We have one, but I haven't been to it in a long time (can't stand most of the people in it). Sadly, I'm not very good at suggestions. sweatdrop

^^What dont you like about the people in it?
Anyway, we have one and I'm an officer in it. mrgreen
Create events that would work well for your school. Perhaps even a workshop or something to show what being gay is about, that it's nothing to be afraid of, that sort of thing.
Doing stuff like Day of Silence, Coming Out Day, or other nationally recognized LGBT events is always good. Handing out rainbow ribbons for people to wear and show support is a great way of creating solidarity and an alliance.

Beautifully Intended ^^What dont you like about the people in it?
They're all pretty much self-absorbed in their own personal, immature dramas and always have been. I can't stand most of them outside of GSA just for the people they are, and some of them can be very, very frustrating and close-minded people. They're the kind of individuals who think they can get what they want by being a huge pain in the butt; and that isn't what a GSA should be about. It annoys me.

I'm in one . . . in a college so that's pretty different. We have a lot of bake sales and raised enough money to get us all tickets to Pridefest a few years ago. We have been talking about a drag extravaganza forever. We've done Day of Silence stuff and Coming Out Day and Election Day stuff a LOT.
And then there is all the drama and gossip . . .

Sounds very similar to my LGBT society at uni, I used to love it, but it's just too much work trying to break into their little group, they're all really good friends, and I just don't fit in, we're aquantences at most.

My high school has a GSA,but the members are so preoccupied with lunch and flirting with everything that passes them, they foget about the meetings. We changed our president 3 times this past year. Now that all the senior members have graduated, I am the only one who attends actual meetings. I'm president next year.
We planned field trips to the Nike factory, rallies, our state capitol... find events you can attend involving your gsa.
Participate in the day of silence. We always make posters, t-shirts, and have signs explaining the day of silence.

We have a pretty good gsa at my school - in the past few years, we did a lot of discussions. Our faculty sponsors are really good, and they always send out interesting articles they find. This past year we did a lot of activity things - we planned events for Transgender Day of Remembrance, Ally Week, Day of Silence, and we had an alum who's into civil rights law come in and have an assembly where we also had a student panel.
...It was kinda too much to handle, but those three events are really good to pinpoint and talk to your school about.

MediaclCunt Nah. I got to Catholic school. I can't. You could still make one. There's a law that says that schools have no right to veto a GSA, and must have one if a group of people want one. I go to a college that's affiliated with a Catholic denomination, and we have one. So, if you've got some friends who would want to be involved, go ahead and put it together! mrgreen

It kind of upsets me a bit. Yay for closemindedness!

^^^Well, technically the Catholic church DOES condemn homosexuality, so it is seen as a rarity when a Catholic does actually want to join a GSA, and not for the reason to convert people.
You can hardly blame us for being condemned openly by the Church and then be distrustful at first of Catholics who want to help us.

I don't have one at my school. Me and my best friend were trying to start one but we can't find anyone on the staff to support us and we really don't know how to approach and faculty without offending them or putting us in an awkward position. But!! I've looked at the GLSEN website and they suggest and Icebreaker game to get everyone warmed up and ready to discuss what needs to be openly.
