Dawn was just a faint greying of the horizon when Kijuvo roused himself out of slumber. There was a faint breeze, fresh off the sea and chilly; the juvenile shivered and climbed to his paws. Birds called softly to each other, their cries seemingly mournful to the young male, overcoming the calming effect of waves on sand. The water itself was still a deep, dark grey-blue shade, and overhead the stars were masked by a thick overhanging of clouds. Hopefully they were merely the normal shoreline clouds, and weren't heavy with rain that would slow him down later.

Well, slow -them- down.

Kijuvo yawned and shook out his small developing mane. Deep blood red eyes searched the landscape for a familair neon form. Maybe he was awake too early. Well, he could wait... and say goodbye. He took a deep breath, savoring the salty essence of shore life. He wondered idly if the pain in his heart would ever fade. He longed for the sea like it was something he had already lost.

Juke had spoken of so many interesting creatures and sights beyond this sea pride, but even his curiousity couldn't completely quell the ache in his heart. For the most part, the sea was all he remembered... Maybe someday he would return. But for now, he needed to protect his mother! He would be strong for her.

"Mama?" He called softly, his voice muffled in the gloom. "Are you there?"

Leboya loomed over her children's sleeping forms for a few moments after she'd woken up, moving to leave the den only once she'd seen that her eldest was stirring, purring and nuzzling the top of his head before she took her place to stand out in the pre-morning air, taking a deep breath. No matter how many times she breathed it in, she loved it.

It was only when the sweet voice of her young one called for her, did Leboya turned to look back inside at Kijuvo, smiling a bit. He was so precious, just like his brother and sisters. All four of them. It was amazing she'd handled herself so well with all of them sometimes.

"I'm here, sweetheart." she called back, though it was quiet to keep from waking the other three, whom seemed to still be sleeping. I don't know how long I'll still be here, though... How could she have convinced herself to leave?

And who would take care of her little ones if she could not take them all with her?

She was a horrible mother.

If Kijuvo could have heard his mother's thoughts, he would have been appalled. 'Bad mother' would never be associated with Leboya in -his- mind. As his mother's voice reached him from the opening he stretched and stumbled out into the cool morning air.

"Whacha doing thi- thoOOO -" A yawn stretched his jaws and he gave up talking for the moment. When it had passed, he blinked up at his mother's tall form and smiled. "What're you doing, Mama?"

It was so early! Normally he waited till the sun got up at least, especially since he liked staying up late into the evening with the stars. His eyes scanned the horizon and he took a deep breath. The air was so new, so refreshing! He loved it here.

He wiggled purple toes in the soft earth and purred, snuggling up to his mother.
