The sun was high in the summer sky above the park of Naotakahau. Spectators walked by the parks main attraction, the nearly mile long memorial dedicated to the city of Naotakahau's heroes. People crowded around a few imperticular, one was of a man with spiked hair and carrying a large bladed sword almost the size of himself. Another statue the masses crowded around was of a taller man with a necklace of a lion, and a scar across his forehead. At the end of the long series of statues and plaques was another figure, though not a statue, but of a younger man pretending to be a statue. The man was dressed in a cloak with his face covered; a young woman walked up to the man and after looking in at his face sighed,
"Shinji... How many times do we have to tell you, you're no hero." She then said quietly to the man with a giggle, "You get so scared of goblins that you piss your pants." At this comment the man threw off his hood, his face was so red his ice blue eyes started to look light purple, the platinum blonde hair began to look orange at the base. He replied,
"Zhera!" Then in a whisper, "Keep it down will ya? That goblin popped out of nowhere and you know it." Zhera giggled more,
"Come on Shinji, let's go home already, you can play hero later."
"I told you, I don't "play" hero... I AM a hero!" As Shinji yelled this all the people in earshot away turned to look. He looked at them, he could see some people pointing and laughing, some were whispering to each other and chuckling. Shinji pulled up his hood again and muttered, "Let's go then..."
Shinji and Zhera walked through the city of Naotakahau, Shinji stopped at a mural on a wall. The mural depicted six of the legendary heroes locked in battle with the four great evils with an evil shadow watching over the fight.
"You always stop at this mural Shinji. Sure it's cool and all, but why this one?" Zhera asked.
" I don't know, I guess... I guess it's a perfect depiction of the struggle of good and evil... What you would expect from our heroes, no matter how many evils they defeat... There's always a stronger one lurking in the shadows." Shinji replied. They continued on towards their home, when they arrived Shinji went to his room. His room was lined with weapons and paintings of the heroes; there was a gunblade above his bed. He sat down on his bed and thought about what happened at the park earlier, everyone staring, laughing at him. He could see all their faces, hear their laughter, the images were swirling around in his mind. He saw himself standing in the middle of all the people mocking him, they wouldn't stop. He tried to speak but nothing came out, he tried to yell, but nothing... The images continued, flying around in his head faster and faster until... it all stopped... it all went black; he heard a ring, his cellphone. His room came back to him slowly, his phone rang again and he picked it up,
"Hello?" a man's voice answered,
"I heard you this afternoon Shinji, you said you were a hero didn't you?"
"Who's this?" Shinji asked confused,
"Do you honestly think you are a hero Shinji?"
"Of course I do, I am! Why won't anyone believe me..."
"I believe you Shinji. Co-"
"You do!?"
"Yes Shinji, come to the park and I'll help you prove it to everyone in Naotakahau." Shinji looked at his clock... 8:30?
"Alright...Where?"
"Where you proclaimed yourself a hero..."

Shinji stood there listening to the dial tone stunned, he thought to himself, 'how is this man going to help me... No matter, I will prove to everyone that I'm a hero.' He hung up his phone, stood up and grabbed his cloak. Shinji opened his door quietly, he snuck past the living room, Zhera and his mother were sitting down; his mother was asleep in the chair and Zhera was listening to music, her headphones covering her ears. Shinji snuck out the door and took the elevator down to the main lobby. He walked out and waved to the security guard who asked,
"Where ya headed Shinji?"
"Mom asked me to grab some things for her homemade ramen for supper."
"Sounds delicious see ya later Shinji." Shinji walked out the doors to the apartment. He sighed as he left and wiped his brow as he headed towards the park. He walked past the mural he stopped at earlier and stopped again because he noticed something... The shadow seemed to be missing, though it could just be the dark, the city hasn't put up a light here yet. He continued on and walked through the gates of the park. He stopped at the place he was embarrassed earlier by his sister and looked around, half expecting someone, one of his friends, to jump out from behind a statue in a goblin costume. He heard footsteps from behind him; he turned to see a man in a black cloak step into the light of a streetlight. Shinji and this mystery man were now on either end of the circle of light cast by the streetlight.
"You actually came" The man said. Shinji replied,
"Of course, you said you could help me prove that I'm a hero."
"Most definitely Shinji," the man started laughing, a deep malevolent laugh, "Just watch" The man sunk to the floor and disappeared into a shadow on the ground. The shadow darted below Shinji and hands of shadow came up from the ground and grabbed hold of his legs.
"What the hell?!" Shinji yelled as he was dragged into the shadow on the floor.
