Does anyone find it wierd that American Otaku tend to ascociate pocky with anime? The Japanese Otaku don't do that. Does anyone have an idea as to why this is?

I don't find it weird. It's called a stereotype. Check wikipedia, and urban dictionary, they both give definitions of Otakus being people obsessed with anime. The U.S. and Japan are different places so of course otakus will be different in different regions of the world. If you sign onto any forum involving anime you'll find a lot of people from the U.S. who are all OMG ANIME!!!! POCKY!!! It's just the way things are. Just like the idea that otakus also smelly funky, I've run into a few, but I know that it isn't true for the entire population. We have threads already that discuss being an otaku and what not. Please use those threads to discuss this topic.

its because pocky is japanese and they(non otakus) think that every thing japanese makes people an otaku and only people who are interested in japan are exposed to pocky and get addicted to it. its true isnt it

I think it's because the Japanese things all go together in one category for us Americans. I bet the Japanese think that cheeseburgers and the american flag go together.

I think because pocky's rise in availability probably rose in accordance to anime's, and they are sometimes sold in the same places! It is a matter of convenience (maybe). eek
Also ... I-I like pocky.... So I guess I support a stereotype.... stressed
