Ok... after watching this episode I was, of course, plagued with thoughts on what really happened... after reading 23 pages of threads on tv.com... here is my theory to the time travel bit....
So we're dealing with TWO time travelers here... thus, two different time "events". One from Future!Hiro and one from Present!Hiro, yet they both share one common timeline. When Hiro teleports to Future!Hiro's timeline he gets the same Future!Hiro that went back in time to 'Save the cheerleader'... So the future timeline has changed.... but Future!Hiro hasn't... Still with me on this?
Future!Hiro is just going with the flow, assuming things have changed but his memories of them haven't... ("Did he do it? Did Peter save her?") His work on the 'string' theory remains the same because it was Future!Hiro who cataloged them.. Everything related to Future!Hiro is the same except for his surroundings... Thus, in this timeline, Sylar probably didn't cross paths with Hiro the day after the election.. because it was Peter all along..
I've read other hypotheses slightly similar to this.. the main part being that "time" can be linear to one specific person and not to his surroundings... all else is left to interpretation by the individual.
As for Peter's scar, it was said a few times that the "Heroes" powers don't work around the Haitian. I'm assuming that he got the scar during one of the many "battles" he was in while the Haitian was around. Maybe he was held against his will for a time and not able to regenerate until it left said scar.
So other than all the confusion, this was just an amazing episode. Sylar... kudos... He is one of my favorite villains of all time. LOVED the battle at the end.... Ice!Sylar vs Fire!Peter... too great.. Absolute brilliance throughout.

Well for starters the Episode isn't called String Theory. It is called Five Years Gone. They named the newest comic String Theory, and renamed the episode Five YEars Gone before airing it.
The Proof is in the Link <3 It was a great episode, I am a sucker for alternate time lines and realities. I love how differently everything turned out. The hardships of this future are brutal and make the Heroes fight to prevent the explosion, so much more important.

This is, all exaggeration aside, probably one of, if not THE, BEST episode. Ever. I miss Peter's emo haircut, but I love how he's totally kick-a**. I miss Jessica- she's so much cooler than Niki. I'm sad about Ando- I don't really like him, but I feel bad for poor Hiro. And I wish we could have seen the fight between Peter and Sylar. We probably will though, in a future episode.
Those things aside, I loved this episode. I think I might even download it to my ipod.

Definately prefer this episode's ending to 19's cliffhanger(imo). What I find interesting will be how killing Sylar would do anything to Future-Hiro's map, since it wasn't Sylar who exploded. Did Sylar cause it in some way then? Mendez did say that he drew how to kill Slyar and to stop the bomb, so they must be related somehow, even if they're not the one and the same as Nathan lied....
I really like how we get to see the 'humanity' of Future-Hiro and to finally understand his motives for caring to reverse the 'bomb' as personal. As for Peter's scar.. it looks like it came from a blade-slash - perhaps Hiro had to hit him in order to get him to stop blowing things up? or some such other result from the explosion?
and then, of course, the picture which both Mendez and Sylar painted in ep 19 makes sense now...

pigs-fly surprised I just remembered, is Linderman still alive? Because then he can heal all this... Linderman can only heal living things not yet dead. and it was theorized that he was standing at the memorial with "Nathan" - so that implies that he's still alive. However, why would he want to heal it? He's the one that planned the continuing of the bomb. and what are you entailing in 'all'? also, since Sylar-Nathan can fly... I think it's pretty obvious that Sylar killed him and took his capability of flight... sorry if it seems like I'm harping - I just enjoy talking with people about it... ^^;

*shrugs* idk what i'm talking about xp yea, i guess you're right about him probably not wanting to heal anything...but I don't think Linderman intended on Sylar taking over as president?
