Over the past 6 weeks or so I think, I've noticed a star in the sky that hadn't been there previously. Since it's nearly the same color as, but also about twice as bright as Venus, I have no idea what it is. When I first say it it was in the western skys... maybe about 6-10 degrees to the right of orion's belt. Now it is almost north. It han't gotten any brighter or dimmer, but I still don't recognize it. Any help?

huh... I'm not sure. It could be another planet. I know there's been a bunch of them up lately. If you see it moving alot relative to the stars each night then a planet woudl be a good explaination for it. Not sure which one. Go check a start chart for the month and see if there's anything around where you're seeing this object. My guess would be a planet. Probably Jup or Sat.

It could be a satellite, since Venus is the second brightest object in the sky after the Moon.
