Alright, we know it's coming. With Future Sight out next week, Block constructed can finally take off. So far the decks of choice are White Weenie or Anti-WW, GR beatdown, and UR control. All colors are represented, but things are still going to get heavily shaken by Future Sight.

Any predictions? Anyone think they've got the deck to beat? Or even know what it might turn out to be?

I'm currently considering a U/R/b beatdown/sligh deck using Mystical Teachings to allow me to carry 1 or 2 maindeck copies of utility removal, and allow me to carry a higher percentage of efficient creatures. I'm especially looking forward to some of the mid-range and low-end beats I've seen coming from Future Sight.

One thing that I'm debating is a good draw engine for the deck. I don't want to rely too heavily on MT, as only a few of the creatures I want to use have flash. With as many one or two-of cards as I intend to have, Candles of Leng might be workable.

I'll post a decklist sometime in the next few days, after I get Future Sight into Magic Workstation.

What about G/B beatdown?

Use the Uktabi Drakes, Groundbreakers, Timbermares, supported by Damnations, maybe some Pit Keepers, or some sort of card that feeds off of graveyard critters (Lhurgoyf would be ideal, but isn't legal).

It's a possibility I'll consider. One problem is that without a Mortivore-style creature, damnation in a beatdown deck is just bad news. Timbermare swings freely anyway, though it leaves you open just as badly. I've considered G/R beatdown using a variety of hasted creatures, primal forcemage, and the mother of all disruption, Barbed Shocker.

The problem, as I see it, is that G/R doesn't have a lot of good anti-control cards, and that's what the pros will play, 5/8 times or so. Control and combo just appeal more to the spike mindset. Aside from the LD aspect of things (and Detritivore makes a very convincing statement for anti-control), G/R has no real disruption to hamstring a control deck.

G/B gets Extirpate, but lacks significant discard to make it function. G/B/U might be better, giving us Riptide Pilferer, Whistful Thinking, and such, as well as Blue's 'removal' in the form of Pongify, Ovinize, Serendib Sorceror, and others.

I never was a big fan of block, as its always been too limited to me. Well, that and no one else really plays block around here.

If I were to play block though, I'd probably play some really awful MBC build. With like Damnation, discardy kinda stuff, Korlash, Phyrexian Totem, Sudden Death, Tendrils Of Corruption.

Maybe Stronghold Overseer just cause I wouldn't be able to think of any other cool finishers in block. Sengir Nosferatu perhaps? IDK.

I never really did anything blocky other then Kamigawa, wich was totally hot.

I'm looking at block because it's going to be the qualifier for PT Valencia. I've got an idea for a R/B control deck (I know it sounds strange!), as well as something based off G, but that one's less clear in my mind.

R/B Control

Land (26)
10 Swamp
12 Mountain
4 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth

Creatures ( cool
4 Yixilid Jailer
4 Barbed Shocker

Artifacts (4)
4 Phyrexian Totem

Spells (22)
4 Extirpate
2 Damnation
4 Dash Hopes
4 Browbeat
4 Dead//Gone
4 Rough//Tumble

Sideboard (15)
2 Damnation
2 Detritivore
3 Plague Sliver
4 Serrated Arrows
4 Sulfur Elemental

The combination of Barbed Shocker and Extirpate is just... sickening. Combine that with various ways to ensure that BS gets through, and you have a wealth of ways to cripple any deck, especially combo decks.

Browbeat and Dash hopes work well together, as they shift from early game damage to late game draw/control.

Yixilid Jailer is around to shut down Flashback/Dralnu, as well as things I probably haven't thought of.

Eventually, you'll want to swing for lethal damage with the Totems, but not before ensuring that they won't be costing you permenants!
