Shore couldn't be considered handsome, pretty, or even moderately good looking. In fact, the world often wondered why anyone liked him at all. He was wonderfully plump, he obviously led a good life, and he carried himself in a very strange and upright manner.
His lips were spread into a cocky grin, and his ears were rotated one back and one forward. All in all, it gave him a very goofy appearance, and it would probably be hard to take him seriously.
He liked to think he had multiple faces. The serious one, which came out rarely, and then the joking one, which was certainly awkward to uphold. It gave him the persona of a child, merely out to have fun.
But what, he asks the world, is life without joy and stupidity. He would rather be known as the crazy Nequus that is, than the smart one that was. It just didn't pay to be normal.
He stole across the plains of D'ob in this very manner, his trot brisk, short main catching on the hair an trying to swarm his face. It couldn't, however, because it was out of reach, and he spent a lot of his time laughing at it for being such.

Keres surfaced with a gasp and flailed at the water with her hooves. It was hard work and very ungainly but, eventually, the movement did carry her to the other side of the river. The short maned mare scrabbled out of the water and up the bank. Once on solid footing once more she gave a nervous whicker and then a sigh of relief.
"Well Keres," she said to herself, "that'll teach y' t' look where y' runnin' to, won' it? Still, least ah know ah can swim now. Kinda."
The black-coated Reya gave herself a shake to shed some of the water and snorted more out of her nostrils. Still feeling very silly, the pink-eyed being turned aside from the water and prepared to set off again when a tall figure caught her eye.
"Oh!" Bugger. She'd thought nobody had seen her. "Hia there." Well wasn't he an odd looking one; pretty colours though. "M' name's Keres... the river was a bit closer than ah thought it was." The Reya finished her statement with an embarrassed grin and scuffed lightly at the ground. "Silly, hu?"

Shore chuckled lightly. He'd never fallen into a river himself. . . okay so he had, but that didn't have anything to do with the topic of conversation.
"Shore," he responded in his blunt fashion with a nod of his head. He wasn't used to getting the names first. Normally he'd have to ask, most of the time he never even got one. He supposed it was his curse.
He didn't respond to the question of whether it was silly or not, he just kept grinning - like a stupid man. At least she wasn't yellow, that would be a disaster.
"Do you get wet often?" he asked with a wink.

Keres blinked at the stallion; very odd guy. "Err... Well ah get wet when it rains," the mare offered, "sometimes ah go paddling in the water too but that's the first time ah fell right into a river. Knowin' me it won' be the last though." Why was he grinning like that? Was he just a bit nuts or did she had something stuck to her?
The vivid-eyed mare tried, and failed, to check herself over surreptitiously. Subtly was not, and in all likelihood never would be, Keres’ forte. After a moment she realised that being covert about it wasn't going to work and shot the Aeri another embarrassed grin. Well there was no harm in asking. "Ah don' got mud or anythin' on me do ah?" she asked, shaking her tails to rid them of the water that was trapped between them.

Shore laughed again, she was obviously a bit thick, but that was okay, it was much more fun that way, and it was only banter, besides. At least she wouldn't be kicking him in the side and racing off anytime soon.
"We all have our bouts of clumsiness. It keeps us sane." He was still grinning, watching her frantically search for whatever it was that made her so strange.
"Don't be alarmed by my goofy grin," he said, adjusting himself slightly. "I require it to keep my unthreatening and quite squishy appearance." He looked her over, but couldn't find anything, not that he expected to find something in the first place.
"No, you don't strike me as the dirty type," Shore reasoned, and trotted over the river to get himself something to drink.
"How exactly did you fall in the river?" he asked, his curiousity unable to be contained.

Keres shrugged internally; that was fair enough. He was a big guy, heck he was an Aeri so that was a given. Not wanting to be scary was fine in her book; not something she usually went for but not something she strove to avoid, either. The Reya mare smiled and followed the stallion over as she realised that despite just having been soaked in the stuff she hadn't had enough water today.
She wasn't quite sure what the guy meant by 'don't seem like the dirty type' but it didn't seem insulting so there was no point probing it further. The clumsiness statement however, she agreed with wholeheartedly.
"Yea; we all fall over ourselves once in a while," Keres nodded as she dipped her head to drink. "Ah was racin' ma'self," she explained once she had taken a brief gulp from the river. "Concentratin' so hard on the horizon an' goin' fast ah managed not t' see the bank comin'. Kind of a big oversight, hu?" she concluded with a grin, embarrassment slowly giving way to amusement at her own silliness.

Shore almost choked on his water.
Racing herself? That had to be the oddest habit he had ever heard. Running for the fun of it, to train to beat your greatest enemy or whatever great journey you are going on, yes, but racing yourself?
"I think I'd get dissheartened losing all the time," he told her. Or winning all the time. Sometimes you just needed to lose a few good things to keep yourself content. Otherwise you turn into . . . a prune. Yes, that was the word.
"A nap in the sun is always good being wet." It seemed like an innocent enough statement.

Keres grinned and gave an equine shrug with one ear. "Ah like it; tryin' t' beat what ah did last time an' all. It's good t' know that y' gettin' faster but ah prefer racing other people t' ma'self ah think; more of a challenge and a lot more friendly." The pink-maned mare sipped at the water again before raising her head to look at the sky.
The sun was shining and, somewhat odd though the stallion's comment had been, Keres had to admit that a doze sounded good. "Umm... Yea. Maybe ah'll find ma'self somewhere t' rest f' a bit," the black-coated Reya said with a bob of her head. Was there a good-looking spot nearby... well not really. Everywhere look as though it would be alright but nothing jumped out at her. "Humm... might have to wander off a bit t' find somewhere real nice though," the well-muscled mare stated as she finished her inspection of their immediate surroundings.

Well, she wasn't going to race him. He only ran if it was absolutely necessary. Today was not one of those times. He preferred to win his battles through words. Running came only when he had to flee from some crazy Nequus looking for his blood. Which happened rather frequently, oddly enough.
"I didn't realize a nap was such a drawn out process." Of course, he would lie down pretty much anywhere as long as it was suitably warm. Heck, he didn't have a specific home anyway, he lived in a spot other Nequus welcomed him to stay at. Kind of like a permanent hotel.
Goodness knew he could have a much nicer place if he so desired. He just didn't.
"Let's find it together, then," he said, and wiggled beside her to get ready to follow.

Keres grinned at the predominantly purple stallion and nodded her head. "Alright; that sounds good t' me. ah guess ah'm just kinda picky about the kinda places ah like t' rest. Ah like there t' be something like trees, bushes or a hill close by me. Maybe instinct left from growin' up a bit closer than most t' the Ice Mountains ah guess; wantin' there t' be a bit of shelter from wind. Got pretty chilly around there, ‘specially in winter."
Not that there was too much wind in D'ob, the mare considered as she set off at an easy walk. Well, instincts were instincts; common sense didn’t have all that much to do with them on the whole from what she could tell. "So, y' been around D'ob much before then, Shore?" the Reya quizzed with a friendly smile. It would be interesting to find out more about this odd, nice seeming stranger. Perhaps he'd even become a new friend.

Shore laughed. "Me too."
He'd never been anywhere particularily chilly, or maybe with all this fat he really hadn't noticed. It didn't make any difference to him. He was successful in life, and a mediator.
"Hm. .. " he pondered for a moment. Had he been around here, sure, but much, not really. He tended to stick to the shoreline, hence his name. They'd shout 'SHORE' when they came in from their travels over the crashin waves, and he'd come to their rescue. It was really all very romantic.
"No, actually. You'll have to show me around."

Keres bobbed her head in assent. "Sure thing; ah like showin' people the places ah like, y' know? Makes them even better if lots of people know about them an' can use them." Though this did occasionally lead to a spot she happened to want already being occupied, she still liked to do it. It had seldom been an issue in any case; most Nequus were willing to share the little hideaways with her if she happened along. If they weren't quite so cooperative there were always other places to go or, if she really wanted to rest in that particular area, a small show of horn was usually enough to move the predominately peaceful valley dwellers on.
"Ah think we'll go t' this little patch of trees ah know," the muscular Reya said after a moment's thought. "It's nice 'n shady there, keeps the wind off an' the rain too when that comes." Decision made, Keres changed her course slightly so that she was now heading for the copse, which nestled near the top of a small rise not far off, that she had just spoken of.

Sometimes he agreed with her, and sometimes he didn't. Her first comment was a little bit of each.
"I understand completely." He had no idea what the hell she meant.
A little path of trees, hmm? He could go for that, especially when the wind in D'ob picked up to a far less than desirable condition. It never did much more than felling a few trees near Casa, but it was miserable when coupled with torrenting rain.
He was not, however, too terribly fond of walking. Oh sure, he'd do it, but sitting and lazing was a far better passtime. It seemed as though he'd have plenty of time to sit and laze once he got there. So, perhaps, it was a fair enough trade.
"Lead the way," he said, despite the fact she'd already headed towards it.

“It’s not far,” the Reya told her companion with a smile, “that’s it just up ahead there,” she added with a nod to a patch of trees up ahead; at the pace they were going they ought to reach the spot in a minute or two. She rather liked this guy, Keres considered with a glance to the Aeri walking beside her. He was... cuddly, and though she knew right off that he was far, far smarter than she was he wasn’t nasty about it like some were. It might be nice to hang about with him whilst she enjoyed her new freedom. It felt like so long since she’d just been able to do whatever she fancied, even if that did end up with her dropping into a river in her enthusiasm on occasion.
“Where d’y’ come form then Shore?” Keres asked after a few moments as she recalled his statement that he hadn’t been in D’ob all that much until now. It would be interesting to find out where he’d lived until now; she didn’t think she’d seen many Nequus as well fed as he was before, save for those that lived right around the humans and found gifts of food piled on them day in and day out.

He wrinkled is nose when he squinted to look at the trees.
"It looks perfect," he noted, a broad grin on his face. There was something about D'ob that he liked, strangely enough. He normally preferred places where something towered all around him, yet this openess was not as unnerving as he first considered it to be.
His brain paused to consider her question, though his feet continued to move. "Mostly along the ocean edge," he said. "Hmm," he added along with a chuckle. "I come from the shore." It was a rather corny joke, but amusing none the less. Many would roll their eyes and scoff at him, but he knew they thought it was funny, too.
He didn't normally wish to pry into others lives, but she did seem to be wishing to start a conversation, so he picked from a list of questions. "Have you lived here all your life?" It could easily have been answered yes or no, with no need to explain the details unless she wished. Not quite enroaching, but an invitation to discuss.
