Unforgettable Rain by Urmi Vaghela
One day they are sitting on a damp bench in the nearest park. His arm is around her making her feel worry free, and secure. She lays her head on his shoulder as they watch the little ducklings follow their mother into the pond in front of them. Her arms wrap around him, and silence has risen along with the whisper of a cool breeze. But only through silence can their words pass through each other like a flood of emotions. The sun dies down and they depart only thinking of their next meeting the following day.
But she turns to reality, the waking truth of that “following day” which never came. She sits next to her window remembering the times she had with her beloved before he was taken over by greed and selfishness. The emotions she never saw coming, took him away. It starts to rain. As the rain drops fall from the sky, so do her feelings from her heart. A tear starts to trickle down her cheek from the thoughts of her lover. She continues to think about the times they shared, with every drop that fell to the ground, so did her memories. Shattered, unfixable. “I love you.” She turns her head to the sound of his voice. But nothing is there. She yearns for his warmth, and security. She thinks to herself, “why did this happen now, after all this time?” She buries her face into her knees, crying endlessly into the death of their love, not knowing what destiny will bring the next day.
As she sleeps, she dreams of the memories they had together. She can’t get them out of her head. Waking up every two hours to the nauseous feeling of guilt, worry, and madness. She finally sits up in her bed, looking out the window only seeing the rapid speed of the rain hitting the fragile ground. “WHY?!?!” She screams, awakening the silence of the night. Falling back down to the comfort of her bed, crying and hugging herself in fetal form. The night ends with her falling back asleep peacefully.
It’s the next morning and its still raining “what perfect weather” she sighs and moves on with her life. She remembers what everyone keeps on repeating “don’t take him back, he isn’t worth it. “ Throbbing pain starts to form in her head but it doesn’t bother her much. As she thinks of the words, she can’t believe them. She knows in her heart how true their love was and still is. Even if it might be gone, she won’t ever regret, or forget it. Her heart says to keep holding on, while her mind tells her to forget about it. The day goes on and he is the only thing on her mind. She tries hard not to miss him, but the thought of being beside him flashes by. She falls to the floor in pain. She sits there while humanity moves rapidly past her. The headache was too strong for her to take. No one is there to help her; she has to find the strength to pull herself up, like she has done all her life. She gets up with all her strength and wipes her tears away. “Come on, you can get through this, it’s just one more obstacle to face.” She walks to her sanctuary, as the disgusting world passes by her.
She reaches her sanctuary and sits next to her favorite tree that is now soaked with the brilliant amount of rain drops flowing through it. She lays there catching her breath and gaining a hold of herself. She looks straight ahead of her into the blank forest. She sees nothing but the sun giving off a spectacular ray of light that wraps around the forest. She closes her eyes for a few minutes but is disturbed at the moving darkness coming towards her. She opens her eyes to the sight of a manly figure. She sits up slowly to see who that figure is. Coming closer and closer her eyes widen to the sight. She feels the warmth of her beloved’s arms wrap her tightly. “I love you.” She hears the words come out of his mouth so poetically, the one that she envisioned before. “I love you too.” She wraps her arms around him gaining strength to stand up. “I won’t ever leave you again, I promise,” he says whispering in her ear. They listen to each others heartbeats in the silence of the forest. Back together, they go on with their lives never losing their love for each other.
