Well, I don't know if this is true or not, but it is kind of freaky:
Today my friend came up to me and said that the Maya's predicted on December 23, 2012, Venus is going to break from its orbit and crash into the Earth.....*spoiler for Phantom Planet* Isn't that just like in Phantom Planet? It's freaking me out, its not a Disateroid, but it still is freaky. If this is true, I wish there were ghosts to make the Earth intangible, that would be totally cool! blaugh In an odd sort of way... sweatdrop *end spoiler* And the Maya's were right about the lunar and solar eclipses, only a few seconds off...

You mean the Mayans? They predicted that? Um... okay... I doubt that they did. Venus isn't going to break from its orbit unless it blows up or something... And even then, chances are that the pieces would gravitate towards the sun, or still remain in orbit.

~Yeah, Venus won't break out of it's orbit without some kind of large external force to move it, and it would be unlikely to hit earth anyway. Where did you hear this? Sounds like an interesting type of thing, true or no.

I heard about 2012, but I didn't knew Venus would break from it's orbit... Well, we'll just wait and see if anything happens. The world has been predicted to end before and nothing really happened back then.

Yeah, it would be cool. I heard something about 2012, but never anything about Venus. Acutally when I heard of it, I brushed it off. It's hard to believe that the Earth would just get destroyed while I'm alive.

And all we have to do to save ourselves, is to somehow get all the little ghosties to turn us intangible and then Venus will go right through us^^

i think i would have to believe the other sceptics here...there's no way Venus would break out of obrit. there's no reason that it should either.

I thought I'd point out that it's believed that the exact day is also the Winter Solstace. Is it possible that they stopped their calendar there because they considered the solstace to be the last day of their year, and 2012 just happened to be the year they stopped?
And anyways, is this going by the Julian Calendar, or the Gregorian?

I rather doubt that Venus will really just randomly break out of orbit and head down a crash course to Earth. But if there are outside forces, then...who knows?
