just crazy, as Anubis and Set are both ancient ancient deities, much older than Osiris, and they trace their origins back to the prehistoric animal worship of the Egypt area. Even Horus is an older deity than Osiris (and Horus was the original husband of Isis, before he too got pushed aside by Osiris).

In summary, Osiris likes to steal other gods' identities, and that's why everybody thinks he's so important xd

While there are certainly similarities between Osiris and Jesus (let's not forget that Osiris was sealed in a tree in death, as Jesus was also crucified on wood and, in some popular beliefs, a tree), this resonates with several other stories as well. For example, the story of Odin hanging on Yggdrasil for 9 days is suspiciously similar to the story of Christ. However, if you want to draw a fierce parallel, try looking up the story of the Persian God of Light, Mithras. He was even born on "Christmas." Getting chills yet? razz

PS: Horus ftw.
