This is a thread for either players or gms to discuss different styles they personally enjoy, or new styles they wish to try but need a little help with planning it. The discussion can be anything, style of environment, style of characters, style of play, The games you play, etc.
This thread is open for discussion of all tabletop roleplaying games especially since the games you play are a big part of your style of roleplaying.
For RULES rather simple. 1. Don't flame others about what style they enjoy, I mean I don't like certain styles but I'm not gonna beat someone in the head just because they do. 2. Gaia ToS (gee how did we see that one coming?) 3.No spamming no oh boy this style is fun!!11!! Please offer explanation of why you enjoy such style. 4. There are no stupid questions so please no flaming someone because they asked a question that you think everyone should know. 5.Be mature in your discussions please I can not stress this enough this goes along with the no flaming and no spamming, but it also goes into the fact of being open minded cause ignoring someone can be just as painful as flaming them just because they like a certain style.

To start this off my favorite style of roleplay is a political campaign. Main reason is because these campaigns expert abilities really shine. It can also integrate all the regular adventure and mayhem of a normal dungeon crawl. These campaigns can integrate all sorts of characters aswell even though some of them might not be directly involved with the political part.
Political campaigns also run right next to War campaigns, cause every once in a while some ruler decides hey lets knock these weaklings around and take thier land. (So thankful for heroes of battle)

I like more of the covert type. Critical strikes are above all my favorite ^^.. Well okay that and just making the npc kills itself basicly too.

Well. I like a mix of H&S and detective work.
According to Robin Laws, I`m a Tactician, so I guess I do better in settings like Exalted

The RPG method I like the most is the D20 system. Its accurate, for the most part, and easy for new players to start with. Its also easy to write campaign cenarios for D20 because of its adverse and easy gameplay.

I love Personality based games....
when I play, I care more about WHO my character is and how he/she interacts withs others than about what level they are or what magic items they have...
When I DM, I give almost as much EXP for in depth Ropleplay and such as I do for combat.... there is just as much room in my games for bluffing out of a fight than for running in swinging an ax.

I like to play the straight up epic adventure campaigns, because they allow for a little plot and character development without bogging down the game with it. I prefer percentile and 2d10 to 1d20 because it evens out the roles a little bit more, so that they aren't so extreme.

Let's see. I Like all sorts of RPGs. I like the story strong campaigns with a good amount of dungeon crawling. I like to play the socially powerful character who can stand up for themselves. I am currently playing a Bard in a sort of DnD varient. He's got the highest possible Charisma and far higher than any other player. I do a lot of focusing in on spells for mind affecting things... Basically a Dueling Hypnotist^_^. But yeah, Im a story-loving dungeoneer! Woot...^_^ So yepp... LoL. The reason I Love being the socially inclined is because I debate and barter a lot, so I took a character capable of pulling fast ones on people^_^ I tend to make many allies and friends and usually get my way... my only issue as a gamer is learning to roll with my DMs cruel twists and punches.... If you have any advice please by all means PM me^_^

First off, Kudos to Selena Taiki, because El Goonish Shive is about the most awesome thing I've ever read.
I prefer my games to be heroic epics, complete with larger than life villains, heroic sacrifices, and duels to the death in unlikely situations.
Or, there was that one LARP game where I spent the entire weekend running for my life from one disaster to the next. Being the only flat out, unaltered human in a WoD game can be... frightening. Or really good exercise.

I'm bad at doing epic just because If I build a character and the gm just thinks I'll go with whatever he gives us then problems start.
The most memoriable time is when we were working for the black claw a group planning on domination of the wastelands and using the demonic power hidden away to become gods. It was in the middle of this star patterned thief community. Well my gestalt wizard/figher got sick off the female rogue/bard bossing him around. (He lived life as royalty and got sick of people telling him what to do) So sure enough the group massacres her more off surprise since out of nowhere Rave Scythe attacks here the group wasn't too distressed.
The barbarian/fighter of the group was happy as long as he got to slice something's head off, the Cleric/Dread Necromancer made a new skeleton, and the Druid/Monk who believed in pretty much the golden rule of Survival of the fitest just shrugged his shoulders.
Now I don't do this purposely, I just play out my character sometimes they follow the story the gm wishes sometimes they don't.

And so you killed her instead of just beating the crap out of her? Truly a tragedy. In terms of Game Play style I prefer something akin to a SWAT team. Characters that work together in a coordinated fashion are substantially more effective and deadly then a loose collection of rabble. You know you have a good team when everyone agrees the motto should be, "Run away. Then come back later and burn the place down." In the terms of setting I prefer War and Intrigue settings. Settings that have an ongoing conflict offer great opportunities to engage players on an emotional level. Intrigue goes hand in hand with a war setting. Spy vs. Spy and Mr. Bond stuff, although Sherlock Holmes detective style investigations can also be fun.

Oops suppose i did fail to mention it was a npc. sweatdrop She was gestalted to make it less appealing to attack her I suppose. But yeah she wasn't a player I only fight with other people's players if they are alright with the conflict in the first place.

Oh. redface Well in that case NPCs deserve all the the punishment they get if they mouth off to a PC. It's like an extra Red Shirt on Star Trek telling Kirk how to fire a phaser.

Groups that get along are ideal, but realistically such groups are rare.... its usually interesting when a group IS a motley crew, cause then everyone has something different to brting to the table...
