This thread is to ask you how you go about choosing the music you buy. I bring this thread up because a few of my friends were having a discussion on how cds just don't seem worth the $15-$20 anymore. So I was wondering if thats the case then how do people decid which cds will be worth it.
Personally I stick to bands I know I like and am on constant watch for a cd of theirs. Before I was more of a wow thats new lets buy it. That didn't last long as I realised buying like that usually gets me 1 song I like and the rest well not so much.

When I buy cd's I usually look for my absolute favorite groups, so I don't waste too much money. I also try to get limited edition and videogame/anime soundtracks, which can be hard to comeby sometimes. Another good thing to do is just borrow cd's amongst other people and then burn the cd off a computer. That's how I got a Trans Siberian Orchestra album without having to pay $25 mrgreen

Yeah thats the other thing we discussed about how since cds don't seem worth it. That more people have moved to downloading since its less of a hassle. As for the post about videogame/anime soundtracks man I wish I could find those here. Put craptastical wal-mart doesn't carry them and its the only cd place we have.....

Amazon.com is my friend....when it comes to Soundtracks. Those are all I buy, really. Anything else I'll usually download from somewhere.
Well unless its a band that I really like...then I'll buy it.

I find about new bands a lot from my favourite local indie radio station. And if the band is really interesting, I might look them up online and hear a few songs or sample on their site and what not. And if it all seems totally spectacular I'll run down to favourite local indie record store and but it. Cds are a bit cheaper there as well, since its not from some lame a** big Sam Goofy kind of store that only carries new releases and top 40 stuff.
I download too, but either to sample something im intrested in with the intent to eventually buy the whole CD. Or if its just one or two random songs I like from an artist I'd never want a full album by.

What I have a tendency to do is find out a band from a particular genre I like, then download a random assortment of their stuff. I'd say roughly 30-50% of what they have out. If I like it, I go buy it.
If I don't help support the bands I like, then how can they keep making the music I enjoy?
Too bad finding the stuff I like is difficult, since mostly where I am is the Sam Goofy Top 40 Stores.

1. Wait for a friend to buy the CD I want. 2. Borrow the CD. 3. Rip the songs and put them on my I-Pod or a disc. 4.Wait, that's legal technically, right?
Whatever works...

I end up buying from garage sales from families who have college students who left for the year. Usually I find a lot of hard rock to nu metal CDs for like a dollar.
