M'kay, This one line from "Welcome to the Black Parade" has pissed me off ever since it came out.
Welcome to the Black Parade

He said 'Will you defeat them,

your demons, and all the non-believers,

the plans that they have made?'

I mean, I luff MCR and all, but I find that line offensive because I am atheistic...

Discuss:
Am I being too sensitive?
Any other lines that confuse and/or insult you?

Well they encourage all complete cooperation,
Send you roses when they think you need to smile.

I don't find it offensive at all.
I find it a little inspiring.

I can't control myself because I don't know how,
And they love me for it honestly, I'll be here for a while.

The thing to keep in mind is that My Chem is all about metaphors. Gee is non-christian, although I don't know if he's strictly an aetheist, so I imagine that line is not necissarliy referring to religeous non-beleivers.

Also, putting the lines in context with the concept album, this is the Patient's father speaking, a father who has unrealistic expectations of his son. It's not Gerard talking to the fans.

Soyeah. That line bugged me a little too when I first heard it, but after you analyze it it's not really very offensive.

I always thought he meant the demons that were inside him, and "the non-believers" were the people who didn't believe in him.

Likewise, I always interpreted it as the people who didn't believe in him or, "you", if you think Gee is speaking to the crowd like he does in a bunch of other songs... he could be saying "will you, person in crowd suffering from s**t at home or blah blah blah, overcome your personal demons and prove to the people who don't think you'll amount to anything that you can, in fact, make something impressive of yourself".

I agree with pretty much all the posts above.

But if you wanna look at it religiously, think of the MCR church, and the 'non-believers' being non-fans. xD

I doubt it has anything to do with religion
but even if it did he has complete freedom of speech

I don't think it's religious, either... It occurred to me that it could be taken that way, but...

Believers in you, or themselves... something along those lines?

I mean, most of MCR's songs would pretty much offend anyone who took religion seriously. Especially off of Revenge and Bullets. It never even occurred to me to think of the word "non-believer" in that context.

Bah... I'm kind of beating a dead horse though, everyone's basically said the same thing so far. :/

My dear, I think your being a wee bit too sensitive. I was raised and still am an atheist, always have been always will be. And I really cannot see how you have linked that to religion.

Non-believer- he dosn't mean atheist, as Frank is an atheist. Also its people who doubted you, every person who ever said that they couldn't.

Nothing in any song annoys me...
You gotta look at it in the poetic or storytelling context in which it was origionally written...

Your demons and non-believers. Not a religon's, yours. Like all the people who don't believe in you, all the demons who work against you. A demon isn't always a godly figure, it can just mean, a bad person.
Also you have the freedom of religon, that doesn't mean your free from dealing with everyone else's religons.
