Check out This BME article on surface anchors, And tell me what you think?
Let's get a discussion going here people!
What are your thoughts on surface anchors? Given the high success rate of surface anchors, do you think, in time they will edge out traditional surface piercing methods? What are you thoughts on the procedures used to implant and remove them? Do you think you'll ever get one? (Or maybe like 40? xd ) Would you take me out for a nice steak dinner? (please?)

Haha, I've already had my input on this before... but I think for a lot of piercings, these will be more popular. But surface bars will still be used a lot, like for corset piercings.

Indeed Dagon, This was ages ago in the GD, but I figured why not bring some life to this guild?
In any case, they seem to hold up well, and seems to be a great alternative to a traditional surface bar. Once I'm able to pony up $200, I'll be getting mine.

i somewhat like the looks, but at the same time, the pics they used of a third eye weren't the best, like not fully healed. Plus, the look of the actual anchors kinda scare me, after the surgery I've had, and my reaction to just about any metal. I think I'm more of an Ink person

Surface anchors are still kinda in their infancy, so they are a little on the expensive side. My piercer charges $80 per surface anchor, $50 for the actual anchor, and $30 for the procedure and ends can rage from $12 to upwards of $50 all depending on the materials used and whatnot. The anchors themselves are made by Industrial strength, and I have nothing but good things to say about their jewelry.
I know it seems like alot of money for 2 of them, But there are people out there doing what they call "Dermal anchors" which are just basically a coiled up nostril screw with a thread sticking out of it, they charge just about the same amount, and these types of "Anchors" are in no way good for you. Im planning on getting my surface anchors within the next 2 months, so I'll let you all know how it goes. biggrin

Hot dog! I think it's friggin sweet. But I still hold some reserve. I had an anti-eyebrow surface peircing, but being the uber-skinny guy that I am, it rejected really easily. (There was more cheek-bone than cheek emo ) So my biggest concern is how easily they could be... umm... forcibly expelled from the body. 3nodding Some of the comments about switching out the beads feeling like you're tearing out the peircing made me uneasy. And I'd hate for an encounter with a wall to be the end of the healing process. If they end up withstanding the test of time, I think I'd end up getting some.
... Of cource, I'd have to head out of town to get them probably. I mentioned surface bars at my regular place and they were like "surface wha?" (Always a good sign, I know sweatdrop )
Other than that, I'm all for it. They seem easy enough. 3nodding

My piercer put one in his chest. Iv'e seen him do anything and everything to try to get it to reject, Including punching himself in the chest, Directly on the microdermal, And it's still there. Im beginning to think there almost impossible to have reject.

*Grabs a defibrillator* I'm sure this was answered slightly among the Q&A and the random posts, but I'll ask anyways:
We know that they're pretty sturdy lil' things. Rejection ratio looks mighty small. What about intentional removal? I remember it mentioned minor surgury, but would it be advisable? Should these things be taken like a tattoo, something permanently* on your body? Or would it be better to give a timeline, like a point of no return for removal? And if the minor surgury would be the only thing, what about would it involve? (IE- Would you have to go to a doc or a piercer?)
I know, I'm annoying. I'll shuddup soon enough 3nodding 3nodding
* Yes, I know that with current methods (one being that nifty UV-reactive ink), tattoos can be made invisdable or removed entirely. But I'm assuming that out for the moment. 3nodding
